Wow! ee cummings has reincarnated!

LOL!

But actually pretty sad, especially if this is not an ESL student.  If the student's work looked remotely like this correspondence, then the student surely earned no better a grade than what fosca gave.

Quote from: FishProf on April 16, 2024, 07:10:46 AMStudents are required to meet with an advisor in order to register for the next semester.  No, going onto the online portal, picking classes, and then clicking "ask my advisor to review" is not sufficient.  And now, you've missed registration and the classes you need are full.

Not my circus, but it IS my monkey.

Not being familiar with the situation, I'm curious why the "ask my advisor to review" option is there if a meeting is required. Why wouldn't the process be completed in the meeting?

The company that makes the software has it enabled as default and my Uni won't turn it off.

Another locally-owned trailer bears the brand name "Momentum."  Given its size and three slide-outs, it seems quite well-named.  Once you get it going, it must be a challenge to stop!

We saw some of that too.  I was reminded of what some here at The Fora have said regarding a "due date" not being a "do date."

Saturday I assembled a flat-pack bookcase, my previous six self-assembly bookcases having come close to capacity.  It took me and my ten thumbs about an hour and a half.  I seem to have to add a new one about every four or five years.

The biggest flat-pack item I've ever helped to assemble was when I once assisted a friend in putting together a large home desk assembly.  It took the two of us a couple of hours.  He said of the new do-it-yourself furniture "It's amazing what they can do with just sawdust and glue."

The State of Higher Ed / Re: DEI programs in the news

Quote from: marshwiggle on April 15, 2024, 12:39:50 PMOntario university seeks math professor who self-IDs as woman or gender minority

QuoteAside from being an "exceptional scholar and researcher," the tenure track position, ranked as an assistant professor, is looking for candidates with a PhD or equivalent in pure mathematics or a related discipline.

"To address legal requirements for supporting underrepresented groups in the CRC program, eligible candidates for this search are required to identify as a woman or gender minority, which is defined to include individuals who self-identify as women, transgender, gender-fluid, nonbinary and Two-Spirit people."

The discussion of DEI, and here Canadian CDC, reminds me of a line in the movie Miss Congeniality [2000] where Sandra Bullock and Candice Bergen argue over whether the Pageant at the heart of the movie is a Beauty Pageant or a Scholarship Program. Is DEI a Reeducation Program or a Jobs Program? Outside a few States, it's a jobs program and, as such, can't fail!

What fascinates me is that there are so many candidates in any field who qualify as "exceptional scholar and researcher" that arbitrary other criteria can be added without emptying the pool. (It's good that includes those who "self-identify as women", because otherwise it seems like the pool would be mighty small in anything other than Gender Studies or something similar.)

Good morning!

Got to genius with pangrams so far.  My husband knew nacelle as well! We had team QB, but he had to help me with that one and enlace for whatever reason.

I had climbers-shorten for LB after trying chromosome for too long.  Congrats on a different one, cathwen!

And enjoy your visit with your daughter! So cool that your grandson is in France.  I hope he's having a great time.

Happy solving!

Quote from: kaysixteen on April 15, 2024, 07:26:33 PMHmmmm.... methinks you are granting too much to the notion that ignorance is responsible for this kid's behavior.   He would almost certainly never have dared to email one of his hs teachers this way-- what would he suspect had changed?

Why would you assume that?
