I have been out of town. I visited Florida last week (to see my parents) and I believe that I filled up for $2.53 a gallon.
I have returned to my home area and I filled up for $2.19.
What are you paying for gasoline these days?
It was $2.26 when I went to Costco earlier today. Other stations are $2.45 and up.
I filled up Tuesday when I got home from my trip (at $2.19), and then on my way to work yesterday saw gas drop to $2.10!
We're at $2.75/gallon here.
prices are up a quarter. I had to fill up today and the cheapest I could find was $2.35. Not too long ago the price was closer to $2.10.
What are you seeing for gas prices near July 4?
Does the potential/future storm in the gulf already factor into my local fuel price?
Prices went up a dime! now 2.45
I am driving to the airport in another (cheaper) city about 150 miles away shortly, and I needed to top off to get there.
I wonder what prices are in Florida? Im sure that Ill post after I get there!
What are prices in your area?
Visiting my parents.
$2.45 in rural south Florida.
Has Barry bumped up prices in your area?
BARRY !! You Bastard!!
I think it was Hurricane Barry, anyway. Prices today were $2.69 That is up a bit in less than 48 hours!!
Western PA (north and south, having been in both the last 2 days) $2.99/gal.
$3.30 for regular, here on the west coast
FLORIDA Fuel Price 'scam'? $4.58!! (and premium was over $5 a US Gallon!)
I was near the Orlando Airport yesterday looking for gas to fill up the rental car. I missed a turn by one block and ended up pulling into something called Sun "something". There were half a dozen people fueling up, and I was about to put gas in the tank and I saw the price. At first I thought it was a mistake on the pump, but I noticed the sign in front and it was well over $4 a gallon!
I got out of there fast and made my way one more block further down to a WaWa (dont know how you spell it as we dont have them in my part of the country). There the gas was 'only' $2.78 or so.
Why would ANYONE pay almost twice as much for a gallon of gas only one block further down?
Anyone ever hear of stations such as that... Sun "something?"
Have you ever seen a similar thing near the airport rental car returns?
Clean, was it ethanol-free, perhaps? That adds quite a bit to the price - but I don't think nearly $2. I'll pay more attention next time I see one.
In other news, the $0.25 increase due to Barry has mostly subsided.
I dont know if it was ethanol free or not, and I m not near there to check! In my local area, ethanol free adds some, but not nearly double the price of the 10% ethanol blend.
I checked - it only adds about 50 cents here. It might well have been due to the location + taking advantage of tourists who are short on time & don't know the area well.
We were travelling in Europe, which was fun, plus all the prices for things are in made-up numbers! So in Norway I bought gas for something like 15 kroner a liter, which was made all the easier by the fact I wasn't doing the conversion in my head.
The reason I wasn't doing the conversion is that I knew that was about US$6.20 a gallon or -- more frighteningly for me, since I spend Canadian dollars -- CDN$9.00 a gallon.
$2.50 when I filled up at Costco mid-week. Other gas stations are charging $2.53 and up around town.
$2.37 at the local Costco this morning.
One wonders whether tariffs on trade with China will affect these prices as well.

When you consider that the pumps, hoses and other supporting products were probably made in China, not to mention the minimart having to make up some profit margin on lower sales of Chinese made/ingredient items in the store, and general inflation caused by higher prices on all consumer goods putting pressure on higher wages...
Yes, Chinese tariffs probably will affect these prices.
$3.79 yesterday, after having gone down a bit over the last couple of weeks.
$1.50 this week after applying all the discounts for shopping at the affiliated grocery store.
Lowest I've recently seen was $2.13. I filled up at $2.19 yesterday, after seeing that some places had abruptly jumped to $2.39 - perhaps because of the drone attacks in Saudi?
similar price action here now. A few days ago it was $2.12. Then it slipped up to $2.19. Today it Jumped to $2.39!
and NOW i need to fill up!
$2.19-$2.24, up a bit, but not ridiculous.
I filled up on Sunday for $2.15. Today, 2 days later, and it is up to $2.29.
What happened?
What is happening in your neighborhood?
$2.17, though I paid $2.10--standard discount card anyone can get.
$4.09 to $4.19, here.
I paid $1.49/gal last week after applying the fuel points from the related grocery store.
I was in San Antonio yesterday and filled up for $2.02 a mile or so from the airport!
When I arrived home, the first price I saw near my local airport was $2.24. Closer to home I have seen as low as $2.12, but most are between those two prices.
What is it looking like in your neighborhood?
I paid $2.26 today in Texas, but I went to the expensive place because I'm avoiding traffic near Walmart, Target, and the outlet malls this month.
$2.24 when I filled up at Costco earlier this evening. Other nearby stations are charging $2.35 and up.
$2.24 yesterday afternoon at the our local station. Other places in town were $2.28 - 2.40.
$2.18/gallon at Costco three days ago.
$2.07 today.
$2.14 this morning.
prices are dropping the last few days. I see $2.09 near my house. Im not sure how much lower it is because I havent been out and about much.
What are you seeing?
$2.16 yesterday evening.
About $300 for a cord of mixed hardwood.
2.15 In rural mid-Atlantic/South
$3.25

Full cord or face cord?
$2.18 when I filled up at Costco yesterday evening. Other stations are charging $2.21 and up.
I filled up tonight for $1.99!!
First Sub$2 gas in a while!!
You?
Now that i filled up, the price at the station closest to my house has dropped to $1.95!
im seeing $1.94 now! I will need to fill up soon. What are you seeing now?
If I'm performing all the conversions correctly (and I wish I wasn't), then today's gas is at $4.78/gal, up from $4.18 last week.
What a difference a day makes! Yesterday gas was $1.94 near my house and today it is $2.09 at all of the stations with that brand! Fortunately, today i was below a 1/4 tank and filled up at a different branded station for $1.99.
Have you seen a marked increase or decrease in the last few days?
And for you wood burners, with winter past its first month (almost) is the price of wood going down or up?
Gas dropped to $2.07 at Costco halfway through the month. Now it's $2.24. Other gas stations are in the $2.30 and up range.
Gas back down to $1.99!! And Just In time! I needed to fill up! (and I did!)
Is your price falling too?
Of course! I filled up yesterday and today gas is down 7 cents more!
CNBC reported that the Russians and OPEC are in discussions to control the price, but that they may not get a deal and oil COULD be in the $30s tomorrow ! That would be good for oil consumers, not so good for the oil industry here in the US, though.
So are you in an area that would be helped or hurt by dropping oil prices?
I would wait to fill up for a few days if you can. Oil just dropped to $32 per barrel.
Heard in 1973/4, first oil crisis: I always fill for $15, so a price change doesn't affect me. :-)
Many stores are showing $1.91 today, but I think that I saw $1.78 today!
Oil prices below $35 a barrel!
What are you seeing in your neighborhood lately?
$1.80
Unbelievable.
Yesterday it was $1.97 & 9/10.
Filled at Costco for $2.05 on Thursday evening. Today I saw $1.98 while driving past the local Sam's Club. Other nearby gas stations are $2.05 and up.
I filled up for $1.89 per gallon today. I saw prices from $1.89 to $2.09 for regular unleaded.
Gas was $1.98 & 9/10, but I got a 20 cent per gallon discount with my Kroger card. Yay!
$1.64 in major city 80 miles away, where I came through the other day. $1.79 here.
Yesterday local stations had gas prices at $1.91 or $1.92. Today, the place I usually fill up is at $1.85! I can't remember the last time I saw prices that low. Not to be that person, but certain "rewards" apps will cut another .05 off whatever price, FWIW.
One-sixty-something at our local Costco.

