I think I've done it, though I'll sit on it for a few days to be sure.

I took a stab at the conference thing again, but it's proving remarkably resistant, and my energy is low.

~900 words. I've found my way in, which allows me to rely heavily on some of the material from my solo translation's intro. So that's nice. And it looks like I've threaded it in sufficiently well that I'll be able to build on it over the next few days.

Phew! I was getting worried.

I'll do what I can to get some writing of the conference paper done, although I've been warned of a big disruption this morning. Sigh. I just can't seem to get a proper hands-free-typing day. It's been weeks.

Wrote 400, cannibalized 1100. I'm two-thirds of the way to a paper!

My perennially rejected paper was rejected again. Too bad, because it's pretty good. Sigh.

Today, I'd like to make progress on the conference piece and finish double checking the paper accepted with minor revisions.

Uuuuugh. The referee was very happy with it--but it got rejected because it was scooped. In fairness, the scooping happened years ago, shortly after I first sent a draft in to a journal. I thought I'd done a good job in the intervening years of showing how this builds on that, but I guess not. Oh well. Bugger it, I'll just re-send it as-is.

QuoteToday, I'd like to make progress on the conference piece and finish double checking the paper accepted with minor revisions.

I sent in the accepted paper. Didn't make much progress on the conference piece because it's cursed, and all of my hands-free time was hijacked. Only got ~500 words in. Which is okay, but I'd have liked to get it pretty much done before the weekend, when we will have guests. Especially since I have to send it in the 13th.

I've been making good progress on book project #1 this week and I am feeling pretty "in the zone" on it. If I could finish a full draft of the chapter I'm working on this month then I would consider that a significant victory.

I also put my RA on the book chapter, so hopefully I'll have a nice outline and some sources to begin working from soon.

I really need to deal with paper #1, as I'm sure my colleague is annoyed. I spent time on it last month, but got frustrated and left it alone, but I should get back to it now that I have had some time away.

I finished a draft of the chapter I'm working on for book project #1, and now it is off with my RA to track down a few data points to add in. I'm crossing this off the list for now.

I also met with my colleague for book project #2. My task for next week will be to read the proposal and chapter over, make whatever edits are appropriate, and then send it back to my colleague for a final look before we send it off. Hopefully the publisher is still interested, as we have been dragging our feet on this for months.

In the meantime, my RA has gotten back to me with an outline and some sources for the book chapter (w colleague for an edited volume), so I think I'll spend this afternoon trying to get the ball rolling on that.

Paper #1 is still on the backburner, but I will get to as soon as these other tasks are off my plate.

From September Goals:

The proposal got accepted, so the shared drive is set up with my coauthor.
I am working on the book chapters and presentation (which was supposed to be tomorrow but got moved to next week fortunately).

I got a R&R with the same colleague I wrote the chapter proposal with so I am going to work on edits soon.

I made great progress today on book project #2. It is in my colleague's hands for the moment, but at this point we have a realistic possibility of getting the proposal and chapter 1 off to the publisher by the end of the month.

So, today... I'll work on adding at least one figure, and will try to tighten up one or both of the others needing it.
