June is gone, and July is here.
Monthly goals:
- Finish new translation project.
- Finish reading the book I have to review next.
Stretch:
- Revise one paper.
- Revise a second paper.
Today, I'll mostly just work on the reading.
Just a bit of translating.
Some translating, lots of reading today.
July Goals- Update manuscript to submit to target journal #2
- Write book chapters due August 1
- Get started on book manuscript
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 03, 2023, 07:17:34 AMSome translating, lots of reading today.
Translated a few pages, recorded a lecture, read 60 pages.
Got a rejection without comments after a moderate wait. Shrug. Guess it goes back out unchanged, then. On their own heads be it!
Today, I need to make a small adjustment to one thing, then I guess I'll translate a bit.

Performed the adjustment, but not much translating. Oh well.
Translating today, and I'd like to read another fifty pages, at least. Gotta get that book done soon!

Translated a goodly chunk, read my fifty.
Just some translating today.
I finished reading a book over the weekend that is related to my book manuscript. I typed up notes from it today before I return the book to the library. I planned to work on updating my manuscript today but instead had to run some errands this morning. My back feels a lot better so I am able to sit without pain.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 06, 2023, 07:39:55 AMJust some translating today.
Nope. I did one page before events conspired against me. Sigh.
Today's schedule is all weird. Just some reading; no specific page goal, because I have no clue how much time I'll have.

Only forty pages left to go!
I'll try to finish the book today.
So far this month:
Wrote and submitted an abstract for a conference next summer.
Finished the first complete draft of my dissertation (!).
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 08, 2023, 07:06:37 AMI'll try to finish the book today.

I don't think I'll have a chance to do much today, so I'll settle for whatever.

Just one page of translation.
I'll aim for some translating today. I'm not sure what else.
Monthly goals:
Write 500 words each weekday from this point on.
Write short piece for state humanities magazine.
Read book to review.
Today:
Wrote 520 words.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 10, 2023, 06:54:47 AMI'll aim for some translating today. I'm not sure what else.
Ten pages. Not bad. If I'm lucky, I might finish tomorrow. Elsewise, Thursday.
Whatever translating I can today.
I was on vacation for the last couple of weeks so I'm getting a late start this month...
July goals:
- Make progress on book project #1 - start conducting interviews, polish proposal, maybe submit proposal to presses
- Make progress on book project #2 w colleague - finish draft of proposal and of chapter 1, maybe resubmit materials to press that expressed interest
- Make progress on article manuscript #1 w colleague - we need to get started
- Make progress on article manuscript #2 w colleague - we're at the polishing stage and ball is in his court
I got back to manuscript edits today. I now have a meeting with the managing editor on Friday for my book to get started. I scheduled time with my spouse to work on our chapter draft Friday as well. I may go to the library this afternoon, but I blocked out time Thursday for scanning also.
Wrote 525 words today.
I should start reading that book to review this afternoon.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 11, 2023, 07:18:06 AMWhatever translating I can today.
Just twelve manuscript pages left to go! (And then all of the rest, of course--checking, translating Latin/Greek bits, providing explanatory notes, writing the intro, etc.) Still, I'm closing in on being able to craft and send out the proposal!
A weird, interrupted day today. I might manage a page or two of translation; otherwise, I should re-read the introduction to the other translation and try to work a new thing in.
Got 518 words done today.
I think I'll actually start reading the book for review this evening.

Three pages translated, read the intro and worked the new thing in (though citing it is... difficult), and read a bit of something else for October.
546 words today. I'm a little surprised that this chapter is going as well as it has. I'll take it though.
We have a house guest and my partner had an interview this morning, so I don't think I'll have much time today. But I'll try to get some translation done so that I can be done before the next batch of guests arrive.

I finished it, which is nice! Now it just needs an intro and some footnoting.
Not sure what I'll work on today. Either the footnotes, or a rejected paper.
531 words today. Nothing more. Done for the weekend.
All in all, it was a solid week.

Update manuscript to submit to target journal #2- Write book chapters due August 1
- Get started on book manuscript
I submitted my manuscript on Tuesday. The past two days I finished the last of my scanning project which remained from my sabbatical project last fall. Whew! I met with the managing editor today and have a clear plan and timeline for my book manuscript. My spouse promised to work with me on our chapter on Sunday...I hope hu will still be willing to on the weekend!
Today, I'll make a start on the introduction to my translation.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 15, 2023, 07:59:16 AMToday, I'll make a start on the introduction to my translation.
Made an 800-word start.
I'll finish the Latin translations, and read the next book I have to read.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 16, 2023, 08:25:55 AMI'll finish the Latin translations, and read the next book I have to read.
Well, that's done, at least.
Today, I'll read some of the book I need to have read by October, and start going through some of the additional literature to extend a paper.
568 words on the book today. Good start to the week.
I did, however, remember that I have a conference paper to write. Grumble.
Instead of working on our chapter yesterday, my spouse and I went through our closet and pulled stuff out to throw away or to donate. Thus, we did not write yet. Now our only available time to work on it this week is Wednesday evening (because hu did not want to during the day). I think my next step is to work on my solo chapter so I can provide more guidance for our coauthored one.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 17, 2023, 07:45:06 AMToday, I'll read some of the book I need to have read by October, and start going through some of the additional literature to extend a paper.
Did that.
I did a little collecting of literature and other resources for my chapter today, but spent much of my time on editor and IRB duties.
The first translation has won a contract from OUP, which is fun. And since it's complete, we can hand it in as soon as it's signed. Whee!
Today, I have proofs to go over for an article.
I am watching a webinar for my chapter right now.
585 words today.
I also have to start reading the book to review. That's a late afternoon project though.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 18, 2023, 07:48:09 AMToday, I have proofs to go over for an article.
Done already. I may have time for more later, we'll see. Alas, guests are arriving for the week, which will hamper my ability to do things.