So are you in an area that would be helped or hurt by dropping oil prices?
Hurt. Most of our state budget relies on gas and oil income.
I filled up this week at $1.66/gal after all my frequent shopper points were applied.
I saw $1.78 near my house today. Each vehicle has 3/4 of a tank, so no need to top off yet. I should easily have 300 miles between the two, and there is really not many places to go!
$1.69 at Costco and Sam's Club today. Nearby stations are $1.75 and up
Paid $1.61 today
We're down to $3.24, which is amazing.
In USD, $2.97/gal.
I haven't seen it this low in decades. (Not that I'm surprised, given the price of a barrel--frankly, it seems to me it should be even cheaper!)
$1.56 a gallon here--much lower than across the river in Work State, where it's usually at least 10, sometimes 20 cents a gallon cheaper. Happily, I haven't had to drive to work since March 10, but it's still nice to see gas prices so low.
In Cleveland, we had stations selling as low as 0.69 cents; others were at 0.89 cents and 0.99 cents. Overall, in the general Cleveland area, they seem to be ranging from around $1.15 to $1.60.
I certainly have not been out much. On Thursday and Friday, I did have to venture out. It looks like gas is in the $1.65 neighborhood.
Is is too soon to see price drops after the oil price issues?
In USD, ~$2.40/gal. I haven't seen it so low since I was tween, and it should be about ten to twenty cents a litre more expensive here than outside the city.
$1.49 per gallon yesterday for unleaded gasohol. Now this is like something out of a dystopian novel. With cheap fuel and a strong dollar it is a great time to take a trip except for the fact we can't go anywhere.
I ventured out today and took some of the animals on a car ride. Gas by the pricier Kroger was at $1.72/gallon.
I filled up today at $1.66.
It was my first fill up in six weeks! (today is May 1, and my last fill up was March 16).
My gas mileage fell, though. I guess that Im evaporating more from my 20 year old car than usual, or Im not going on long enough trips. My mileage fell to 14.5 MPG or so when it is usually over 17 mpg.
Gas price has stayed at $1.69 at Costco.
steady at $1.66 for 2 weeks!
With all of the drama about oil prices over these last 2 weeks, I m surprised that the gasoline price is so stable in my neighborhood.
From what I hear, I guess, the drama seems to be in egg prices.
Back up to $1.99 here, from its low of $1.31.
Filled up at $1.89 at Costco today. Other gas stations are $1.99 and up.
$1.62/gallon for regular
up at least a dime since I last noticed. Closest to my house it is now $1.79.
By comparison, a bargain price! As I am not driving much, I still have more than 1/2 a tank, so all is good!
Have you noticed any price increases in your neighborhood?
$1.97 at Costco now. $2.09 and up at the other stations. If you're filling up and get the car wash, there's a discount.
$1.74/ gal.
I filled up this week at $0.92/gal (after my frequent shopper points were applied).
Filled up at $2.05 at Costco midweek.
A dollah ninedy-nine at Costco.

I've been in and out of the Atlanta airport where I think the only reason for a similar price difference is because everyone misses the first turn, has to get off at the next turn to get gas and return their rental on time (because they're more worried at that point about making their next connection) and can't afford to comparison shop because, time.
Some places have all the angles figured.
M.
I filled up my car today (1.99 a gallon).
It has been almost 2 months to the day since I filled it up!
Not a lot of driving in the lockdown!!
How much driving are you doing these days?
What are gas prices in your neighborhood?
I don't do a lot of driving on a day-to-day basis in normal times, since I commute to work on foot and run many errands by bicycle. Oddly enough I've done a little bit of extra driving as a result of the plague. All banking now has to be done by drive-through window. I can't bicycle through the drive-through. So I have to drive downtown every time I make a deposit.
I normally take longer drives every few weeks to go to bookstores, attend professional meetings, visit family, etc. Since mid-March I've done less of this than normal. I think I've driven out of the county four times in the last four months. But these have all been to destinations that were hours away, so I have racked up some hundreds of miles.
Gas is a bit under $2 a gallon locally now.
We used not to be allowed to walk or cycle through the outdoor bank lines but they lifted that in March to be able to close the indoors "walk-up" teller stations.
The banks are still closed, so I think that's still the case.
M.
It's been in the $2.2x range for the past month or so. I had to take ALHS to a dr. appointment in St. Louis today and filled up downtown for $1.79/gallon; all the other places we passed in the city were $1.99.
Still holding at $2.05 at Costco and Sam's Club. It's $2.25 and up at other stations.
Now it's $1.99 at Costco. Others are $2.17 and up.
2 storms will be in the refinery areas of TX and LA this week. Perhaps it is time to top off the tanks and note the current prices of gas and the prices next week!
Filled up the car today. It took over 15 gallons, but it has been over six weeks to drive the 214 miles!
MY mpg is terrible now. I suspect that part of the problem is that I am spening more time in drive in lanes or even when I order ahead, it takes time for them to bring my supplies to the car, so the car is sitting idle for much longer than in the past.
We're back to what we were when all this started: ~4.38/gallon, if I'm converting correctly. That's here; it's about $3.52 in town.

Our mpg tanked too, because now that we're always home, the only places the car ever goes are up steep hills (most notably the driveway).
Today's price was $1.86... I neglected to add that for 9/2/2020
$1.96 at Costco when I filled up on Wednesday. It's $2.19 and up at other stations.
$1.79/gallon in downtown StL on Tuesday, though it was around $1.90 in other parts of the city.
I guess that the hurricane this weekend has caused some issues. Gas prices are back up to about $1.95, when just last week they were below $1.78 at a few places.
What are you seeing in your area?
$1.95 at Costco and Sam's Club. $2.25 and up at the other gas stations
$1.49 this morning.
$2:15 is the going rate.
$2.15 here too. It costs more just a few miles away.
It's been a few since the last post.
$1.89 at Sam's Club and Costco. $2.15 and up at nearby gas stations.
It looks like unleaded gas is about $1.88 a gallon near my house. It may be cheaper, but I dont get out far enough to look!
What are YOU seeing in your neighborhood?
$2.13 this morning. $2.09 at the gas station across the street, which was surprising because the prices at both these stations are usually the same.
I paid $0.99/gallon last week after the frequent shopper discount.
$1.99 at Sam's Club and Costco. $2.35 and up at other nearby gas stations.
$2.04 at Costco when we went yesterday.
I have never used Costco gas station, but is it a good quality gas? I get my gas from Shell only and it is $2.XX! just curious.
Thanks,

travelling to my parents' house in Florida. Gas is more than home town. I think that i paid $1.99 this morning near Jacksonville, Fl.
I think that it was 2.13 yesterday closer to Pensacola.
Filled up at $2.09 at Costco earlier today. (Sam's Club has the same price) Still holding at $2.35 at other gas stations.
Local price seems to be about $1.89.
What about your price??
Up to $2.47 in these parts. Ouch.
Holding at $2.09 at Costco and Sam's Club. Other gas stations are $2.33 and up.
It's jumped twenty cents a gallon in just the last couple of weeks. $2.29

Prices went up from $2.09 about 10 days before Christmas to $2.13 a few days later, and are now around $2.39. I thought they would go down after the New Year, but apparently not.
$2.04/gal. for regular.
prices are up !
Recently gas was abundant as low 1.79, and now $2.09 is most common.

