Hi, Mercudenton--I'm not sure if this quite fits the bill for what you're interested in, but Swarthmore College uses a system of external examiners for its honors program (more info here). (Their website suggests that they are unique in doing so, but I always want to take claims like that with a grain of salt!)

Oh yes - thanks that's interesting. That is the kind of info that is helpful. You're right, I'm sure there might be others who do something like this, but are just unaware of each other.