I also read two things.
Probably just reading today--the book for October, plus something for the paper I want to revise soon.
529 words today. It was a bit of a grind, but moving into a new section tomorrow with hopefully help it go better.

I've been making some good progress on these projects since returning from vacation:
I finished a final draft of my book proposal for book project #1 and started submitting query letters to publishers. One decline so far, but hopefully there will be requests to see the full proposal going forward. I also completed my first interview via Zoom.
I revised the book proposal and Chapter 1 for book project #2. It is now in my coauthor's hands. With some luck we will submit it by the end of July, but August is more likely.
Article manuscript #2 is in pretty good shape and I think we'll have it ready to submit within the next couple of weeks - July is a stretch, but August seems reasonable. I need to make some revisions and then send it to my coauthor to take a turn.
I still need to start on article manuscript #1 - hopefully tomorrow or Friday.
I also need to look over the proofs for a short magazine article.
Thanks!
I have another set of proofs to look at today. Then... If there's time, I should try to write something.
I think I will finish the book this month. Seven years are coming to an end.
531 words today.
Need to spend some time on the fluff article.
Yesterday I watched another webinar for my chapter. After I made a nice meal, my spouse did sit down with me for two hours last night and we expanded our chapter, but it needs a lot more work. Hu did not realize the deadline was extended, which provides a little relief (we have an extra month). I spent this morning reading all of the literature I have gathered for my solo chapter.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 20, 2023, 07:38:06 AMThanks!

Proofs done, but nought else.
Guests are still impeding my ability to do much, so I'll just aim to read today. A chunk of the book for October, and maybe something else.
593 words today. Taking a nice weekend off.

Turned around the proofs yesterday - these were actually more like a series of requests and suggestions from the editor and it took me a lot longer than expected.
Today I've been focusing on article manuscript #2. I should finish up with it this afternoon and then I'll send it to my coauthor to take a crack. Hopefully he'll take his time so that I can spend next week focusing on article manuscript #1 and on shopping around my book proposal a bit more. I
must get to work on manuscript #1 next week (or even this weekend if I can find the time).

Dunno that time will allow much of it, but it'd be nice to write a little.

It wasn't super satisfying, but I generated ~1000 words.
Just reading today, I think. Guests will be leaving tomorrow (oof!).
About 500 words, and 600 words of... a new (short) translation project (!).
680 words today.
Started reading the book to review over the weekend. I'll need to finish it this week.
wrote yesterday, so reading today.
I'll do some translating, maybe some other writing. Got some revisions back for an invited piece, so I'll look at those. And I'll referee a revised piece.
710 words today. Too many. I need to slow down a little.
Kept reading the book to review. I'll have to start work on the puff piece soon as well.

I did those things, but the power was off all day, so I didn't manage as much as I might have liked. The revisions are a bit rough, but that's not unexpected for that paper.
Also, out of the blue, I've been invited to be the external examiner on a PhD thesis. A real one, at a real university. 0_o

I spent the last couple of days getting the ball rolling on paper #1, so now I can say that I've made progress on each of my tasks for this month, with some time to spare!
I also received a reply to my inquiry letter from a top publisher requesting to see my book proposal, so I'll work on getting that off this week.
Just reading today.
609 words today. Much more realistic pace.
More reading to do tonight.
I'll translate a bit and do some Newsletter prep stuff. I don't have the courage to tackle the revisions for that paper yet.
768 words today.

Reading and Newsletter today.
633 words today. Getting somewhere.
I'll write the fluff peace over the weekend. Read most of the book to review last night. I'll finish it up this evening.
Managed a few pages of translation today. It's not much, but it'll do.
Today's another reading day. I might, if I'm feeling brave, have a closer look at the comments on the invited piece. Might as well break the ice, since I'll have to revise it soon.

The comments are fine, actually. Also translated five pages. did Newsletter work, and read an extra article.
Gotta do some newsletter stuff. Otherwise... maybe some translation?
651 words today. A total of 9427 on the month. I should have chapter 1 drafted by the end of next week.
Got the puff piece done, and will finish the book needed review later today.
A pretty solid month. If they can all be this solid, I'll have the book done in decent time.
