Looks like a number of households around here will be having a somewhat non-traditional meal.  Some members of our church took up a collection to distribute do-it-yourself Thanksgiving meal boxes to some struggling households in the area.  In lieu of turkey--they knew that some of the households wouldn't be in a position to store or cook a turkey--they supplied canned chicken and a couple of pounds of local woods-to-table venison.  I know one of the recipients, and she's planning to make venison chili.

Except I don't know where to get a really good turkey around here.

Our local Whole Foods just advertised sale prices on fresh (not frozen) turkeys.

We don't either.  Which is hardly surprising for a small town almost an hour away from anything larger than itself.

Looks like you'll just have to get your rifle and go hunting for a bird. Wild turkeys, unfortunately, don't fit in modern ovens, hence the relatively compressed breastbones of farm-raised ones.

Monday before Thanksgiving....

Did you have class today?   Will you tomorrow?  (I dont teach today, but I was at the office and I do give an online exam tonight).
I will teach tomorrow!

I ventured to WalMart today.  It was a decent day, not too crowded... less crowded than I expected.

Are you ready for whatever cooking you are going to do this week?
Will you spend Friday shopping?

I'm off work from the library most of the week--yay! It felt great to sleep in this morning. I know the local public school system will be off starting Wednesday.

We're heading up to CT on Wednesday morning then turkey day with extended family in southern MA.

Clean, Monday isn't a bad day to go to Walmart. Less crowded than the weekend.

I'm taking along appetizers (from the usual place) as requested. Got the usual ones, but also something new. I have a long drive to the people I'm staying with, and then an hour's drive (I'm the passenger) to the Thanksgiving hosts' place. Our host usually has containers ready so that we can take leftovers home.

As for shopping, no, no, no! I'm looking forward to birding on the three mornings after the holiday.

Working like normal through Wednesday, then heading home to Mom and Dad's Thursday morning.  And staying there through Sunday.  I'm starting to think that I may not make it through a full day at work, as I seem to be developing a serious change-of-season headache and earache.

I hope you feel better soon @apl68, and any other forumites who may be under the weatner.

We are staying home as typical, and it's always just us 4. We don't have any family nearby. A few times in the past we have gone 6 states away to visit siblings of spouses, but that was in the before times.

Our meal is vegetarian. A few years we have done a variation on the three-sisters theme. This year it's everyone suggests one thing they like and makes it. So it's an eclectic collection but will be good.  Me and 1 kid are jointly making a mashup recipe of mac and cheese + green bean casserole. Using fresh ingredients and elevated spices.

It's going to be a rather sad Thanksgiving because we lost PoiuyPooch1 last Saturday, at an advanced old age, but it's still left a big void in all our hearts.

Wishing you all a happy Thanksgiving with your loved ones and no drama.

Happy Thanksgiving, all!

About three inches of light powdery snow overnight, which makes the surroundings look quite pretty, here in the countryside.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for the thoughtful, smart conversations we have on these threads.

Happy Thanksgiving All!

It's the last day of warm weather for a while, and I'm trying to enjoy it fully.  The arctic blast is going to give us both our first frost, and then a solid freeze.  A whole bunch of plants need to drop some leaves and go dormant FAST!!

Puerto Rico. It's warm.
It's terrible writing, used to obfuscate the fact that the authors actually have nothing to say.
