Film studies journals?

Question for Film Studies folks or those familiar with the field. Which 10 journals do you respect or read the most?

I suspect you'll get more answers if you give a bit more context for your question. It has the feel (false, I'm sure) of a student trying to get a bunch of profs to do their homework assignment. Plus, I suspect the answer will depend on what type of work you're interested in.

At any rate, back when I did things more in line with film studies, Cinema Journal, Velvet Light Trap, Journal of Film and Video, Quarterly Review of Film and Video -- those are the ones I read most.

I'm not in the field, but I have had occasion to look at Cinema , Cinema Journal, and the Journal of Aesthetics and Art Criticism (not a film studies journal, and it publishes no art criticism either, but it has published some very interesting work about cinema).

I am afraid it is too specific a question for this forum.

I would suggest you ask a senior colleague for guidance. They should be able to answer this question very easily.

Additionally, look at some highly cited or otherwise seminal articles in your field, and take notice of where they are published. That should give you a pretty good indication of what the most influential journals are.

I wanted to get a sense of what journals people were reading which not always align with those considered "top" journals, at least in my field. And, no, I'm not a student trying to get you all to do my homework, just new to the forum!

Not a journal, but the Harvard Film Studies program has had materials online.

I'm guessing anything their faculty publish in might be a place to start; you might want to think about what historical or artistic topics you're most interested in, and focus on those.

You can also access Hollis, the main HU library catalogue, online. A search for film topics should reveal some useful titles.

I figured as much! You'll have to forgive me for my highly developed sense of "someone's trying to get me to do their work for them," which has perhaps become overly sensitive after years of having people try to get me to do their work for them.

That clarification certainly helps. I think Cinema Journal is a good place to start -- it's the journal of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, which is the largest film studies (and other media, too) association in North America.
