My annual review feels like an exercise in nickel and diming

Annual reviews at my place are done with a point system as well. It is a stupid exercise that rewards quantity over quality, but also the basis for raises so there is an incentive to document every little thing.

One year our department asked us to list how many letters of recommendation we wrote, presumably motivated by a committee member who wanted to be lauded for this. But then someone made fun of the request in a faculty meeting and then the request was dropped.

Regarding the OP, I think it would be pretty easy for many of us to list the professional dev workshops we attended - do people really do that many.
