Cal State Ethnic Studies Requirment

The State Legislature votes to change the ethnic studies requirement in the system's core:

My question--won't this cause the whole system to be sanctioned by WASC? It is hard to see how it is acceptable for the legislature to mandate specific courses in the system's core curriculum. I'm certainly worried if this becomes a precedent what my red state legislature might want to do...

So presumably at some point the state will have to prescribe the content for the course, which means prescribing the ideological tone of the course, given its title.
