Let's start April's research agenda...Here we go...
April goals:
-type up meeting notes April 1
-read chapter 15 by April 2
-read chapter 16 by April 5
-write up discussion of research due April 2
-email/send research interview questions
-conduct analysis of interview data
-make and record power point presentation re interview data
-write reflection of article #9 for 2021 project
-write a page for item#4 (book chapter) due late July 2021 (now at 4,000 words, ultimate goal is 10,000)
-read, revise and email myself item #5 (s manuscript) and get it down to <20-25 pages
-Read/review/summarize relevant paper to add to research library for 2021 project
-Update CV to reflect Google Scholar citation count, h-index, and i10 index metrics
-Update CV to reflect ResearchGate score
-Update CV to reflect Publons review metrics
-Update CV to reflect submitted/under review manuscript(s)
-peer-review two new manuscripts relevant to research field(s)
Short-term/ongoing goals:
-Try to stay alive, keep calm, and carry on during the third wave of COVID-19 so that research can continue
-In total, submit ~6 manuscripts/articles/chapter(s) in 2021 (hopefully 3 or more get accepted/published this year)
-Continue drafting item #4 (book chapter) with reading/review of up-to-date literature
-Continue drafting item #5 (s manuscript)
Long-term goals:
-apply for research funding
I'm pretty swamped this month, between teaching, heavy involvement in two conferences, and a few service projects. But I do have a few April goals:
- Finish conference paper
- Do some light copy editing on a conditionally accepted manuscript to make the editor happy
- Keep working on data collection project
I can't wait to have more time during the summer to focus on my research, particularly on finally working through the data that my RAs have been collecting for the last several months.
Thanks, Faith786, for getting this started!
April Goals
- Continue cleaning up transcripts for data analysis with subfield colleague (anticipating conference proposal acceptance in the next week for October)
- Revise rejected manuscript and submit to different journal with two colleagues
- Continue collecting data for project with new faculty colleague in department
- Try to move on IRB and manuscript for project with college friend and another colleague
- Hopefully get proofs for two accepted articles to finalize for publication
Other Goals
- Hear something regarding two manuscripts under review, hopefully R&R
- Continue working on long-term project, which requires people to look for old documents in their offices once they feel safe to return
- Possibly submit proposal due in late April for conference in November

I'm still getting used to my reduced time and energy, but I think these are sufficiently modest:
- Find 2-3 more panelists for annual conference panel
- Referee a bajillion submissions to the annual conference
- Read one big item for each of three new book sections
- Touch up two book sections
- Read one item for Collaboration 3
Stretch:
- Start a new book section
- Touch up and resubmit Collaboration 1
- Touch up and resubmit New Paper (well, it's almost two years old, but still doing the rounds)
Refereed six submissions while the hatchling napped (and shat). Only 35 more to go. Good enough for today!

It's a big conference. Happily, no comments are required, only ratings.
I'll referee a few more today, and maybe read a thing for collaboration 3.
Got to start digging into conference paper no.1 yesterday; confirmed they'll have Ppt sharing available, and thinking through the added illustrations needed.
Paper two has a bit more time to go.
Did a bit of work on a section of the book intro as well.
So, not too bad.

The first goal - we got the conference proposal acceptance yesterday, yay! We have to get those transcripts done so we can finalize data analysis and get our paper completed in September, required to present in October. I did receive communication from the editor of a journal for one of the accepted pieces, so I hope a proof is forthcoming. All hu needed was the mailing address for the hard copy of the journal when published.

I'll do some book section reading today.
Today I went through an R&R that a collaborator had been working on. The paper looked to be in great shape and is very close to being ready to resubmit. It's great when people send me things that are so well-written and close to getting out the door.

I'll do some book section reading today.
Read some for a book section, and a ton for Collaboration 3.
Tiny bit done on the book intro, and a lot done on the upcoming presentation.
More on that today--and every day this week since it's due to be given first thing Saturday AM.
Thankfully, the NPO job stuff is receding in terms of how much is left to do and, apparently, how much time pressure there is to do it sooner rather than later.
Later--as in next week--would be very good.

Big NSF proposal with a rolling deadline - hope to get it out before the end of the month.
I'm not sure I like the rolling deadlines as much, since I want circumstances beyond my control to dictate when a proposal is ready.

Per my second goal, I wrote my two co-authors to ask if we should just submit with minimal revisions after rejection to a different journal because we are just sitting on it nine months later. The first author wrote me back that hu and the other author met without me (and I never would have known unless I had emailed, I guess) and will get me their revisions today. Whatever...
I wrote my two friends about moving forward on the project that I need to apply to IRB for with their training completed and lit review parts that we divided up (I did mine in February). I have not heard from either of them so I am guessing the project will not move forward.
I do not think I will submit a proposal due next week for the November conference, but do plan to attend and volunteered to be a discussant.
A friend of mine has data relevant to a special issue call in a journal so I am joining hu to do something with her (due in June).
Article accepted today! This is a solo hit in a very good journal, so I'm very happy. This paper was also rejected quite a few times before finding a home, which just goes to show that persistence is key.

Yippy! I needed to see someone's good news! I wrote a journal yesterday that has had an article under review for six months. The editor wrote back today that "it is with two reviewers, but hopefully you will get a decision very soon." Not sure how to take that other than clearly the editor(s) needed a nudge to check on the status.

I'm pretty swamped this month, between teaching, heavy involvement in two conferences, and a few service projects. But I do have a few April goals:
Finish conference paperDo some light copy editing on a conditionally accepted manuscript to make the editor happy- Keep working on data collection project
I can't wait to have more time during the summer to focus on my research, particularly on finally working through the data that my RAs have been collecting for the last several months.