$2.14 at Costco and Sam's Club. $2.49 and up at nearby stations.
$2.49 today. Just a month ago, it was $2.09.
$2.22 at Costco and Sam's Club. $2.43 and up elsewhere
$2.12 near my house, but $2.01 closer to work! Ill need gas soon, so I ll be sure to make sure I dont run out closer to home, but closer to work!

[interthreaduality alert] As one result of the rising gasoline prices, I'm looking into getting a new bicycle for my upcoming birthday--one with fenders, lights, racks, and bags for those grocery store trips between early spring and late fall.

Well, in my hole in the forest, at Sam's club, it was $2.38 for regular unleaded a couple of days ago. As I pulled up to to the pumps a black fellow of like station, automotively speaking, was proximate, just beginning to "gas up". He looked at me in a manner of woe that gave his opinion of recent price increases. My verbal reply was, "NOW LOOK WHAT Y'ALL HAVE DONE!". For a moment there I thought I had angered him. But then he smiled. I was relieved. To quote actor, singer, comedian, and more, of the 20th century, Phil Harris, "That's What I Like About About The South"!!!

My local prices seem to be either $2.59 and 2.69. Unfortunately, I will need to gas up soon!
I saw somewhere that the refinery areas are looking to rent ships to store the products until the pipeline reopens.
What prices are you seeing? Are you seeing empty stations yet?
$2.97 at Sam's Club, $3.09 everywhere else.

Then the price wasn't high enough.
I filled up this morning at 2.69. The vehicle computer said I had 37 more miles to go. The radio had just reported that 1 in 4 stations in SC is out of gas now. I am not in SC, and actually, I m closer to the start of the pipeline, rather than the end, but prices are still increasing and with only 37 miles worth of gas in the truck, (and my car at the repair shop until At Least Friday - and it doesnt have a lot of gas either!), I figured I d better get gas while I could.
The good news is that while I didnt have much gas this morning, In the Days of Covid, a tank seems to go a month or more! So it is just poor timing that I needed gas now.
Are you seeing long lines and stations running out in your area?
$2.99 9/10. Up from $2.79 9/10 just a few weeks ago.
Couldn't they just round it to $3.00?

If you're a gasbuddy.com user, there's a special fuel tracker availability banner on the homepage. I'm good on gas so don't need to fill up yet. Two of my coworkers went to the Exxon station on the corner and didn't do so well.
Update: Colonial Pipelines has resumed operations so gas delivery trucks will be making their rounds.
Thanks to the magic of social media, the panic buying has spread even into our state and neighborhood--which are far, far from the affected pipeline. I spoke to somebody at church yesterday evening who was reluctant to drive to Dallas today for fear of being unable to find enough fuel on the road.
Got gas at Costco earlier today--it was $2.75. There were signs on the pumps saying no more than 2 gas containers to fill. Elsewhere it's $2.99 and up.

Costco and Sam's Club still holding at $2.75. Now $2.95 and up at the other stations.
$3.09 around here. Our state just raised its gas tax with the possibility of another increase before long.
Saturday I spent just over three dollars on a gallon of gas for my lawnmower. That was the premium-octane stuff that I don't normally get for the car.

$2.99 for regular over the weekend up in Lake George - Adirondacks area.

$2.99 for regular over the weekend up in Lake George - Adirondacks area.
$2.99 on Sunday, but $3.04 yesterday. We must have gotten gas at the same place.
$2.99 this morning, on my way to do some errands. $3.07 at the same gas station, on my way back.
Saw $3.25 on my way to work this morning.
Filled up at $2.78 at Costco midweek. Today I went back--it's now $2.82. Other stations are $2.99 and up.
How are prices in your area nowadays?
$3.13 on the billboard, but $3.19 at the pump (cash price $3.09).
$3.10
Filled up at $2.76 at Costco yesterday. (Same price at Sam's Club) Others are $2.83 and up.
prices seem to be in the $2.85 neighborhood.
$2.87 at Costco and Sam's Club. $2.99 and up at other stations
On a recent summer road trip, the most expensive gas was $4/gallon.
$2.71 at the station close to the house. It has been about that around town, at least that is about what I remember seeing yesterday on my drive to the office.
$3.35 at all the local stations, think I saw it at $3.20 at Sam's Club earlier in the week - will probably go there when I next need to fill up. It's been a long time since it's been under $3 here.

Now $2.85 at Costco and Sam's Club. $2.95 and up at the other stations.
$2.78 at Costco and Sam's Club. $2.85 and up at the rest.
running errands yesterday provided a range of prices from $2.72 to $2.80.
I went to Sams, but didnt think to look at the pump price as I have 1/2 a tank of gas still.
However, now that I am back to campus regularly, my days of going 6 weeks between fill ups are likely over!!
$3.13. I have seen it as low as $3.06 a few suburbs over.
$2.88 yesterday.
$2.97 and $3.03 at two nearby locations.
Filled up at $2.74 at Costco (Same for Sam's Club) $2.79 and up at the other stations.
News indicates that several refineries went offline with IDA and gas may go up. Today it is hitting. Recently it was $2.62, but today's low at one store on the way to work was$2.64, but most were at least $2.86 so a 24 cent jump!
Filled up at $2.79 at Costco on the way home earlier tonight--same price at Sam's Club. Other stations are $2.89 and up.
$2.84 when I filled up at Costco on my way to the library. (Same price at Sam's Club) The others are $2.88 and up
I went to Costco earlier today--now $2.82. Same goes for Sam's Club. Elsewhere it's $2.99 and up.
$2.92 when I filled up at Costco before going to the library. (Ditto Sam's Club) $3.19 and up at other stations.
CDN$1.42/liter = US$4.28/gallon.
It is back up to $2.88 in the neighborhood.
I have been so busy with online classes that I have lost track of what may be going on in the world to cause the price increases again.
Just shot from $3.09 to $3.24 in my town.
saw $2.99 by my house this morning!!
was still in the $2.87 area closer to work... Will they catch up soon?
Have you breached $3 yet? Anyone over $4?
Some ah-hole a few blocks away is upcharging regular unleaded for $3.49.
Everybody else in the area is selling for $3.19.

