With a small cohort who spends all day together like a monastic order, it would be pretty low risk to do in-person.

However, it really has to be an isolated bubble that starts with a quarantine period.  No going home to a family every night.  Eating together or alone, dorm or similar living arrangements with the only contact between this bubble, and the isolation includes the instructors.

I can believe that an apprenticeship system with cohorts of under 20, highly motivated people could work for a few months at a time.  I have serious doubts about large numbers of random college students who want the college experience to include social activities.

Do whatever you want--I'm just the background dancer in your show!

It's terrible writing, used to obfuscate the fact that the authors actually have nothing to say.

The map above shows only universities in the USA. I saw a report that Carleton University in Ottawa, which I think is ~ 30,000 students, will be fully online for Fall 2020.

My place is online now for summer quarter and announced this week that we will be online for fall, which means Oct-Dec.
One of the benefits of age is an enhanced ability not to say every stupid thing that crosses your mind. So there's that.

George Washington University will be all online for Fall 2020.

Smith College and Berklee School of Music have decided to be fully online for the fall.

Georgetown and American also amend their plans to start the semester online. Georgetown sounds like they might move back in person if conditions improve (that seems like more trouble than it is worth), but American has stated that they are fully online for the fall.

And Johns Hopkins joins the crowd.

One big deal in that article [thank you, Treading] is that tuition will go down by 10%! Nothing like a crisis to spur competition.
That's not even wrong!

You're welcome! American also announced a 10% reduction in tuition. They are calling it the "AU Community Care Fall Discount".  AKA their new retention plan for the fall and future semesters.

Drew University joins the fully online crowd.

The article also mentions The College of New Jersey, Dickinson College, Georgetown University, Pitzer College, Princeton University and Rutgers University as being fully online for the fall as well.

Yes, Princeton announced today that they're online: https://www.princeton.edu/news/2020/08/07/fall-2020-update-undergraduate-education-be-fully-remote. My guess is that most or all of the rest of the Ivies follow.

Columbia is one of the least isolated campuses in the country, and the most difficult Ivy to isolate. They are fully on line in the fall. A Columbia student I know will nevertheless return from the boondocks to Manhattan in the fall. That may be relatively common behavior at places where interactions with other students are a big part of the experience. Their decision may influenced by having already had Covid before leaving Manhattan in the spring.
