Good morning!

QB today, yesterday, and the day before. Last word was flail (I think).

Twofer today, and also the official one a couple of days ago.

Happy solving!

ciao_yall

Morning!

QBw2LL, last word bailiff. LB got a nudge for ultrabasic-choux.

Happy solving!

Good morning!

QBABM yesterday, last word flail. Genius with pangram today, only a few words to go.

LB: I had the "official" churlish-hatbox. No solution yet today—congratulations, Langue_doc, on yours!

Happy puzzling!

Good morning!

Past genius with pangram so far.  Just a couple words to go as well.  Yesterday we had team QB.  I needed help with bailiff, falafel, naif

No luck on LB yesterday! Congrats on your solutions!

Happy solving!

ciao_yall

Morning!

QBw2LL, last word gorgon. LB got a nudge for astronomical-lynx.

Completely missed connections but did get a 2fer already this morning.

Happy solving!

Good morning!

Pangram and above genius, but am mystified as to why a perfectly legit couple of words that would be familiar to high schoolers weren't accepted. There are bound to be complaints, so I'm staying out of the fray.

Last word was porno.

astronomic/calyx--saw the latter right away, and then looked for the former.

Went to my usual haunt for birding. Saw a bald eagle and a turkey vulture overhead on my way to the preserve. Just stood in a few places listening to the various birds singing. I usually run into people who I know from bird walks in other hotspots, so it was good to have brief chats with a couple of birding buddies. Then there are the usual binoculars/scope laden people who stop to chat and compare notes on what we've seen.

Happy solving!

Good afternoon!

QBwSBB to find purr, guru, and wrung, my last word.  Today I'm at genius with one of the two pangrams.

LB: I found astronomic-calyx with a hint, then saw astronomical-lynx. I have a 2fer today.

Langue_doc, the Facebook Connecticut Audubon site has people posting pictures of bald eagles every day. One would think that one is roosting in every tree in the state! None of them are gracing the trees around our condo complex, though. It's always such a thrill to see one.

Happy puzzling!

Good morning!

Got to genius with the pangrams or a little beyond so far.  Yesterday I got to QBABM with last words purr, pronoun.

No luck on LB again! Congrats on your solutions!

Langue_doc, sounds like a nice birding outing.  I saw your post about having some good weekend weather as well, which is wonderful.  It's warm here but was too windy to sit outside this morning, unfortunately.  We've had some very chatty lesser goldfinches and finches lately.  And there was some brouhaha involving a bunch of sparrows in a bush yesterday.

Happy solving!

Good morning!

Genius, but no pangram. Missed heeltap. Heeltap?!

My usual vent about the idiosyncracies of the bee, rather those of one individual deciding which words are legit are which ones aren't: naphtha and the pangram naphthalene were out, but ethane, heptane, nepenthe, and the archaic neath were in!

grandpop/plaything

Happy solving!

ciao_yall

Morning!

QBwH for heptane, nepenthe, heptathlete, heeltap. Agreed, Langue_doc  - naphthalene was one of the first words I saw.  LB photoing-grandly.

Happy solving!

ab_grp

Good morning!

Almost to genius, but only one pangram so far.  Yesterday we needed help for nepenthe.  I remember that one now from a long time ago! Agreed on the words not accepted for some reason.

For LB I had panhandling-gyration.  Congrats on your solutions! Lots of variety again!

Happy solving!

QuoteWill Shortz, New York Times Crossword Editor, Says He Is Recovering From a Stroke
Mr. Shortz, who has been with The Times for three decades and also hosts NPR's "Sunday Puzzle," said on Sunday that he had a stroke in February but was recovering.

Just saw the above in the NYT.

I recall chatting with Will at the NYT booth during one of the Open Street events. I had expected to see a much older person, as he had just taken over from his predecessor, and blurted out a comment to the effect that he was quite different from what I had expected. He was gracious enough to laugh it off and also sign my copy of the crossword--it being a Sunday, I had taken the magazine along to work on the crossword during the subway ride. Those were the days with all kinds of interesting booths along the city streets!

Will, sending you good wishes for a speedy recovery!

Good morning!

QBwLOH (lots of help) to find heeltap, heptane, ethane, and—new to me—pentathlete and heptathlete, my last two words.  Today I just found the second pangram and don't have far to go.

LB: Like ciao_yall, I also had photoing-grandly. No 2fer yet today.

Happy puzzling!

ab_grp

Langue_doc, thanks for sharing that news about Will Shortz.  I'm so sorry to hear it and had no idea! I'm glad he is recovering.  Cool that you got to meet him.  He's quite the interesting individual.  I haven't met him but have just read a bit about him.

Finally got the second pangram and to genius.

I also meant to mention that I saw in the Games email today that there's apparently a game called Strands that is in beta? https://www.nytimes.com/2024/03/04/crosswords/strands-word-search-game.html  I plan to try to check it out today.  As you can see from the link, it's a word search game.

Langue_doc

Good morning!

Pangram and above genius. Missed cotangent, ecotage, geotag.

goths/silverware

ab_grp, thanks for the link. Played it last night, but didn't find it all that exciting. I still miss Digits.

Happy solving!