I'd filled up at $2.96 at Costco over the weekend.
$3.44 at Sam's Club yesterday, $3.65 pretty much everywhere else.
$3.18 to $3.30 near me
I filled up $3.11 at Costco today. (Sam's has the same price) Other stations are $3.35 and up.
My neighborhood station has breached $3 a gallon, with a $3.03 price. Other stations closer to work (at least yesterday) were still as low as $2.95.
Another day, another 6 cents! I had to drive to the allergy doctor's office today and noticed that the prices are up again! It is now $3.09 at most places, though I think that I passed one that was still below $3, at least so far!
Are your prices jumping as quickly as are mine?
The Virginia part of the the DC Metro area is at an average of $3.35 per gallon. That's about a 10% increase from a month ago and an over 60% increase from a year ago.

Great against global warming! :-)
$3.15 at Costco and Sam's Club now. I'd filled up at $3.11 last night. Nearby gas stations remain $3.35 and up.
We haven't seen anything under 3.29 for weeks and3.35 is low in grab-it-while-you-can territory.

Filled up at $3.14 when I went to Costco this evening. (Sam's Club has the same price) $3.29 and up at the others.
Prices have been steady at around $3.49/99 or above on almost all the gas stations here in my neck of the woods and also along the long road trip last week.
looks like $2.79 to $2.81 between home and work.
Better than when I last filled up!
Filled up at $3.05 at Costco this afternoon. (Same price at Sam's Club) No change at the other stations.
Now $2.99 at Costco and Sam's Club. No change at the other stations.
Seems like everyone decided to pile in at Costco's gas hut when I filled up this morning.
Holding steady at $3.43/99 since Thanksgiving, but dropped to $3.42/99 on Friday. Still at $3.42/99--woohoo!
Down to $3.29
$2.71 with today's fillup.
It has been almost a month since my last fill up!
Leaving for a 20 plus hour road trip to see my parents! Car should be ready to go! new oil (only 2700 miles on htat oil, but it should have been changed in 9/2020!! I guess that COVID kept my mileage way below normal
been out of town for a few weeks. Drove through a few states on the way and the way back. Prices varied a lot.
When I returned my local station is down to 2.61.
How did Christmas treat your gas prices?
$3.04 at Costco and Sam's Club. $3.19 and up at the other stations.
I'd filled up at $2.99 at Costco yesterday!
Im glad you posted. I keep forgetting to update the situation here. We are again back to the $3 neighborhood. I think that there are a few that are still at $2.97 and most are $2.99, but so far anyway, I have not seen any prices over 3, but I have not been out much.
It was under $2.70 just 3 weeks ago!
$3.02 when I went to Costco this afternoon. It's $3.25 and up at the others.
On my way to work yesterday I could see I was going to need gas. The prices were what they had been.... about 2.97 to 2.99. On the way home I noted that prices were higher at 3.09!
I was able to fill up at 2.97 at one of the stores that had yet to raise its price.
So Get Ready!
$3.12 at Costco (and Sam's Club) when I filled up today. $3.29 and up at other stations.
$5.42/gallon, USD.
Now $3.22 at Sam's Club and Costco. $3.39 and up at the other stations.
$3.26 at Sam's Club and Costco. $3.49 and up at the rest.
prices up again. Im now seeing $3.19 everywhere I have been, though I have not ventured off the regular area.
CDN$1.59 / litre or US$4.73 / gallon. But my relatives in Norway just posted a picture of a gas station there, and they're paying twice as much as that.
And two morons in the US Senate propose a gasoline tax holiday. Lower pump price increases quantity demanded in the US, raising world gasoline price. Instead of US Treasury collecting the tax revenue, OPEC and Russia get more. Wonderful.
Future tax payers will have to make it up. But they don't vote.
And it's bad for the environment and, forsooth, global warming.
But who cares?
$3.31 at Costco and Sam's. $3.59 and up at other stations.
$3.99 at BJs. So that's on the cheap side.
A Prius looks pretty shiny in this environment.
$3.59 at Sam's Club, $3.75 pretty much everywhere else.
Filled up at $3.46 at Costco this afternoon. Others are holding at $3.59 and up. I'm sure that will change again.
I had a surprise today!
Prices had been about $3.19, but a few places on monday were seen to be about $3.12.
Today, it jumped to 3.29
On the world scene, oil has jumped to about 105 a bbl.
Not sure if the local stores are THAT in tune with the oil market!!
$3.80 yesterday.
$3.69 in most places near me

Alas, Russia is a big oil exporter and Ukraine is an oil importer. A high oil price helps Russia and hurts Ukrainian citizens.
The way to hurt Russia is to include her energy exports in the sanctions, raising price further for us, the buyers, but allowing Russia less revenue from oil sales because they would be allowed to sell a lower quantity. This has not been done. Imports of energy from Russia have not been restricted.
What bugs me about Western policy is that the words sound nice, weapons are donated, but please, do not ask us to sacrifice by getting cold in winter or hot in summer. Seems we are for freedom so long as we are comfortable.
Just Monday it jumped to $3.29 and Today!! I am seeing several stations at 3.45!.... That is almost 30cents in less than 4 days!
Filled up at $3.80 during my Costco run today. (Same price at Sam's Club) Quite a jump from earlier this week! $3.99 and up at other stations.

There is political chat about banning imports of Russian oil to the US. Depending on how other countries deal with Russian oil, if effected, that would mean a small or larger further price increase for gasoline here.
Hell, it's good for the environment!
It went up to $4.29 yesterday; last week it was $3.55.
In less than 10 days we have gone from $3.12 or so to $3.79 on the way to work today!!

I suspect cynics are taking advantage of the rumor mill to raise prices even before an oil/gas embargo has been approved--which may not happen (despite the unusual convergence of bipartisan opinion between those from oil-competing states and those with more ethical concerns in mind...), if Biden doesn't agree.
I also heard an interesting comment on a newscast, which was new to me (probably well-known to others). The late John McCain was said to have claimed that Russia was just "a gas station masquerading as a country."
Perhaps I shouldn't comment, though, since I last owned a car in 1984.

Well, US is banning imports of Russian fuels. Given the quantities involved, the EU promise to cut imports of Russian fuel by 2/3 this year, almost credible, is the bigger deal.
I think this matters.
[On the other hand, think of the US not
selling oil to Japan and its consequence and compare it to the West not
buying oil from Russia and its possible consequences. No, I don't think they will be similar.]
I got it today for $4.199/gal. which includes a 10 cent/gal. discount. I drove past a bunch of $4.299/gal. and one $4.599/gal., which stood out from the rest.

$3.99 9/10! Up 80 Cents in less than 10 days!
I fueled up Monday at $3.99 a gallon. I pass the same gas station daily on my way to work. Tuesday it was $4.19, and Wednesday it was $4.39. So a jump of 20 cents each day.
I'm wondering how long until someone in power suggests that the oil companies might reduce their profit margins right now.
Didn't Biden just do that (or as much as say so) in the "No profit-gouging" part of his speech the other day?

