Budget cuts at CUNY resulting in layoffs just before the Spring semester

Haven't seen this in any of the major newspapers yet--

Queens College Lays Off 26 Faculty Two Weeks Before Spring Semester

In the middle of the school year, at least two CUNY colleges in Queens have slashed dozens of staff following the City University's central administration mandates last month for eight campuses to make "enhanced deficit reduction plans."

Pretty appalling of them to decree something like this at virtually the last minute.  It's a real injustice to both the faculty who are losing their jobs on short notice with no hope of finding work elsewhere on such short notice, and the students who were going to be attending their classes.
