Title: Worst candy
Post by: jimbogumbo on October 12, 2021, 10:28:16 AM
Inspired by another thread, and Halloween.

Peeps are awful! In fact, they are only rivaled in awfulness by the fake peanuts of the same consistency!

Swedish Fish

I loathe Swedish fish. I loathe sour patch version swedish fish even more. Anything in the sour patch family really.
Airheads are an abomination.

Baby Ruth - mostly for that weird wax that they coat it with in place of actual chocolate. Ugh.

Ferrero Rocher--ever since I saw little weevils in a sealed package. (That's the danger of clear packaging)

Peeps are horrendous. But I hate rockets even more.

You Americans call them 'smarties', but we have a good candy called 'Smarties', so. (Basically, better chocolate M&Ms.)

Also, American Oreos are weird, and American KitKats are inedible.

Butterfinger candy bars.  Blech.

But I love, love, love, Circus Peanuts.  Those pinky-orangey shaped unshelled peanut shaped marshmallowy things that taste like bananas gone wild.  Mrs Artem believes I have never met an artificial flavor I did not like.

Butterscotch discs make me gag. I've also never really liked those strawberry filled hard candies that come in the strawberry plastic wrapping. They always seem to put them in gift baskets around Christmastime.

That's funny, because my tastes are exactly opposite.  I don't care for circus peanuts, but love Butterfingers.  Weird how tastes are like that.

SO dislikes wax lips/bottles, those peanut butter orange and black Halloween candies (I don't mind them), Tootsie rolls (I think they're ok), Dots, black licorice and anything with coconut or marshmallow fluff in it.

I dislike root beer, black licorice, Circus peanuts and I'm not a fan of red hots or fireballs.

Circus Peanuts are like Vienna Sausages.... you eat one and think, "These are Great!  Why dont I eat more of these?"  then you eat a second and think, "hmmm...."  After the third, you think, "OMG, there are still 6 more in them!!"

Yeah, my brother loves circus peanuts, I can't say the same. They were a desperate "I have no other candy left from halloween" thing when I was a kid.
I like peanut butter but the orange and black peanut butter taffy that shows up around halloween is pretty terrible.
The candy corn pumpkins are even worse for me, it's like three or four candy corns mashed together, ick.
I can't abide black licorice, especially the really strong stuff. If death had a flavor I imagine that would be it.
I don't think those wax lips should be allowed to be considered candy.

My department sets out a large bowl of assorted candies for majors: M and Ms, Twix, Almond Joys, etc.

After students ravage the bowl, Snickers remain, for weeks. We literally can't give them away.

Snickers are the abject of the candy world.

Not real fond of black licorice.  Red licorice ok.

The blennius household is sharply divided on licorice terms. Three of us love black licorice and one doesn't.

We're evenly split on twizzlers vs. red vines. I believe it comes down to whether one prefers the texture of plastic (twizzlers) or wax (red vines).

I have seen salt licorice but never eaten any. I can't imagine I would enjoy it but if someone else bought it I would at least try it.

Dark chocolate Mallo Cups. I love dark chocolate. I love Mallo Cups. But the combination of dark chocolate and sweet marshmallow ruins both for me.

Peanut M&Ms aren't the worst, but they're bad. M&Ms should melt in my mouth, but those peanuts don't.

The crispy M&Ms were really disappointing, I think they are just too small to get the textural feel of rice crispy-ness.
Now almond and peanut butter M&Ms I can't buy or I'll eat the entire bag...
Also, whoppers are super gross.

Snickers are better frozen. The best is when they are frozen and you let them sit out at room temperature so the outside is soft but the inside is still a little hard. That's when it becomes Tier 1, IMHO.

No, I don't think they had white centers.  This would have been around 1980.

Peanut butter kisses? (http://northeastnews.net/pages/remember-this-peanut-butter-kisses/) I think they are nasty, but then I don't like any sweet peanut-flavored things, so I'm clearly not the target audience.

I feel like they suffer from generic-candy-itis, what with their plain wrappers and lack of brand name recognition. But I quite like those.

They are probably made by a "real" candy maker like Hershey, but Hershey or whomever would probably rather not have their name associated with a generic candy that a lot of people don't like.

I've been thinking more about this. Aren't they called 'bullseyes'? When I google 'bullseye candy' I get all these links to the company Goetze, which makes 'caramel creams': https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goetze%27s_Candy_Company

So it seems that they're a genuinely independent brand. I recognize the packaging, but I also remember the brown and orange packaging that was discussed upthread. So there might be knockoff bullseyes that make their appearance this time of year.

It's the variety packs. They mix the garbage candy, as filler, with the desirable candy. I went out and bought Hershey chocolate, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, and Kit Kats, and I mixed them altogether. Kids deserve better than getting filler candy like Butterfingers, Snickers, and Baby Ruth.

I don't care for those Halloween kiss candies (molasses I think).