$4.36 was the least expensive, cash or credit.
Exxon Mobil, where I usually get gas, was charging $4.25 for cash, higher for credit.
I have several long road trips coming up, so it's going to be an expensive series of trips.
We can set the price of gasoline anywhere we want. We just won't get the quantity we want at that price or even a higher price.
Here is footage from the 1974 gasoline shortage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOi_ZgPlC1k (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOi_ZgPlC1k) Caused by price controls. Clearly, less gas was produced and delivered and more was desired for consumption. The non-price rationing needed was by length of line! Great for people who put a zero value on their leisure time.
It seems people have to relearn obvious stuff every generation or two.
It's not like the last time the barrel price was this high the pump price was, though. There's a disconnect in there. It's driven by more than just supply issues.

There is no reason to expect any constant relationship between crude and pump prices. There is no reason for any of us to care.
Going with Biden & Warren, if it's not supply, and if it's not demand, it would be greed. The oil companies could have gotten more greedy. Or it's more phlogiston in the atmosphere.

You leave speculation out of your equation. Oil prices are not just supply and demand, they also factor in perceived risk and predictions. I don't think the current issues have much to do with actual supply issues (yet).
As for greed it isn't that oil companies get more greedy. They have always been greedy (this is the underlying principle of capitalism, not just for oil companies), there are just times they can capitalize on a situation.

Since petrol doesn't spoil, it can be stored in the ground for a long time. In such a market, expectations of
future price co-determine
current supply and demand. Everybody expects Russian oil to disappear from western markets. Hence, expected future price rises. This induces current suppliers to keep more petrol in the ground. That drives up current price.
That's what speculation does -- it smooths the hit over time. We should write thank you notes to speculators. :-)
It has broken four dollars a gallon here in recent days, and people are very much up in arms. Nothing much they can do, except pay up and try to economize. Which many could do better if they didn't insist on driving vehicles large enough to pull a log truck out of a ditch. Granted, some local folks actually DO have to pull log trucks out of ditches now and then, but most just seem to want more truck than they honestly need.
Not too worried for myself, since I drive a car that gets 42 miles per gallon on the interstate. I am concerned for people I know who can barely afford fuel in the best of times.
$6.68 USD.

As far as I can tell, production is currently the same today as it was a month ago, prices are not. So they are not "leaving it in the ground". I assume demand is up a bit, which explains part, but not all of the increase. The rest is speculation, and I dont really feel like writing a thank you letter at the moment.

Coincidentally, Prof. James Hamilton, UC San Diego Econ, assembled some data for his own analytical purposes. The first few charts tell the story we are looking for.

I hadn't seen the charts when I made my correct inferences from price and Russia alone. What I missed was that demand is up, too [on account economic activity has picked up from Covid lows].
One can't speculate without either leaving it in the ground or storing final product above ground. Th former is cheaper. The chart about world production shows more stuff is being left in the ground. And remember: Speculation smooths consumption. It is a good thing!
Filled up at $4.09 when I went to Costco on the way home from the library tonight. A drop from the weekend!
$4.19 and up at the other stations.

Ages ago I read an academic article hypothesizing that gasoline price rose quickly in a rising market on account people drove around a lot to find the lowest prices. So, just keep raising prices as the lines get longer! However, in a falling market they drove around less. Shorter lines to see. As a consequence, price fell more slowly.
There's clearly majorly stuff going on about expectations at the moment, but the search story is at first blush plausible and certainly intriguing.

Everybody expects Russian oil to disappear from western markets. Hence, expected future price rises. This induces current suppliers to keep more petrol in the ground. That drives up current price.
That's what speculation does -- it smooths the hit over time. We should write thank you notes to speculators. :-)
The first few charts tell the story we are looking for.
https://econbrowser.com/archives/2022/03/oil-prices-and-inflation (https://econbrowser.com/archives/2022/03/oil-prices-and-inflation)
I stand corrected, the charts I saw didn't down a dip, but this seems like a better source.
I'm sure speculation has its purpose, but it sure dosn't feel like a good thing at the moment.

Gasoline tax suspension means that the savings to the consumer in the form of price reduction will be split with the suppliers. The more price sensitive side of the market pays less of the tax, so it collects less of the savings. I have no clue which side that is, but the consumer won't save the whole tax. It does mean an increase in government debt which has to be serviced in the future. Some of that tax revenue would have come from the oil companies. Now it won't.
Still sounds good, yes? :-)
$3.58 at Costco when I went today. (Ditto for Sam's Club) Other stations are $3.75 and up.
Yesterday, Gov. Hogan announced the gas tax suspension may be necessary:

still floating... now to $3.79
$3.89 yesterday afternoon at the local (mid-NC) Costco.
Yesterday $4.14 at Sam's Club, $4.29 pretty much everywhere else.
$3.55 when I went to Costco earlier today. Sam's Club had the same price. Still $3.75 and up at the others.
it has been 4 days since my last post. down another dime (at some stores! others unchanged) $3.68-3.79 most places.
I got gas on Wednesday for $3.47/gal, but only because I had a 30 cent/gal discount.
IT seems that stations here dont know the price!
Yesterday I saw prices from $3.51 to 3.74! And those 2 prices were 2 blocks apart!
I was down to about a 1/4 of a tank so I filled up at 3.49!!

Filled up at $3.59 yesterday... to the tune of $55!
It was almost 3 weeks since last fill up, but I do have 2 vehicles, though I dont think I have been taking the truck many places. I have driven it to Lowes to pick up garden supplies.
$3.60 at Costco this morning.
$3.50 or $3.60. That's only $3.21 or $3.30 in last year's money! :-) :-(
It was $4.01 at Sam's Club yesterday, nearly everywhere else is $4.19 and has been for a while.

Praise the Lord! Miracles are possible! Rationality strikes!
That gas has got more expensive is a signal -- use less of it! Reducing the gas tax says -- keep using.
That doesn't mean you can't help people. Strangely, in Virginia the Democrats have the better idea.
"Other approaches supported by the Senate, such as the tax rebate check or refundable earned income tax credit, would likely be more effective options in providing relief to our citizens."
This way, one could spend one's extra money on gas, if absolutely necessary, or save on gas and spend it on other things.
$4.09 in my rural town; $3.99 in the usually more expensive station near my campus.
It was $4.16 when I went to Costco earlier today. The other stations are $4.22 and up. If you're paying with cash or rewards member, it's slightly less.
It's bouncing today. I topped off my 1/2 tank at $3.69
On the way to work I also say $3.79, 3.89 and one over $4!
$4.23 when I went to Costco this afternoon. (Sam's Club was the same) $4.39 and up at the other stations.
Did not take long! The current price of gas seems to be $3.99. Only the rare store has $3.89 now!

