Got to genius with pangrams so far.  Yesterday we almost had team QB but needed help with teff (again).

ETA: Oh yeah! I meant to complain about LB from 2 days ago.  I had a solution that involved lavalier, and they wouldn't accept it, but I am counting it.  Can't remember the other word right now, but I was so excited to finally get a 2fer...

We need to come up with our own rules which would be probably be far less arbitrary than those used by the NYT😃!

Pangram and genius.

Just realized that I missed hamachi yesterday. I wasn't even aware that I didn't make it to QB. Needed help with chimichanga, which I thought was my last word. Oh, well.

I thought I had QB yesterday, with last word chimichanga (thanks to SBB hints). However, after reading Langue_doc's post, I did not remember getting himachi—and there it was in my word list as not found. Huh. I do seem to remember the Queen Bee screen coming up, but perhaps I was hallucinating. Anyway—today I am at genius with both pangrams.

LB: I had the "official" bacterium-maximized. I found a 2fer today also. Oh, and yes for our own rules!

Apparently there was a bug fix announced during the day regarding the word hamachi.

Not a lot of puzzle time so got hints for caiman, minicam which I should have gotten. And bacterium-mazimized. I already had rectum-maximized-dub so close but no cigar.

Thanks for posting this, cathwen, as I thought I was getting senile.  I too distinctly recall getting the QB screen after my last word, the second pangram, and was surprised to see himachi in my word list this morning.

There should be an override or search function so if a word is not allowed, we should be able to have the system look in a dictionary. If it is in there, it takes! Boom. Plus it would help program their system.

If it's on Spelling Bee and we find a word that should be a word (annatto, riata)) and it passes the override function, great! However, the catch is that the magic system then (1) keeps the word count the same (2) deletes a word that hasn't yet been found - ideally the easiest one (3) resets the points for QB.

That way you override at your own risk.

Got to genius with pangrams so far.  Yesterday was quite the hooha.  I was actually going to put something about it in my post mid-day but forgot.  I had gotten to genius while still in bed, but when I went back to it hours later and entered a word it then took me to genius.  I figured it probably lost one of my words and was trying to figure out which one it no longer had.  When we went to compare, I thought we just had a 7-letter word left, according to the totals I had noted in the morning (242, 42).  When I looked at bee buddy, we had two 7s left.  I thought I had written the totals wrong again, but bee buddy said there were 43 words and 249 points, and when I went back to nytbee, it still said 242, 42.  We got the 7-letter m word (minicam) but couldn't figure out the ha word, and weirdly there was no reader clue available.  I looked at the forum and there was no ha word listed in any of the hints from the top posts.  Finally I saw some posts talking about a 7-letter ha that wasn't needed for QB (though we didn't have QB without it), but that maybe had been included in the list originally and then struck at some point but not from the totals? I am still not clear about what happened, but it was odd.

And no luck on LB, though I had bits and pieces.  Congrats on your solutions!

I like the override idea but am not sure about if or how it should adjust things in the current puzzle.  Maybe it could count as bonus points that are not toward the puzzle but go toward bragging rights and also add for future puzzles.  I would like if everyone still had to get the same word list for official QB each day, I think.  I will mull it over.

cathwen and ab_grp, I just emailed NYT (nytgames@nytimes.com) about the glitch and asked them to revise my stats to reflect my QB status for yesterday's puzzle.

Right on! I hope they don't give you any guff about genius being the highest official level.  I got lucky being such a slug on it yesterday, so although confused I could finish the final version of the puzzle.  You shouldn't be penalized for finishing quickly! If you need someone to testify on your behalf, let me know.  It's such a strange circumstance, and I'm surprised not to see any discussion of it by Sam or NYT Games on Twitter.  Let us know what happens!

Or, the extra words could be catalogued and the magic data people would have more justification for choosing to use a word in future puzzles.
