Title: July Research Thread
Post by: Parasaurolophus on July 01, 2024, 08:36:37 AM
Happy Canada Day!

July goals:

Today, I'll work on snappy section headings and the last small cosmetic changes to the R&R.

July goals:

Short list this month, as I cleared a lot of things in June. I'm anticipating a contract for book #2 this month or next (fingers crossed) and I have several papers off with journals, so the list might grow as those things come back to me.

July goals

I have been unable to work on anything the past week since I traveled with my mom. This week I am joining two colleagues for a little writing retreat in the library to keep us accountable. I have no choice but to focus on the book manuscript since it is due August 1st.

Finished and submitted both--and discovered my R&R was actually "minor revisions". Hah!

Also, my R&R/minor revisions were accepted today, so that's nice!

Got the rest of this month to get revisions done.

Initial revisions of all 11 chapters and preface done, now down to the nitty-gritty.

Will need to proofread works cited and decide if I want to keep the one appendix or not.

Should be on schedule.

You are inspiring! I did enjoy the writing retreat in the library Friday with my two friends. I made some good progress. Then a former student of mine just published an article inspired by the very topic I am writing about (they took my class two years ago on it) and so I am able to cite it in the book manuscript. My managing editor asked me today to commit to the August 1 deadline or not, so I went for it and even suggested the former student to be a manuscript reviewer. I have five chapters about 99% done and am working on the remaining six in a frenzy. I also had two case study contributors withdraw or ghost me, so I got two students in my current class on this topic to agree to contribute their cases tot he book. I did work on the manuscript today and am trying to do something every day to get this done. It helps my spouse is gone next week for a trip with friends so I can work on my book on the weekend and at night with less guilt. I am finishing the month at a writing retreat which should help me put on finishing touches.

I spent the last couple of weeks writing a chapter of book #1. At this point, it is up to my coauthor to draft the remaining chapters of the book (except, perhaps, the conclusion, which we will hold off on and for the moment). So I'll be turning to other projects for now and putting this on the backburner until September.

Wow, that is awesome! I have finished drafting my entire book manuscript except finalizing reflection questions at the end of each chapter and doing a full read-through. My final chapter is a little too short right now, but I only started it yesterday and kept rolling today. It is due on Thursday so I have a few days to finish everything. I am so relieved.

Also, impressively my spouse finally decided to start working on our chapter today which is due in two weeks. I told hu that is all I want for our upcoming anniversary :-D

It's wild but I am so close! I spent all day reviewing the first eight chapters of my book manuscript, making edits and adding content. I am going to review the rest tomorrow. I also need to grab a book from my office and one from the library tomorrow to make a few additions to the manuscript. This is really happening! It is due Thursday so I will be working on it until I submit it (though I know it is a draft and will be peer reviewed).

Busy day, but will aim to write a tiny bit more of the book.

First draft completed and sent to co-authors for review.  This one is the first in what should be a series of papers coming out of a very long project.

Revise and Resubmit for the paper we submitted in April is next on the agenda.

Look at me ma!  I did a science!

Thanks! I finished reviewing chapters yesterday and made two trips to the library to get interlibrary loans that arrived in the nick of time! Now I am rethinking everything (just kidding). The call for reviewers went out yesterday too. I am pretty excited and also prepared for lots of constructive feedback in a few months.

A tiny bit of writing today. Too many other things are cramming into the next couple of weeks.

Only managed 300 words. Much too much on my plate for the next couple weeks. Also started on a referee request.

Report:

Quote from: Parasaurolophus on July 01, 2024, 08:36:37 AMJuly goals:

  • Submit final draft of chapter (needs "snappy" headings)
  • Deal with editorial queries about T2
  • Finish and submit R&R
  • Finally comment on acquaintance's paper
  • Start up book work again. I'd like to get a draft chapter done.

On the draft chapter front, I wrote about 2.5 of them, which is fab. Also refereed a few papers, and started work on T5, and the R&R was accepted and is now published. If only I had more months like July ahead of me!