$4.26 when I filled up at Costco today. (Ditto for Sam's Club) Others are holding at $4.38 and up.
$4.63 and the usual decimals, cash (I think this was the least expensive of the four stations I passed this morning). I've been watching the price go up from $4.18 just ten or so days ago. Should have filled up last week, but I still have half a tank left. It's going to be an expensive summer.
Im now seeing 4.09 to 4.15 in my area now.
4.19 now...
We're $4.69 most places, $4.63 at Sam's Club.
Yesterday, I saw it for $4.09/gal. It probably went up today. :(
USD $6.835/gal yesterday. A new high. I saw a few stations where it was closer to $7.
$4.39 when I went to Costco this afternoon. Other stations are $4.53 and up
$4.66 down the road from my house.
$4.45 when I went to Costco coming home from the library earlier tonight. Other gas stations are holding steady.
I also used the free air pump for my car tires.
Visited my parents. Central Florida was about 4.59 on 5/24/2022.
$4.38 when I went to Costco this afternoon. (Ditto for Sam's Club) $4.47 and up at the other gas stations
filled up today at $4.01
What is your Memorial fuel price?
Fueled up yesterday. Today I am seeing prices as low as 3.99, but most are higher! Many seem to be closer to 4.19, even when they were just 4.07 or so just yesterday!
$4.57
My really old car gets 22 mpg, so my-hour long commute is ridiculously expensive currently.
I saw it for $4.19/gallon, but I had a 20 cent/gallon off reward, so I filled up for $3.99/gallon. That's the cheapest I've seen around here.

I was in disbelief when I saw the prices at the four or five gas stations on my way to the grocery store this morning because the price was almost $5 last week. I haven't been driving much but I kept watching the prices go up and telling myself that I should fill up before the prices went above $5.
It's hard to make meaning out of individual price reports from different times and places with different tax rates, blending rules, and locations. Most important at the moment, we must not confuse the effect of the overall inflation rate on the price off gasoline with a change in the relative price of gasoline.
Adjusted for inflation, the price of gasoline is still lower than it was in February 1981, July 2008, and all through 2011 to 2014.

My forecast for gasoline prices is that they will fluctuate. :-)
About $4.69 a gallon for the regular unleaded.
Ugh - $5.09 for regular unleaded here...good thing I had fuel points, which brought it down to $4.39 a gallon...but, then again, I only had so many fuel points because grocery prices have also been astronomical.

Dont Feed The Dismalist!
Dismalist only posts here to tell us why this information is useless, or that gasbuddy or AAA provide national and regional numbers. Ignore him/her.
Finally, this last post is just wrong, but I wasnt going to point out that many of us post the CHANGES in prices and the direction of change (as a potential warning to GO NOW and fill up or WAIT a day or so... , so while the levels are a function of state taxes, the changes are NOT, but I hope that hu goes to other threads to post there dismal outlook elsewhere!
Maybe this is the new normal?

Gas prices went up in a matter of hours today. The gas station along the main drag (prices are usually higher here because of the location) was selling gas for $4.96 or thereabouts this morning, around 9:30. On my way back around 4 this afternoon, the price had gone up to $5.13. I think the gas prices in the stations closer to home also seem to be higher than they were just a couple of days ago.
Not even a week ago I filled up at $4.01, the next day saw $3.99 around. Now $4.29 seems to be the going rate!
Not sure what they will be in a month for the July 4 weekend!
Maybe the prices will keep people closer to home?
$4.45 at Costco (and Sam's Club) when I filled up yesterday. Others are $4.69 and up
Fueled up this morning for a whopping $4.99
Posted 2 days ago that gas had gone up to $4.29 from $4.01, and today (48 hours later) it is up to $4.49!! I dont remember it being that high in my neighborhood in the 15 or so years I ve lived here!
Any big jumps in your area?
A gallon of gas for my lawn mower cost close to $5 this Saturday. I can probably hold off having to gas up the car for another two weeks. We'll see what it looks like then.

While driving home, I saw it for $4.49/gal. :(
It was $4.79 when I filled up this morning near home, which was a jump of 20 cents from a couple days ago.
Near campus today, I saw gas prices above $5 for the first time at $5.09.
Around $5.10 today, up from $4.71 last week.
Gas prices in NJ are around $5.40, according to yesterday's news on TV; back in the good old days we NYC-ers would fill up whenever we were in NJ because the prices were much lower in that state.
$4.99 this morning, was $4.86 two days ago.
$5.05 in Long Lake, NY (Adirondacks) this morning, $4.97 in the New York Thruway service areas.
$4.69 at Costco and Sam's Club. $4.95 and up around town.
While gas prices are around $5.10 for the lowest grade, diesel prices at the same stations are well above $6.00 which might partly account for the increasing prices of groceries and other staples.
Still barely under $5 when I fueled up here yesterday after church.
Up 30 cents from last week, so it's now at $5.09.
4.99.9 in South Jersey tonight. I could have saved $.04 / gal. had I been willing to drive 5 miles down year road
Filled up at $4.85 at Costco today. $4.89 at the rest unless you're paying cash, rewards member, or getting car wash
$4.69 at Costco filling up today. $4.75 and up around town
Ive been out of town for some time. I spent a week in Florida because my father was admitted to the hospital, and days after returning, we had to go to a conference (on Better Investing... which I recommend) in Dallas.
Upon returning home I was happy to see that gas was only $4.18!
I dont remember what it was before I left, but compared to the prices I saw in Dallas and Central Florida, this is a happy price!
There are some stations in town, though that still show $4.59! SO I hope that this is a remnant of last week and not a foreshadowing of things to come!
$4.59 this morning, down from $4.79 last Friday.
About four and a half dollars for 87 octane as of yesterday.
I was out and about doing an errand that I could not postpone. I saw that gas near me had dropped to $4.05!
When I got near my destination (8 miles away) the price was below $4!! ($3.97)
I will need gas when I am able to get out and about next, so I hope that the trend is moving MY Way!!
Are things improving in your area lately?
Filled up today at $3.86 today!
What are you seeing?
Just came across this article from the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank explaining gasoline prices as they relate to crude oil prices at different times and places. It is very thorough and easy to understand. Situation normal. Well worth reading.
Oil prices fell so why don't pump prices (https://jpt.spe.org/twa/oil-prices-fell-so-why-dont-pump-prices)
I found it somewhat sad that I was excited to see the stations near me drop to $4.60.
$4.35 when I filled up at Costco earlier today. $4.53 and up around town.
$4.09 yesterday at Costco.
Filled up at $4.25 at Costco earlier today. $4.43 and up at the other stations.
$3.99 -$4.04 in central Texas
Today, I ventured out to a curbside delivery and found gas to be $3.75. Much better than earlier! But as I have been Covid positive and isolating at home I have not burned much gas!
Though my area is dealing with very high temps and the local electric company is threatening to black us out if we dont conserve, so Im tempted to fill the gas cans and prep the generator in case i need to power my own, emergency window AC (because i would NOT have been a good pioneer, especially when i m sick!!)

Wow! I paid 4.53 last night here though I could have driven 5 miles for 4.43. 3.75 seems like a dream.
I had to retest for covid (inconclusive result). On the trip home I noted gas prices ranged from $4.09 to as low as $3.59!! (only at one store, though, so that is not a popular price, and may not last long!)
Are prices falling in your area?
Yesterday, I saw regular for $3.99 a gallon, which is the lowest I've seen in awhile.
$4.15 when I went to Costco on the way home. $4.32 and up at the other gas stations.
$3.89
$4.659
On a very recent trip where I stayed for several weeks:
4.19 in one part of the town, nearest to where I was staying
3.99 in another part closer to the busier part of the town
4.50 in another part
All of them within a 10-mile radius, all on the same day.
$3.79 this morning at Costco.
Im now COVID Negative (After 3 weeks of positive results!) and Im now able to get out and do the little tasks that I ve not been able to do! Today I got the car inspected and noted $3.49!! down a dime in 2 days!! 26 cents in less than a week!
I guess that my 3 weeks of lockdown left all of those stations with a big surplus
$4.37 here, down 0.43. Feels like such a deal.
$4.59 in a Boston suburb.

