What are you teaching?

What are good ways for students to receive feedback on their practice before the big assessment?

Busy work is the term for would-be practice that doesn't actually help, either because students sidestep the practice part or because it's not the correct thing to practice to improve.

The implementation details are specific to the subject, skills, and student body.  Nothing really helps if the students don't want to learn.
