Happy Canada Day!
July goals:
- Submit final draft of chapter (needs "snappy" headings)
- Deal with editorial queries about T2
- Finish and submit R&R
- Finally comment on acquaintance's paper
- Start up book work again. I'd like to get a draft chapter done.
Today, I'll work on snappy section headings and the last small cosmetic changes to the R&R.
July goals:
- Make progress on paper #1 (with colleague)
- Make progress on paper #2 (with colleagues) - presenting at conference in August
- Make progress on book #1 (with colleague)
Short list this month, as I cleared a lot of things in June. I'm anticipating a contract for book #2 this month or next (fingers crossed) and I have several papers off with journals, so the list might grow as those things come back to me.
July goals- Main goal: finish book manuscript
- Secondary goal 1: make progress on chapter with spouse due in August
- Secondary goal: work on revisions for manuscript due in August
I have been unable to work on anything the past week since I traveled with my mom. This week I am joining two colleagues for a little writing retreat in the library to keep us accountable. I have no choice but to focus on the book manuscript since it is due August 1st.

Finished and submitted both--and discovered my R&R was actually "minor revisions". Hah!
Today I'll start on the editorial queries for T2.

Done. Whew. I really didn't want to do that.
Having run out of deadlines, today I finally return to the book. And I'll re-read my acquaintance's paper, too.

1k words, re-read the thing but can't comment until I get my own laptop back tomorrow.
Also, my R&R/minor revisions were accepted today, so that's nice!
Off to pick up my fixed laptop today (although the motherboard is apparently a bit dodgy), which will suck up most of my time. I'd like to do some book work though.

Book writing, commenting, and maybe starting on T4 today.
Working on the intro to the book.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 05, 2024, 07:45:46 AMBook writing, commenting, and maybe starting on T4 today.
600 words, the comments, and the first few pages of T4.

Nope, total failure. Morning excursion took all day, unsurprisingly.
Hoping for some book writing progress today.
Got the rest of this month to get revisions done.
Initial revisions of all 11 chapters and preface done, now down to the nitty-gritty.
Will need to proofread works cited and decide if I want to keep the one appendix or not.
Should be on schedule.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 07, 2024, 07:53:28 AMHoping for some book writing progress today.
Insufficient time. Wrote 300, then noticed I was re-writing something that somehow didn't save. Fingers crossed I have it somewhere else, otherwise that's Thursday's work all gone.
Whew. Found those 600 words backed up elsewhere. I'm especially relieved because they were quite good, and got me out of a bit of a writing pickle. It would have been tough to replicate.
Kwell, today I'll re-integrate whatever crap I produced yesterday with the lost chunk, and then I'll try to write a couple hundred more. And maybe do a little work on T4.
I was not able to work on the book today.

You are inspiring! I did enjoy the writing retreat in the library Friday with my two friends. I made some good progress. Then a former student of mine just published an article inspired by the very topic I am writing about (they took my class two years ago on it) and so I am able to cite it in the book manuscript. My managing editor asked me today to commit to the August 1 deadline or not, so I went for it and even suggested the former student to be a manuscript reviewer. I have five chapters about 99% done and am working on the remaining six in a frenzy. I also had two case study contributors withdraw or ghost me, so I got two students in my current class on this topic to agree to contribute their cases tot he book. I did work on the manuscript today and am trying to do something every day to get this done. It helps my spouse is gone next week for a trip with friends so I can work on my book on the weekend and at night with less guilt. I am finishing the month at a writing retreat which should help me put on finishing touches.
Thank you. I don't have a whole lot else going on, honestly. Working part time at a newspaper, hanging out with my wife, and trying to add one last bit of scholarship to the matrix. Wrote two news stories today. Brain dead. But trying to get something done.
Alright everyone! Go, team! Go!!
Well done, Wahoo!

