Hi,

I don't know if there are any lurkers here who applied for NIH DP2 (Director's New Innovator Award), but I did and am riddled with anxiety. It is my first time applying (but second-to-last year of eligibility) and I got a 26. I am happy about that, but uncertain of chances.

Best info I saw from a ~2017 poster at writedit:

10 got it
16 got it
19 got it
27 got it
33 didn't
34 got it
37 didn't
40 didn't (my first try)
76 didn't

Would be happy to hear any replies. The CAREER thread was a pretty nice resource for the waiting period, though I imagine the pool for this one is much smaller.

For those of us playing along at home, can you say more about the list of "who got it" and "who didn't"?

Just--puzzled--who got what? Is the list by years? Some breakdown in the types of awards? Other?

Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

Give instruction to the wise, and they will be yet wiser: teach the just, and they will increase in learning.

Not sure I am reading your table right but it looks like they are awarding somewhere between 20-30% of applications.  I am a little surprised it's that high but maybe there was an initial screen-out before the full application.  In any case , with a score of 26 and that award percentage, I would think your chances are good.  Good luck.

This year 18% of applicants made it to final round, where they received a final score. Others did not receive a score.

"Got it" means they got the money. I think that list (which I just pasted from the writedit forum comments) is anecdotal data from one person's friends over several years. Afaik we have no public data on what a "good score" is (though it is NIH so lower is better, 10-90 is range), and timeline to find out, which adds to the anxiety and hence the post!

Hi! Can anyone who has applied to the NIH DP2 in previous years share what the timeline is?
It is my first year applying, and I am not sure what to expect about the waiting time. I know there are 2 review rounds - but do hear anything about the first rounds? And when would that be?
Thanks!

Check out the MIRA/DP2 spreadsheet:

Tons of info there. In short, you learn first news in Jan-Feb, then a slow trickle of more info, but won't know for sure you got it until August.
