The torrential rains here have paused for a few days, but we've got ongoing flooding. My farm share lost 95% of their crops. :-(

No flooding so far, but we've had a huge amount of rain in recent days.  It looks like today is going to be the heaviest yet.

I am travelling and have arrived in San Francisco in what the locals report as the best weather in recent memory.  80 and sunny, light sea breezes and fog that you can watch engulf Alcatraz but doesn't reach the mainland.

Having no basis for comparison, I rate it very nice.  Especially coming from the hot and muggy northeast.
I'd rather have questions I can't answer, than answers I can't question.

Welcome to SF! Enjoy! And as we say, if you don't like the weather, just go around the corner. (Seriously - lots of microclimates here. Wear layers and be prepared to add and subtract.)

Heat Emergency Alert in DC today. I've been indoors at the library since coming in this morning.

Thanks!  We had a great time!

I wonder which San Francisco they were talking about on Fox News because it wasn't the one I just visited.....

There are a few neighborhoods that are a bit rugged, but every city has those, unfortunately.

All week long each day has turned out cloudier, drearier, and cooler than the previous day's forecast had indicated it would be.  Mind you, it's still pretty hot and humid.  Earlier in the week we got up to seven inches of rain in places in the space of about three days.

Meanwhile I'm still shivering in July in my office due to the bizarre state of our HVAC system.  A technician who visited yesterday was able to get conditions moderated a bit.  My office is now the coldest place in the building.

Yet another flood post, unfortunately.  My old neck of the woods has been hit, leading to casualties.  I'm glad that my mother is a few minutes more inland, but my old neighborhood nearer the water got pretty flooded.  With more rain coming and damage to the water barriers, I am just hoping the remaining missing folks are found safe (sadly, unlikely for some of them), and I hope that any further damage is minimal.  On a more minor property damage note, of course my mother did not get her roof fixed after the random tornado issue weeks ago.  Luckily, it was not too badly damaged then, but it's not a great time for torrential downpours and more tornado watches.

apl68

More storms, tree damage, and power outages here.  All very unexpected, as the forecasts had not led us to expect something so severe.  This morning it looks beautiful, and no hotter than our (admittedly severe) normal for July.

ab_grp, saw pictures of the PA flooding yesterday on the weather channel website. Hope the missing folks have been accounted for.

ab_grp

Thanks, Langue_doc! Unfortunately, last I heard the 2-year-old and 9-month-old were still missing, so I am not very hopeful, but we'll see.

I'm visiting Hawai'i for family visits and research.  So, it was 83 and partly cloudy, but there is a tropical storm (downgraded from hurricane) passing the island tonight.  I've already had one day of diving cancelled and more possible.

Well, I guess I can catch up on field notes...

Clear, with temperatures just short of 100 and heat index at almost Death Valley levels.  A perfectly ordinary July day for here.  I don't believe our region's average summer highs have increased significantly since I was a kid.  It's the other six months of the year that have been getting warmer with climate change so far.  You've always had to be half-salamander to get through summer here.

We lost power about 30 minutes ago due to severe thunderstorms in our area, but it's back on now. It's raining lightly for the moment. Temperatures have been in the 90's (F) for awhile. :(