$4.09 at Costco when I filled up earlier today. $4.15 and up around town.
$4.29.9 cash, $4.39.9 credit; didn't feel like going inside for the cash transaction, so used the card.
$3.99 on Thursday, and $3.99 on Saturday. The Thursday fill-up was in an isolated town where gas prices are usually higher, suggesting that there must have been a general increase elsewhere by Saturday.
It's dropping around here. I saw it for $3.69 for regular and got 30 cents off a gallon with my 'rewards' points. Whee......
$4.239 here.
$4.05 when I filled up at Costco on my way home last night. $4.07 and up at nearby stations.
Filled up for $3.36 last night. Most stations are around $3.59 around here...
I was out and about this morning. It looks like $3.24 is getting popular!
Not sure when I will need to fill up as Im not really going anywhere.
Meetings start in about 10 days (bummer) so I will begin driving to campus again soon.
Now $3.89 at Costco. $3.99 and up around town.
$3.45 on Saturday, which was 54 cents down from the previous Saturday. Moving in the desired direction.
$3.17 today! Down from $3.24 a few days ago.
$3.4X at Costco today.
$3.73 when I went to Costco today. It's $3.81 and up around town.
Now $3.69 at Costco and Sam's Club. $3.75 and up at the other stations.
3.08 within the last few days AND 7-11 has a phone ap to track purchases that offeres and 11 cent a gallon discount!
Im almost looking forward to filling up for under $3 a gallon! (but the giddiness will fade when i see the total!)
Something happened! Prices went from $3.08 to 3.19 overnight!
One store still had $3.08 AND as it was a 7-11 they offer 11 cents off a gallon with the ap code.
So i filled up the car (it was about 1/3 of a tank left), came home, and then drove the truck back to fill it up too!
What about you? Have you noticed a recent gas price spike?

I really don't pay much attention to gasoline prices. It's minor for me: retirement and COVID wariness can leave (as today) my car in the drive. If I do drive, it's a small handful of miles to mart, to docs, and to library (for reading trash). No other obligations, and the portfolio stays plump. Well, I do plan to visit a lawyer to revise my will and disinherit some jerks. But this office is not that far away. Do it soon, boy! "And at my back..."
$3.61 at Costco when I filled up today. $3.65 and up at the rest
Yo Yo pricing! 2 days ago it jumpted to $3.19 (from #3.08) and now it is back to $3.08! WHO needed Gas and let them know!?
$3.54 at Costco when I went on my way home from the library. $3.57 and up at the other stations
I SAW IT!!
Have you seen it yet??
I saw it and considered stopping the car and taking a picture!!
Gas for $2.99!!!
Then a mile away at Sams, it was only $2.94!!!
Then I got closer to home and it was back to $3.19. I guess that I have to get out more often and venture further out!
$3.49 when I went to Costco earlier today. $3.53 and up at the rest.
Safe and smooth travels for those are traveling over Labor Day weekend!
$2.99 has reached my neighborhood!
And I think that 7-11 is still offering 11 cents off with the ap.
Im hoping that it stays there or lower by the time I need to fill up again! But I m not down even 1/4 tank on either vehicle!
What is going on in your area now that Labor Day has passed?
$3.29 when I went to Costco today. $3.39 at the other gas stations.
$2.95 today at 7-11 and from that I got an 11 cent discount, bringing it down to $2.84!
Had not bought gas in nearly 3 weeks!
Next week have a trip to a nearby conference, so Ill be getting more gas next week. Maybe 2 tanks worth!
What is gas in your neighborhood?
Also, if you are anywhere on the Gulf of Mexico, you may want to fill your tanks. Could be a storm heading in there next week... cutting offshore production, and maybe refineries. No telling... too early to tell, but keep an eye out for a low price to take advantage of while you might be able!
Now $3.33 when I went to Costco this afternoon. $3.39 and up at the rest around town.
Im now seeing a smattering of $2.84 but most seem to be $2.99 still.

I am disappointed to point out that prices have jumped back up! I saw one day where a station had dropped to $2.85 and then yesterday was back to $3.18!
I guess the OPEC price rise, or maybe Ian reduced some gulf production?

Are your prices below $3 yet?
Nope, today's prices are around $3.29.9.
Prices might start going up again, given the decision by OPEC and Russia to cut production.

$3.43.9 today--should have filled up as soon as I saw the OPEC news.
$3.54 when I went to Costco yesterday. $3.75 and up at the rest.
$3.56 when I went to Costco this afternoon. $3.63 and up at the rest around town
$2.82 was seen at a few stations today!
Unfortunately at the 7-11 that offers 2.92, so Im going to wait another day or so to see if the prices go down to the other stores' level so that I can get a great price!!
$3.37 per gallon of gasoline in the Midwest. Diesel is over $5 per gallon.
prices jumped around a bit.
I went back to 7-11 today and got some lottery tickets to risk ruining my life by being too rich, and filled up using my discount. The station was at $2.88, so after the 11 cent discount I paid $2.77!!
lowest in a while!
Maybe this had some effect...

M.
Now $3.59 at Costco and Sam's Club. The rest are $3.69 and up.
$3.79.9
$3.63 when I went to Costco. Others are $3.75 and up
Between the time I pulled into the gas station and the time I started pumping, the price had jumped to $3.75.9 from $3.68.9. This is the cash price--the pump wouldn't print out my receipt, so I don't recall the credit price.
Almost a month since my last reply. Gas as low as $2.60!! Down 28 cents from a month ago.
Still, with oil prices in the low $70s, seems high, but what do I know?
I paid $3.04/gallon this morning in StL county. (It's $3.59 here in central IL.)
$3.32 when I filled up at Costco this afternoon. $3.36 and up at the rest around town.
Now $3.19 at Costco! Elsewhere, it's $3.29 and up in town.
$2.89 on Thursday in StL county.
$3.09 when I went to Costco earlier today. $3.21 and up around town.
We are running $2.38 now.
I wanted to type that in as I will be heading to Florida for the break and I know that it is higher there, and I want to be able to find the post here next year to see if it has improved when we get back in January.
what are your pre-Christmas prices?
$2.94 when I filled up at Costco on my way to the library this morning. $2.99 and up at the rest in town.
Although it was raining and the parking lot nearly full, I was grateful to pull directly up to the pump and there weren't too many other cars at the gas hut too.
You're likely to see gas prices under $3 over Christmas:

