How Long Does Registration Take?
« on: November 19, 2019, 10:01:42 AM »
Just wondering as to the average expected time it takes from sending in a registration request to receiving approval. Is there a certain amount of time past which I should assume that my request was denied?

Would appreciate any info. Thanks!

Hello,

Typically it takes hours between registration and acceptance. When did you register? As an administrator, I only do outright rejects when there are certain hallmarks of spammers. If your email address ends in .edu, you're golden. If not, just to be sure you're not a spammer, I have the system send a confirmation email. Perhaps this is where you are at; there are currently a handful of "awaiting activation" folks who have not clicked on the link that should have arrived to the email address you provided. Perhaps it is in your spam folder?

Hello.

Thanks for the response!

I submitted my registration about 4 days ago. I very quickly received an email telling me that my request had been received and that I would receive another email once it had been approved.

I have rechecked my inbox and spam folder but do not see the second email indicating approval.

I used a gmail address. Would that have been an issue?

Gmail addresses are fine - however you should have received a second email from the system saying something along the lines of "click here to activate your account".

We currently have 3 gmail addresses awaiting activation from 4 days ago.

If you supply the moniker (user name) you registered with, I can check if you're one of 'em.

Yup, you were one of 'em! You should have just received an email from the system indicating you are registered.

It is weird that you did not receive the second email from the system. Let me know if you don't get the new one. Regardless, you should be able to log in now!

Hey!
I tried registering three times with my personal email and never got approved :/
Now I used my work email (which has edu ending) and got approved.
Thanks for approving me.

FWIW, sometimes the gmail/hotmail/yahoo/etc. account names just sound really spammy, and so get rejected. There are a few patterns spambots use, and if your email account happens to fit one of those patterns or look close to them, it may well just get caught with the spam.
