I have been patiently waiting for the pressure treated wood on the new screen porch I framed in earlier in the summer to dry so I can start painting and then FINALLY install the screen. It looks like this will be my weekend. I cannot wait to have it finished--a nice fall season outside minus annoying insects!

ALSO: I fixed a flat tire on my lawn mower last weekend, I was pretty proud of myself for some reason, putting in a plug wasn't a hard job. I actually was most excited that I got the reason to spring for a nice floor jack... Having an opportunity to acquire new tools always makes me happy.

Discovered a carpenter ant nest in the window casing of our cabin (and, presumably, much of the surrounding wall, too. That's beyond my ability, desire, or time to fix.

But I did clean the gutters. I don't think I've ever done that before. They sure needed it.
I know it's a genus.

I fixed an old wind chime using wire, cord from old window blinds, scrap wood and varnish. It looks a lot better now!

I let smolt put up her window curtain rods in her new room.

They are not even, level, or centered.  Perfect.

I affixed the skylight on the tiny house, which was removed for transportation, then balanced precariously while the house was canted and awaiting another truck to position it. Final fixing will be sometime next week, probably. Or maybe tomorrow.

The brake lights on my daughter's 25+ year old minivan (don't laugh: it goes) all stopped working at once. Replaced some bulbs. Nothing. Replaced the fuse. Nothing. Watched a YouTube video and switched out the stoplight switch (a little plastic thang) behind the brake pedal. Boom! The brake lights work!

Total cost about $25.

25 years old? That's just starting to get broken in good.

Awwwwwwwww!  I wish my parents had let me learn by doing things like this, too!

I just paid $200 to get a garbage disposal installed.  Now I need to get the dishwasher fixed since it does not drain. At Mrs Artem's insistence, it's a weird brand only made in Germany and the tech will have to come from out of state.  And on top of that, the car is in the shop getting a front end collision repaired to the tune of $6000+.

The only thing I have ever fixed is my name to the bottom of a check so somebody else can deal with the problem.  All I really know how to do in life is read, talk, write, and some reasonably basic mathematics.  Beyond that, I got nuthin.

Perhaps one of you can advise - where do I turn in my man card?

Any chance the dishwasher drainage problem might be related to the installation of the disposal? Google seems to think it's a common enough problem, with several fairly simple causes and remedies.

This weekend I made good use of my electric screwdriver and a package of self-drilling metal screws putting corrugated metal sheeting over the leaky roof of the catio and re-attaching a section of downspout on the house.