Still expensive here; $3.39.9 credit, and $3.29 cash.
$2.84 in current (Christmas town; helping family move). $2.64 at a couple of stations 2 hours South in parent's home town.
$2.83 when I went to Costco this afternoon. $2.89 and up at the rest.
I'm going back to work at the library tomorrow so I needed to fill up.
Still at $3.65 here
Saw $2.99
Here too. Wish I could remember where as the tank is on E!
Visiting my parents in Florida.
Im seeing $3.02 -3.09 in the neighborhood.
We just got back to Colorado and filled up for $2.35.
$3.05 at Costco when I went this afternoon. Elsewhere in town, it's $3.27 and up.
I had a short work week because of the New Year's weekend.
Filled up $3.19 at Costco earlier today. $3.34 and up elsewhere in town.
Now $3.14 at Costco. $3.19 and up at the others around town.
Kicking myself for not filling up earlier!
After the road trip home from the Big City Airport last weekend, gas was about 2.55 a gallon. I filled up yesterday at $2.89!
Not sure when the refineries change to the Winter Blend, and I dont know if the winter or summer blend is cheaper...
If you believe the internet, then winter blend is cheaper. I don't recall when they switch, but it would have happened already, and in fact happened earlier this year to get a jump on distributing cheaper gas (not sure if that really worked in the long run). There seems to be a strong correlation between gas station posted prices and oil futures, with a delay of a 1 or 2 days.
$2.99 seems to be the popular price now. So the dip below $3 (IF you got to enjoy it with me) may be at an end!
I may have to start a new thread "What do Eggs Cost in your neighborhood?" It was $4.48 a dozen when I went to the store in the last few days!
Everything seems to have jumped in price! (Everything except my pay, anyway!)
On the positive front (because I am a net saver), CD rates at my local credit union jumped to 4.68 (4.75 APY) for a 2 year CD, and I was able to move some money that had matured a few weeks ago that I delayed on committing to a cd at just 3%.
So What is gas (and eggs and CD rates if you like) in your neighborhood these days?
$3.09 over the last day or 2.
As my gas gauge moves backwards from F to E, the price at the pump seems to be detecting the situation and adjusting appropriately (for the station anyway!)
$3.39 when I went to Costco this afternoon. The rest are $3.55 and up.
I saw $3.39 and $3.49 per gallon, for regular, as I drove home from work yesterday. :P
Let's talk about fuel oil. I try to be modest at keeping the house warm. Sweaters, heavy comforters, quick showers (the Navy kind) and yet the bill that came in lately was for a tad less than $1K. I guess "hot under the collar" helps out. But a "sweater" does not actually lead there...

Yikes! I know our natural gas bill was about 50% higher than this time last year, due to rising costs (even though I locked in a rate, still much higher, but better than the variable, market-driven rate).

As my father used to say, "Wear a sweater"!
Wool and heating oil [diesel] are substitutes. [For most of us. The relations are properties of us, not of the goods. I don't mix diesel into my breakfast cereal. Some may, though.]
Substitutes of substitutes are substitutes. Substitutes of complements are complements. Complements of complements are complements.
When I started out graduate study I was a TA, holding discussion sessions and doing all the grading. We're talking very early 1970's. One question on the final exam in Econ 101 was:
The Canadian government is thinking of legalizing marijuana. The beer and wine industries are in favor. The distilled liquor industry is against. Using the concepts of "substitutes" and "complements", explain why this is rational [i.e. self-interested] behavior.
One student wrote: There is nothing better than to have a bottle of Boone's Farm Apple Wine in one hand and a joint in the other.
Naturally, I awarded full credit.
I have been reluctant to reply because the prices seem to be yo yo in
Today it looks like $2.72 to $2.77 seem to be the predominant prices
$3.02 when I went to Costco this afternoon. Other stations are $3.05 and up.
$3.099 here in Metro Philly, down from $3.299 10 days ago.
Topped off my tank today. I was just under 1/2 a tank. However, the price of gas has skyrocketed overnight. I filed up at $2.71 (with 5 cents off for loyalty). The neighborhood stations were jumping prices to $2.99! Ten percent overnight? Better to fill up now!
$3.13 at BJ's yesterday
It was $2.91/gal. for regular yesterday. I got 10 cents off per gallon as a 'reward' for spending money at the store.
Gas has dropped again. Just a few days ago it went from 2.77 to 2.99. Now it is back down! $2.67 at Sams, and anywhere from $2.72 to a few still at the $2.99 price.
Spring Break Confusion?
Have prices in your area been so volatile lately?
only 3 days since my last post, and NOW we are at $3.19!
That is up to fifty cents higher than 3 days ago!
Are you seeing yo yo priceing in your area?
$3.16 when I filled up at Costco this afternoon. Other stations are $3.23 and up
Pulled to see $2.99 at Costco this afternoon! $3.09 and up at the rest.
Same here. $2.98 at BJs, $3.09 elsewhere.
Popped up to $3.25 in the last 2 days!
Are you seeing a jump in prices too?
I think they're up from last week. I was afraid to look, but the prices seem to be much higher than they were when I filled up a week ago. It's going to be an expensive summer.
Between the $3.20s and the $3.60s, depending.
$3.42 when I filled up at Costco this afternoon. $3.49 and up at the other gas stations.
I visited San Francisco recently. The least expensive gas I saw was $4.99!
Upon returning home, I find that it is as low as $2.94 and I saw it as high as $3.15 driving to work.
Quite a disparity!
$3.60 yesterday, at the least expensive gas station.
$3.25/gallon at the local Costco.
$3.11 at Costco when I filled up yesterday. $3.17 and up at the others.
$3.25 when I went to Costco this afternoon. $3.39 and up at the other gas stations.
The line at the gas hut wasn't too bad but finding parking was another story! I lucked out getting a spot by the warehouse entrance.
Gas prices are going downwards:

$3.22 when I went to Costco today. $3.39 and up at the others.
$3.23 when I filled up at Costo yesterday. $3.45 and up at the others around town.
Smooth and safe travels (https://wtop.com/national/2023/06/its-going-to-be-a-record-setting-holiday-travel-weekend-when-to-leave-if-youre-traveling-by-car/) if you're on the road for July 4th!
Not sure what to say about gas prices. Very 'volatile' .
Current price has jumped to $3.35. It was under $3 within the last month, and had been steady in the $3.05-3.14 range lately.
What is it doing in your neighborhood?
$4.98 in Hawaii
$3.65 down the road from me; $3.59 a few miles away.
$3.49 at Costco and Sam's Club. $3.69 at the rest.
$3.87 (cash price) this morning, up from $3.57 just a few days ago.
$3.57 and 9/10 a gallon for regular (87). It's going up over here. I do recall hearing that gas prices are up around the U.S. by 6%.
Gas prices are up! $3.89 just now, up from $3.63 either earlier today or on Tuesday.
It was $3.99 yesterday at most places when I was out running errands, I filled up for $3.80 at Sam's Club. That's what it's been for a while here.
Somewhere over three bucks when I filled up my motorcycle yesterday. Fortunately it gets 100 miles per gallon, so I only needed a little over a gallon.
Has anybody else noticed a proliferation of out-of-order gas pumps lately? Only about half of them were running at our local fuel outlet yesterday, and on a recent trip across the state line I had to go to three places to find one that appeared to have any working pumps at all.
I haven't posted on this thread since July. Wow!
I filled up at $3.35 Costco this afternoon. It's $3.44 and up at the other stations.
