I guess it might be time to delete this thread. It is not blending with the culture here. Although that in itself would be interesting information.

I just think that a lot of people are overwhelmed. I know I have been.

I have often been a freeway flier and I think I posted on that thread in the old fora. I think the timing here is just awkward. I am not teaching this semester, but by March 6th, when you posted, I think most freeway fliers were probably just juggling multiple browser windows from home.

On a related note, I survived the tech portion of my freeway flying--which at one point spanned three separate schools--by using the "containers" option in Firefox. So if anyone else is trying to juggle multiple Outlook accounts, please know that that one option saved me hours of angst and stress.

Freeway flyer here. Four separate institutions/departments! My digital clutter is absolutely absurd. Each place has obviously its own LMS, its own email/outlook client, and its own institutional Zoom account. It's this latter one — signing in and out of the institutional Zoom licenses — that is the most annoying. Email is probably the second most annoying; however, this was the case previous to Covid-19, so nothing is changed other than the fact I email a lot more now. I basically have my own informal system of assigning one browser to one institution. E.g., Chrome is for School X, Safari for School Y, Firefox for School Z, etc. The trade off for the digital clutter is the fact that I don't have to drive so much these days.

I was just going to suggest the use of browser-sorting: I field two Twitter accounts, and that's the only way to stay sane with them.

Glad to know I'm in good company!

Is the title of the thread ironic? None of us is flying along any freeways, and the thread was started March 6, when it was already clear that we were moving online. A lot of adjuncts teach online at several places anyway. Then others use subways, trains, and buses. Or bicycles.

Maybe it's the first time the fliers have had a minute free to start a thread....

You mean, apart from this one?

I wasn't thinking of that. Just the nickname.

My car is just sitting there. I wonder if it's lonely.

What do you do when there's a holiday and one school changes the routine, i.e.'Tuesday will follow a Monday schedule?' And then you're expected to be in two places at once. I usually reschedule some of the classes, but then attendance is light.

I just cancel the class on the different day. I don't mention to it to the Chair of course. The students don't complain.

But theoretically this should affect your evaluations if they include a question like 'agree or disagree, scale of one to five: this class meets regularly as scheduled.' Especially if you get sick and get behind the eight ball with cancellations.

I don't give a shit about my evaluations. I don't even read them.

Right, I see you have a practical solution. However, your chair can read your evaluations, and can discontinue your employment based on non-attendance.
My thought is a union could propose a surcharge each time this happens, for the inconvenience of rescheduling. Of course, unions have to prioritize.

downer

Sure the chair could do that. Or I could die from a disease. But so far I persist.
