Thanks to everyone who has worked so hard to get this up and running and to create a new space for our old forum. You have my gratitude!
I appreciate this as well, although I never had as much trouble with posting as many others did. The spam had become outrageous, however.
It's also nice to see posters I haven't seen for awhile.
Many thanks to all!
A third vote of THANK YOU!
Yes, thank you! I hope to come by here more often than i did the Chronicle in recent years.
+1
This is so awesome. It's so much better than the old one. I just found the "mark all as read" I've wanted for years.
Thank you thank you thank you!
Aha! This was the thread I was looking for. Yes! Lots of gratitude to those who did an amazing job of duplicating our whole environment here. I am terribly curious to know how difficult it was to design things to look and function in such a similar way.
And although I am quite sad about losing that previous place for community, I do very much like the fact that we are now no longer at the mercy of some surely underpaid staff for addressing some of the persistent problems of the previous site.
I'm glad that it's summer, too -- that will give me a good excuse to dive back in : )

SMF is freely available software. That's why some of us were puzzled by the CHE's insistence over the years that they couldn't upgrade to a modern version nor could they support a modern version after they upgrade their servers over the summer.
I am very thankful too, and thankful to be back with y'all! If I had had the Fora when I was just starting out, it would have saved me from so many embarrassing mistakes...
Thank you number whatever, and thank you for enabling buddy/ignore lists! That feature definitely spared you all from one of my tirades today.
I think a 'block user' feature would be valuable. So that a user who stalks you could be identified and that user would not be able to see your posts.

Wait, where is this "ignore" feature?

To use the ignore feature:
1. Click "Profile" in the menu bar near the top of the page.
2. Click "Modify profile" and then select "Buddies/Ignore List" from the drop-down menu.
3. Click "Edit Ignore List".
4. Enter the moniker(s) of the member(s) you wish to ignore and click "Add".
VoilĂ !
I'll cross-post this to the Technical FAQ (http://thefora.org/index.php?topic=28.0) thread.
Thank you so much for starting this Fora!!! I was so dismayed to learn recently that the CHE had disbanded the forums, and then relieved to learn that members had in their collective wisdom started this alternative. This forum has been a lifeline for me over the years, so I am truly grateful that some hardworking members worked to save it from the dustbin. Thanks again!!!
I wish more academics were here, more involved.
It is only a very tiny percent of us.
I would like to add my thanks as well.
Keeping this forum alive quite obviously takes a great deal of commitment and labor, for which I am tremendously grateful.
And a special thanks for not including a board dedicated to diversity discussions. I don't know if you forgot or intentionally omitted it. But it gives me hope, either way.

The CHE diversity board was not active enough to warrant starting with a board here in that area. If enough threads are started to support a standalone/child board for useful grouping, then such will be done.
Personally, I'd rather have discussions I want to skip clumped together all in one easy-to-ignore board.

It's worse than just than something to ignore. It's a
flattering representation of higher education's values.
Yes, amazing work renewing the board! I very much appreciate it.
I've been off the board for a long while, but then started messing with registration and such. Figured it out, sorta', and am glad to be back.
Cheers to all.
I was happy to see your moniker!
