He doesn't bring up the "per-page vs. per-hour" question as a debateble issue, but I know I've sat around tables of editors at various get-togethers and heard it discussed in the terms I've mentioned above--maybe it's a regional thing.

One of the benefits of age is an enhanced ability not to say every stupid thing that crosses your mind. So there's that.
