Looks like a number of households around here will be having a somewhat non-traditional meal.  Some members of our church took up a collection to distribute do-it-yourself Thanksgiving meal boxes to some struggling households in the area.  In lieu of turkey--they knew that some of the households wouldn't be in a position to store or cook a turkey--they supplied canned chicken and a couple of pounds of local woods-to-table venison.  I know one of the recipients, and she's planning to make venison chili.
And you will cry out on that day because of the king you have chosen for yourselves, and the Lord will not hear you on that day.

Except I don't know where to get a really good turkey around here.

Our local Whole Foods just advertised sale prices on fresh (not frozen) turkeys.

We don't either.  Which is hardly surprising for a small town almost an hour away from anything larger than itself.

Looks like you'll just have to get your rifle and go hunting for a bird. Wild turkeys, unfortunately, don't fit in modern ovens, hence the relatively compressed breastbones of farm-raised ones.