A bit more reading for a new book section today. I should be able to finish the reading phase tomorrow. Whew!
(It's not that there's a lot to read, just that I have to space it out over many more days than usual.)
I've been forgetting to update here, but I've gotten some feedback on a draft of a grant proposal and incorporated suggestions from one of those readers today. Three more sets of comments wait to be incorporated some other day.
My new colleague in my department and I had a great conversation with some folks and received some archives for our project today.

Edits to one proposal (due tomorrow) done, and now to return to the NSF proposal.
Gonna finish the book section reading today, and then maybe some Collaboration 3 reading.

Paper went well on Saturday, and I ended up listening to 3 more sessions' worth, and enjoyed them.
No requests to publish it (a friend said that can happen with this conference, which has its own journal; it's on hiatus, apparently), but I have a better sense of what I want to do with it now.
Next one in...3 weeks or so.
M.
Today I need to do some editing for the subfield association's newsletter, so I'm unlikely to achieve much else, research-wise. But I can hope for a little work on the new book section!
I forgot to include an author bio for a forthcoming publication.
Author bios seem so trivial compared to the content of the paper, but for editors, they seem to be just as important, at least at this stage in the game.

I hate providing bios. Ugh. Surely nobody reads them, either, since we all read the articles in PDF form.

Need to referee some more conference submissions today, and hopefully work on that book section.
Almost done with the refereeing--four more to go, probably tomorrow. I even put some work into the Newsletter.
I have two revise-and-resubmits but I cannot get out from under my to-grade pile. One is due in May and the other has no formal due date but the staff does not work over the summer. It's depressing me a bit.
I'll finish the refereeing today, and maybe get some work done on the next book section if time and marking allow.
I have been absent unintentionally from here, but am on grading overdrive apparently. I got a proof of one of the forthcoming articles on Friday, and the publisher wrote "Dear LastName" and then wrote the wrong title of the article in the email, so I am not optimistic about their work. The proof had my co-author's name wrong and affiliated hu with my institution, which is also incorrect. It seemed that every line had a word broken up by a hyphen and put partially onto the next line, so no one will want to read this. Oh well.
Since I finally received the formerly rejected manuscript to be reworked for a different journal last week by my two secretive co-authors who are meeting without me, I have to work on that today. I am also starting to work on another new project this week with a friend for a special issue due in June.
Forgot to update my success yesterday.
Gotsta mark all day today, but I'll make a little time for the book section and to email co-author 3 about our project.

a lot of marking today. 0_o
Yesterday I finished my edits on our revision and submitted it back to my co-authors. Today I took it easy and did not do anything work-related except respond to emails and zoom with doctoral students tonight. Instead, I volunteered at the vaccine clinic. It was a nice break.

Same deal as yesterday: book section, email.
I am reading transcripts today for the special issue project with my friend due in June. Happy Friday!
Go library interlibrary request form! Got article today delivered in record time to email! Need that. Thank you friendly librarian!
I spent the morning in Rouen and the afternoon in Hereford.
Four more slides were produced, started, or vastly improved, as a result.
Good times.

April Goals
- Continue cleaning up transcripts for data analysis with subfield colleague
Revise rejected manuscript and submit to different journal with two colleagues- Continue collecting data for project with new faculty colleague in department
The rejected manuscript finally got submitted today to another journal.
Data collection has continued with my new colleague, here and there.
The project waiting for IRB is paused, as both of my co-authors have ignored my emails spaced a month apart asking if they still want to do it or not, which is fine with me. It was initiated by one of them anyway, and I need to stop taking on new projects...I keep telling myself this!
I reached out to subfield colleague today to see if hu's GA is still helping us clean up data or not so I know what we need to do next.
I decided not to submit a proposal to the November conference by last week's deadline, so I was delighted when the head of the organization emailed me yesterday for an invited presentation and offered to waive my registration fees!
So far, I received one of the two proofs for accepted manuscripts.
I contacted the editor for one under review since November, who said it was still with reviewers and we would hear soon. More than two weeks later, we have heard nothing.
We got a rejection on the other one that was under review, but found another journal to try (third time might be the charm).
Today I reviewed data for the special issue project due in June.

More of the same today.
Did more of the same! The section is shaping up.
Today I have a few smallish Newsletter tasks to take care of, some conference panel invitations to send out, and perhaps book section work to continue, if time and marking allow.

Good enough. More tomorrow.
I have to do things in the world today, but I'll try to get April's lone book section into some kind of shape.
The rejected manuscript got sent back for being too many words over maximum word count. I chopped it down by 1,000 and we resubmitted. I guess that is my new superpower lately! Today I worked on coding transcripts for the special issue manuscript.

April goals:
Finish conference paperDo some light copy editing on a conditionally accepted manuscript to make the editor happyKeep working on data collection project
I haven't gotten much research done in the last couple of weeks, but still managed to get through these tasks. Looking forward to having more time for research in May.

Not happening, I'm afraid. Maybe tomorrow, definitely by Sunday.

I'm still getting used to my reduced time and energy, but I think these are sufficiently modest:
- Find 2-3 more panelists for annual conference panel
- Referee a bajillion submissions to the annual conference[/s]
- Read one big item for each of three new book sections
Touch up two book sections
Read one item for Collaboration 3
[/list]
Stretch:
- Touch up and resubmit Collaboration 1
- Touch up and resubmit New Paper (well, it's almost two years old, but still doing the rounds)
The search for panellists is infinite (I didn't complete that goal because I haven't heard back from a ton of people). And I only did the big readings for one new book section.
Reduced word count manuscript was resubmitted yesterday. Other rejected manuscript was submitted to a new potential home today. Onward!
