Got a rejection without comments after a moderate wait. Shrug. Guess it goes back out unchanged, then. On their own heads be it!

Today, I need to make a small adjustment to one thing, then I guess I'll translate a bit.

I finished reading a book over the weekend that is related to my book manuscript. I typed up notes from it today before I return the book to the library. I planned to work on updating my manuscript today but instead had to run some errands this morning. My back feels a lot better so I am able to sit without pain.

Instead of working on our chapter yesterday, my spouse and I went through our closet and pulled stuff out to throw away or to donate. Thus, we did not write yet. Now our only available time to work on it this week is Wednesday evening (because hu did not want to during the day). I think my next step is to work on my solo chapter so I can provide more guidance for our coauthored one.

Quote from: Sun_Worshiper on July 11, 2023, 07:40:12 AMI was on vacation for the last couple of weeks so I'm getting a late start this month...

July goals:
  • Make progress on book project #1 - start conducting interviews, polish proposal, maybe submit proposal to presses
  • Make progress on book project #2 w colleague - finish draft of proposal and of chapter 1, maybe resubmit materials to press that expressed interest
  • Make progress on article manuscript #1 w colleague - we need to get started
  • Make progress on article manuscript #2 w colleague - we're at the polishing stage and ball is in his court

I've been making some good progress on these projects since returning from vacation:

I finished a final draft of my book proposal for book project #1 and started submitting query letters to publishers. One decline so far, but hopefully there will be requests to see the full proposal going forward. I also completed my first interview via Zoom.

I revised the book proposal and Chapter 1 for book project #2. It is now in my coauthor's hands. With some luck we will submit it by the end of July, but August is more likely.

Article manuscript #2 is in pretty good shape and I think we'll have it ready to submit within the next couple of weeks - July is a stretch, but August seems reasonable. I need to make some revisions and then send it to my coauthor to take a turn.

I still need to start on article manuscript #1 - hopefully tomorrow or Friday.

I also need to look over the proofs for a short magazine article.

Hopefully he'll take his time so that I can spend next week focusing on article manuscript #1 and on shopping around my book proposal a bit more. I did those things, but the power was off all day, so I didn't manage as much as I might have liked. The revisions are a bit rough, but that's not unexpected for that paper.

Also, out of the blue, I've been invited to be the external examiner on a PhD thesis. A real one, at a real university. 0_o

I'll translate a bit and do some Newsletter prep stuff. I don't have the courage to tackle the revisions for that paper yet.

768 words today.

Got to put together that fluff piece.  Maybe I'll write it Saturday.

Submitted my book proposal to top press after a positive response to my query letter.

Also met with colleague about book project #2. We're getting there, but pretty clear that the updated materials won't be submitted to the publisher this month.

633 words today.  Getting somewhere.

I'll write the fluff peace over the weekend.  Read most of the book to review last night.  I'll finish it up this evening.

Managed a few pages of translation today. It's not much, but it'll do.

Today's another reading day. I might, if I'm feeling brave, have a closer look at the comments on the invited piece. Might as well break the ice, since I'll have to revise it soon.

The comments are fine, actually. Also translated five pages. did Newsletter work, and read an extra article.

Gotta do some newsletter stuff. Otherwise... maybe some translation?

651 words today.  A total of 9427 on the month.  I should have chapter 1 drafted by the end of next week.

Got the puff piece done, and will finish the book needed review later today.

A pretty solid month.  If they can all be this solid, I'll have the book done in decent time.

Didn't get much done. Newsletter stuff, but not as much as I'd hoped.

A rare month in which I made progress on each of my goals - even though I didn't manage to get any of these projects got off my desk.

Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 01, 2023, 06:52:13 AMMonthly goals:

  • Finish new translation project.
  • Finish reading the book I have to review next.

Stretch:
  • Revise one paper.
  • Revise a second paper.

Made progress on the two papers, and got a contract with OUP for the first translation project. Also refereed a thing.