Finished the first (and shortest) of three sections I'm doing for T4 (the other two sections I'm leaving for a friend to try her hand). Also wrote ~400 words.
Back to working on the intro.
More writing today. Beyond that... not sure.
Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 09, 2024, 10:59:45 AMMore writing today. Beyond that... not sure.
I cut 1k words and moved them to Ch. 7, then wrote 1.1k more. But now I think I'm done. I could do more, but I'm tired and it's hothothot.
Got article proofs last night, so I'm doing that today. And hopefully a couple hundred words, in between errands.

~600 words; the draft of the chapter isn't pretty, but it's maybe one section short of complete! Also did the proofing. Events scuppered the errands.
Back to working on the intro.
Aiming for a bit of writing, but I won't have much time today.
Overnight, I decided that the missing chapter section probably deserves to a chapter of its own or, at least, the bulk of the intro. So I might move on to that.
Yesterday I wrote about 95% of a chapter, so that was awesome! I reserved a fancy room in the library today and tomorrow to use for writing, so I am about to head there and keep rolling.

I spent the last couple of weeks writing a chapter of book #1. At this point, it is up to my coauthor to draft the remaining chapters of the book (except, perhaps, the conclusion, which we will hold off on and for the moment). So I'll be turning to other projects for now and putting this on the backburner until September.

Nope, events co spired against any work. Oh well.
Aiming to write a chunk today, possibly in the new chapter I've identified.
Yesterday I finished the chapter and started the next one. I am sitting in the library now, working on it. After I get this one completed, I still have four to finish.

I just finished the chapter! Onto the next one...
The introduction is coming along nicely.
Wrote a few hundred and started refereeing a pile of garbage, but my workday got scuppered. Oh well.
Maybe some reading today? Dunno. I have family visiting for the week.
I wrote about half of a chapter today, and set myself to finish it hopefully in the next day or so.

I'll try to clear that report.

Did that (another 1.1k words), and read 1/3 of a thing for the T3 intro, which my co-translator is taking the lead on (phew!).
Yesterday I was tied up and today I blocked out time to write but a student took much of that time, so I did a tiny bit of organizing a chapter tonight but hopefully I can get this and the next one done before I head out of town this weekend.
Proofing proceeds apace on the critical edition/edited collection, for which I finally received a contract yesterday!
Recently completed Monograph 3 has had a publisher request the full manuscript.
Writing continues in driblets on Monograph 4.
Aiming to finish that T3 intro reading.
Finished another round of editing for the intro.

1500 words, which is okay, but I was hoping to do more. Oh well.
My three hours did not happen today - I had to get a last minute medical appointment. Hopefully I can get some writing done tomorrow and on my flight Saturday.

1300 words, and my translation partner sent the intro, which I read. Did thte class stuff, read most of a book reading.
C. 1000 words and a bit of reorganizing for an article that lays groundwork for a monograph which will be my focus next year. I love it when I wake up and things that have been percolating in the subconscious reveal themselves!
A little bit of incorporating yesterday's work into the intro today, though I won't have time for much.
I wrote 800 words today in my second to last chapter. I am actually at a writing retreat (a gift to myself after my promotion) but we only had a short time for "free writing" which involves technology. Otherwise, we have activities and workshops. These are great, but I am so tired after 12+ hours of sessions and meals that I am not using my evening time as wisely.

I submitted a grant proposal related to book #2 today. More generally, I've been focusing my time on that project, despite some holdup on the contract.

except finalizing reflection questions at the end of each chapter and doing a full read-through. My final chapter is a little too short right now, but I only started it yesterday and kept rolling today. It is due on Thursday so I have a few days to finish everything. I am so relieved.
Also, impressively my spouse finally decided to start working on our chapter today which is due in two weeks. I told hu that is all I want for our upcoming anniversary :-D

It's wild but I am so close! I spent all day reviewing the first eight chapters of my book manuscript, making edits and adding content. I am going to review the rest tomorrow. I also need to grab a book from my office and one from the library tomorrow to make a few additions to the manuscript. This is really happening! It is due Thursday so I will be working on it until I submit it (though I know it is a draft and will be peer reviewed).
Busy day, but will aim to write a tiny bit more of the book.
First draft completed and sent to co-authors for review. This one is the first in what should be a series of papers coming out of a very long project.
