Very light dusting last night, which promptly melted. Rain, not heavy, but dreary. As predicted, we didn't get the snowstorms that were forecast for inland areas. Sunny tomorrow. Today's bird walk was cancelled.

After frantic warnings about 5-10" of snow, we have only about two inches. Now it's mostly light rain.

Snow for the first time this winter! The first round was heavy and wet, but the temp is dropping so we are getting fluffier snow now which I am much more a fan of. Off to do some more shoveling before the wet stuff freezes onto the sidewalk.

We do not have snow (though there is some talk of it), but what a craptastic weather day it has been here.  Our morning walk was absolutely freezing, but for this afternoon's it warmed up! Unfortunately, that's because there is a very strong front blowing through at about 3000 miles an hour.  There is no visibility due to the dust in the air (and my eyes and teeth and everywhere else, despite being wrapped up like a mummy).  I know we are lucky that it is not an emergency weather situation, and I know that it is much worse elsewhere, but it is not nice weather.  Tomorrow is supposed to be much colder.

It looks like this is going to be a very windy January.  I've heard of forecasts for severe winds in a number of states this week, and we ourselves are supposed to have them tomorrow.  We could have gusts of over 40 miles per hour--and we are not a Great Plains or coastal region.

We're also looking at possible thunderstorms this afternoon.  And temperatures in the extended forecast are set to do a good deal of yo-yoing, though not as extreme as some of what we've seen in recent years.  Glad I've got several days' worth of stew in the refrigerator from Friday, just waiting to be warmed up each chilly evening.

We had some angry sleet last night, but no snow (maybe in the mountains).  As advertised, it's colder today.  Luckily it's not dusty brown, but it's still very windy.  Outside walks are not looking appealing.

Hope it keeps you warm and cozy!

Does anybody else here keep hearing rumors of wildly improbable weather extremes cropping up in forecasts for your regions?  I've heard several in recent days.  They go way outside of anything the standard forecasts and extended forecasts have been predicting.  Today I heard of rumors that we could potentially get lows in the below zero range--which is simply unheard of around here.  The mainstream forecasts do indicate that in days to come we could sometimes have a few degrees of frost overnight, which is the norm for January.

I'm inclined to suspect that some amateur weather bloggers somewhere have perhaps been mistaking forecasts expressed in Celsius for Fahrenheit temperatures.  I can just about see someone ignorant of the Celsius scale seeing a slightly "below zero" forecast and not realizing that it is referring to an upper-20s Fahrenheit low.  That wouldn't explain a rumor of extraordinarily high temperatures I heard the other day, though.  Anyway, somebody's apparently spreading egregious weather misinformation.

Heavy rains, thunderstorms, wind and flood warnings tomorrow through Wednesday morning.

EdnaMode

Sleeting, snowing, and raining with up to 65 mph winds.

Classes cancelled today (second day of the semester) here in the swampy south because of the approaching line of storms/hail/tornados. Hopefully is a big nothing burger.

Thunderstorms yesterday, overcast and wind today.  We are forecast to see a spike into the 60s in the next couple of days, then a drop to more seasonable temperatures.  And next Monday we have a chance of snow.  Which will have people freaking out, although the experience of recent years suggests that it is highly unlikely to amount to anything.  Maybe we'll see some flurries.

Heavy rain and winds here in the Baltimore/DC area today:

There's also a mix of flood watches and coastal flooding warnings.
Some area public school systems have early closings this afternoon.

We have 10+ inches so far with more coming for the next couple of hours.  My battery powered snowblower was barely up to the task of moving such large amounts of wet, heavy snow.  It kept plugging up.  By the time the city plows the streets and plugs up the end of my driveway, I'm going to need dynamite to blast my way out.
