No foolin', it is already April!
April Goals
- Continue data analysis from sabbatical project
- Work on manuscript based on recent conference presentation
- Finalize library repository
- Get started on writing book now that contract has been signed!!!
Not much has changed since March, but I really need to get finished on the repository so I can just write!
Oh, right.
- continue translating
- Prepare and give Symposium Talk
- Finish and submit Special Issue Paper 1
- Get most of the way through Special Issue Paper 2
I'm hoping to make progress on the following in April:
- Book project #1 - priority is to identify and contact potential interview subjects for qualitative work
- Book project #2 with colleague - polish and, if possible, submit proposal to potential publisher
- Paper #2 - finish revisions and submit to journal with colleagues
- Paper #3 - revise and submit to new journal with colleagues (desk rejection with option to make some minor edits and resubmit)
- paper #4 - present at conference in a couple of weeks
- Paper #4 - revise in light of conference comments and, if possible, send it off to a journal (sending this to a journal is a stretch goal, but not entirely unrealistic, especially if my co-author is able to dedicate time)
Ugh. Only got as far as translating today.
This week is far too busy. I'll have to put off translating til next week.
Just the symposium slides today. Too much other stuff needs doing this week.
Today's only research task will be Symposium slides again.

Practiced it. It was terrible, but the first time always is.
Probably just the talk again today.
I am stalled on research activities because I am grading papers for two classes that were submitted over the weekend.

Practices it, then rejiggered the slides a bunch. Did a tiny bit of special issue fixing, too.
Bit of symposium prep, maybe a bit of special issue fixing.

Bit of both.
Giving the symposium talk today. I'll also get some work done on the special issue contribution, and maybe even some translating.

Did a whole bunch of work on the article.
Aaaand my computer has died for unknown reasons, so none of what I was hoping to do in the next few days will get done. Sigh.

Fixed the laptop early enough to put in a tiny bit of work on the paper.
Mostly the special issue piece today.

Mostly the special issue piece today.
Did a pile. It still needs a conclusion, but it's so close to done!
The recent laptop scare convinced me I need to have a backup laptop, since it's such a hike to go into town, and so hard to do at the last minute. So I bought a cheap Chromebook. Now I just need to be more regular about backing up my files, especially my library.
Today, I'm just working on my paper's conclusion. Then lots of marking.

Well, I have a more or less complete paper. Still need to tinker and polish a tiny bit, and fix up the citations. But I should be able to send it in shortly! I think it must be worth an R&R. It's so tailored to this special issue, however, that if it doesn't get the R&R, then I dunno what on earth I'll do with it.
I'll read over the paper and see about cuts and things. Then I have to start all my marking...

I didn't have much time, in the end. But I did some fixing, and it's really not bad. I'll do a couple of last things tomorrow, then send it in!
Finishing the special issue paper today, maybe even submitting it.

Finished it, sent it, did a bit of work (~200 words) on next month's special issue submission.
On to the marking.
Mostly marking today, but I can finally return to my translation, too.

Cleaned my desktop, backed up my library, wrote a referee report (accept), and did a bit on the May special issue submission, too.
More translating today; more special issuing would be good, but it's unlikely. Too much marking remains.
I have not done much this week besides teaching/grading stuff and journal editor responsibilities. I blocked out most of Monday to get back to my repository project because that needs to get done!
More translating today, followed by much more marking.

Presented paper #4. Also heard back from the publisher on book project #2 - they have some follow up questions and want to see a chapter, so adding that to the list.
Just the translation quota today.

I worked a bit on book project #2 over the weekend. This morning I made a few minor updates to paper #2 (almost ready to submit - hopefully will get it out next week) and reached out to some possible contacts to interview for book project #1.
Between grading and a journal manuscript review, I'm probably done with research for the day.
I am SO excited! I fixed up the last stuff in the library today and now I have the repository spreadsheet mostly complete! I just asked my spouse for spreadsheet help again because I have the author names in the wrong order (last name is supposed to be first with a comma, oops). Once I get that in there correctly, I will have this ready to submit to the library! I know the librarian I am working with is out until Wednesday, so I am holding all of my files stored until told otherwise. Then I will finally get to the manuscript on this project and will try to finish that before I start writing my book. Yay!

I have some Newslettering to do today, plus I have to fill out reimbursement forms and draw up invoices. Ugh.

That's great! Congrats on your progress!
Thank you both! I was able to finalize the spreadsheet last night and notify the librarian. Today I am going to try to start the manuscript after a training I have.
I was able to write 2 1/2 pages of the manuscript today! I love that I got it started so now I can just keep going when I have time. The first sentence is always the hardest for me, but I let the words flow today. I am so happy with my progress after being stalled for so long. The librarian also acknowledged receiving my spreadsheet and files, and now we can build the repository together!
More translating today, plus preparing the forms for some revisions to a course's prereqs, plus hopefully some writing on the new special issue piece.

Did the things. I even wrote a few hundred words for the paper, which has left me in a pretty good place for the next few days, when I anticipate having more time to devote to it. I may just get a solid draft done by the end of the month, which would be fab.

This morning the librarian and I met for a half hour and shazam: the repository went live! Rather than embargo it, we are just going to withhold any announcement to the world until I get my manuscript done, so now I am
very motivated to finish it before summer school begins. I am
so excited! Three years of work and suddenly my archive is live!

I made some progress on each of these projects over the last week. This week, I'm hoping to get paper #3 off and to do a little more on each of the book projects. However, grading will take priority, so we'll see how much research progress is really possible.

Hit my quota, did some last-minute Newsletter crap, and wrote about 800 words, and did some editing. I just have a small chunk to write, plus a conclusion, and I have a full draft which isn't due until the 15th!
I'll try to get that chunk written and some reorganization of the paper done.

Hard to quantify exactly how much work I did, but it was a good bit. Maybe ~600 words, plus a pile of cuts and some re-organization. I still need to write the conclusion (ugh), but right now I think I've somehow managed to write a
very good paper. Which is a little surprising, because this morning it was just an acceptable paper that didn't contribute much, philosophically-speaking. I don't understand how I do it.

Just translating today. Gotta make up for yesterday's lost ground.
I had grand plans to work on my manuscript today but I was sent on a wild goose chase all over town by my mom who had surgery yesterday. I am exhausted but did manage to have a nice meeting with a student, review some students' final paper drafts, and do some things for my journal editor and IRB chair duties. The only research-related task accomplished was working with a graphic designer to make banners for my library repository.
