When we go out, I usually get cream.  But my wife stopped putting cream in her tea and coffee at home, so I stopped as well.  At home I drink it black...but I wonder if it is better with cream...

Lots of Splenda and non-dairy French vanilla coffee creamer. Thank goodness there are options for those of us with dietary restrictions!

2 creams, no sugar.  OR a splash of one of those fancy schmancy salted caramel creamers I now see in the stores.

I've come to realize Starbucks is not really in the coffee business.  They sell mostly milk.  They just flavor it with coffee.

I've been using creamy oat milk.

I never acquired the taste for it.

I have very recently fallen off the wagon and resumed the partaking of Dr Pepper, usually diet, sometimes not, (over Spring Break) but I had been, and will return to being caffeine free (as soon as I finish the stash I bought).

Before that, I had been making and drinking decaf tea

Usually with a touch of milk, no sugar, sometimes mixing in cocoa or cinnamon. Summertime I switch to making cold brew and have that iced with no milk.

Black with sugar.

Why not in the poll? Vote[r] suppression! :-)

I drink my coffee black at home, as I'm aiming for a caffeine fix in the morning, not additional calories. But on the rare occasions we go to Starbucks, I order a mocha with whipped cream, and I'm fully aware that I'm ordering dessert.

There's also the question of how you brew your coffee. I recently read that unfiltered coffee has more of the oils in it that can be bad for cholesterol levels. So I got put my French press away and got a single cup drip that uses filters.

I wish the coffee industry would sponsor more research on this though, because I do like using a French press.

Since coffee has zero calories, and oil has 9 calories per gram, I wouldn't think that (1) there would be enough oil to make much difference; and (2) a typical home coffee filter would allow any oil molecules to slip right through.

The caffeine might be more of an issue for cholesterol, and a french press or filter don't affect that.

So, press away!

In other coffee news, a friend of mine swears by  this gizmo.  (https://aeropress.com/)

Here is the $300 version (https://flairespresso.com/product/pro-2/) if you're posh.

Sometime in the 1990's a psychiatrist told me 'don't consume anything with caffeine in it.' Perhaps some time before I'm dead I'll try her advice.

I have had used one of those. It is good for a quick and strong single cup. It is also good for disposing of the used coffee grounds.

Regarding the coffee oils: it is not the quantity of oil but that they contain diterpenes.

I put in a packet of Splenda or comparable name and add flavored cream to finish.
I get mine self-service at various gas stations or Dunkin Donuts.

We need another category in the poll: none of the above, or other.

I drink my coffee strong, fresh, hot, and always sitting down. I get the coffee from one particular store and use a mix that I select.  No flavored coffee for me.

Tea only for me.

I used to add honey or sugar, and cream or milk, but both of those categories* do not exist in my diet anymore, and I've both lost weight and felt better ever since.

I have several cups of tea a day, usually go through a large hot-water-heater-full of the water every couple hours while writing, reading, or teaching.

My mom and dad both drank coffee to extremes, and I just never liked the smell or acquired the taste for it.

M.

*Exception; a tiny bit of honey to sweeten my cocoa in the AM, since I make it straight from unsweetened cocoa powder, and in a couple of dishes that would be too acidic without it, but otherwise...can't figure out why I didn't do this sooner.

Mostly black, but I have an oat milk that's quite tasty as well. When I add it, it's a splash.

I only drink cold brewed coffee to cut down on the acidity, so it's generally quite tasty either way.

I used to drink my milk with a little coffee, so to speak. Then 20 years ago, I did Atkins. Black coffee was free, everything else was regulated. So now I drink it black at home. Usually need cream at places like Starbucks though to cut the bitter, burnt taste.

For decades I drank it black.  Just this year I chanced to have on hand (for something else) some heavy cream and said, "What's it like with cream?"  And, you know, it's really good!

Once in every third blue moon I'll get a vanilla latte at QT.  Other than that, it's unsweetened iced tea, brewed at home in the Mr. Coffee tea machine--all day, all year.

I grew up in WA, so am required to be a coffee snob. Good, strong coffee with a little half and half. In the summer, I make my own cold brew concentrate and add quite a bit of milk to that.

Good Trader Joe's coffee ground in an expensive-but-worth-it grinder with cup 1/4 full 2% milk. Good black too.

Thanks, EPW.

As I had mentioned up-thread, I drink my coffee strong. I also add half and half. Long ago, a friend who happens to be a physician suggested trying half and half because of my inability to digest milk. No more distress and no extra calories because you're adding just half of the dairy that you used to add in the past.

As for tea, I use tea leaves and boiling water. As with the coffee, the tea is drunk fresh, and while sitting down.

Not really related to the topic, but....

How does this thread have 27 replies and 33 votes?????

Puzzled--is that even mathematically possible?

Or...

No sugar, a bit of milk, somewhat strong. I didn't use to be a coffee person, but coffee is Serious Business in the family now - my wife grew up very close to a prime coffee-growing region so, yeah.

I like my coffee pretty strong and will put just a wee bit of non-dairy creamer in it if it's too bitter. I have a friend who gives me, on special occasions like my birthday, 100% Kona coffee and I drink that without adding anything because it's yummy. Never been one for flavored coffee but sometimes use flavored creamers instead of plain.

I'm a tea drinker, but I'll drink coffee when I travel.  I'd rather drink OK coffee than bad tea.
Why?
Because I'm a very picky tea drinker.  I want the water to be boiling hot, not taste of stale coffee carafe, and come in a properly large mug.  And I want milk, not cream, not half and half, not soy.  Regular plain milk.  And plain black tea.
If I know I'll be somewhere for a while I bring my own mug, tea, and kettle.  And buy milk.

I saw an ad yesterday (not for the first time) for Crio Bru (https://criobru.com/), which is cacao prepared to be like coffee. I'm intrigued. On the one hand, I like dark chocolate. On the other hand, I once had an extra-dark chocolate bar, and it tasted like dirt. Anyone ever tried it?
