I gave up on owning a car after I realized that every time I brought it in for one thing, I'd get a call that there was also something else wrong that would bring the total up to about twice what they'd quoted.

I figured they looked for stuff, and if there wasn't anything wrong, they messed it up or made it up.

Haven't owned a car since...hmm....1984, I think?

Doin' just fine, thanks...

You have to find an honest and competent mechanic. They are rare. As soon as you find one, be super super nice to them. An honest and competent auto mechanic can save you thousands of dollars over the lifetime of your car--tens of thousands if you take all your cars to them.

True. My brother is a mechanic, but he's been kind of a butthead lately, so I'm going to the place we know down the road.

The closest grocery store is out of my favorite brand of tea.  Yes, I know of two other stores that have it, but they are farther away and I'd prefer the one I can walk to.

Also, the same store is out of Lady Jane the cat's favorite brand, style, and flavor of canned cat food.  Yes, there are other flavors and the dry kibble, but she really only likes pate style Friskies that includes some sort of fish.  Our other two cats will eat anything we put in front of them.  So, having one rather picky cat seems to be quite a first world problem!

I've had this once in my life.

That said, I've had pretty good luck with dealership mechanics for our Ford.

Actually reading posts before responding to them seems to be a problem for a number of people on here...

Also, I'm assuming that everyone's seen this, but in case you haven't...

March Madness!  Great!  Wonderful!  Pituitary glans gone amok on the court!  What could be better!

But why did it have to obliterate two episodes of Wheel of Fortune!?!?
Come, fill the Cup, and in the fire of Spring
Your Winter-garment of Repentance fling:
The Bird of Time has but a little way
To flutter--and the Bird is on the Wing.

I once saw a primary care doctor who thought I drank too much, so I quit. I never saw that guy again. (cymbal crash)

Actually true, but I found another doctor because I moved, and I did cut down on drinking, taking the advice to heart. But the first gentleman, who was an addiction specialist, was a very dark skinned guy, born and raised in some part of Africa (I forget where), and studied in the US. I once asked him about alcoholism rates in his native land. He said 'practically zero. Nobody has any money.'

I made a cake this weekend. It was fine, but it's enormous (9x13" sheet pan for two people, good grief, I should have halved the recipe the way I originally planned), and I don't think we can eat it all before (a) we get sick of it, or (b) it goes stale. I don't know if the icing will freeze well, or I'd have frozen half of it already. What to do?
It should be ok, just freeze it in separate pieces (easier to pack into the icebox if yours is as packed as mine is--another 1st world problem...). I'd wrap well with clingy plastic wrap--just remember to remove that, and put it in a closed paper bag before you microwave it briefly to defrost...so the cake will not go dry. (yet another 1st world complaint).

I am inspired. Cake is now in the freezer. I'll report back in a month.

I used up all of the store-bought honey, so one morning I had to open a jar of locally produced honey to make my parfait. The problem is that my wife wanted to give the local honey to my mom as a gift, so now we have to go back to the local honeymaker to buy more. To add to this, the locally produced honey is very thick and so not ideal for mixing with yogurt. So I had to eat a sub-par parfait and now have an extra errand to run.

A parfait that's not up to par does sound pretty bad.

Thunderstorms this afternoon. Lightning struck close enough that it zapped our cable, internet, phone, some light bulbs (LED), and my UPS. Thankfully my PC survived.

Is "sub-par parfait" an oxymoron?

Can you even call an imperfect parfait a parfait?

I believe the correct terms are "imparfait" or "moins que parfait", depending on whether you were eating it or you had already finished it before determining that it was sub-par.

I was out of feta for my avocado toast and had to substitute a sliced hard boiled egg (I know, I know-- it is called the first world problems thread).

I hired somebody to mow my yard (Which I've only done once before).  They only mowed the front half of it.  I really thought the deal was to take care of the whole thing?

My landscaper crashed into the flagpole in my front yard using a riding mower.  Now the flagpole is leaning 45 degrees.  It has been that way for almost a month now.
