Our IT Department refuses to service or support VHS. Their compromise was that they would digitize anything that we brought to them.

In practice, they almost never bother; it's faster and cheaper to buy digital copies, in almost all cases. In the rare event that the material is really not available in a digital format (instructor-shot footage, for instance), they will spend the recording-time+15 minutes to make copies.
