Will there be a Spring Break at Your place?

Spring break isn't really a thing here, but yes, there will be a spring reading week. We're all online (apart from nursing and one or two other subjects).

Apparently we're very likely to push the start of the winter semester back one week. Seems late to be deciding that, but whatever. Some of my colleagues are inexplicably put out by the prospect but I, for one, plan to enjoy the hell out of my extra week off.
I know it's a genus.

Big Urban College has decided to keep Spring Break.

Spring break cancelled; start and end dates are the same; they've added odd days off (usually T/W) for "mental health".  It just means students will take breaks as usual (either zoom in from Florida or skip classes altogether) and faculty can't take a vacation til May.

Just got the official word that Spring quarter will be "remote" as well.  Cases are skyrocketing in our state (and county) so we'll be lucky to be in person in Fall.

Expecting similar word about spring any day now.  Summer and fall are a total crapshoot at this point.

We are breaking records with case counts and ICU usage, Spring Break has been cancelled for months now, but our system is pushing an on-campus presence even though students are overwhelmingly choosing online sections rather than in-person.

I assume this push is to generate auxiliary revenue.
It's terrible writing, used to obfuscate the fact that the authors actually have nothing to say.

Yes. I'm not sure why, other than to allow rest for students and faculty. Nobody can go anywhere.

I'm 100% certain we'll be online in Summer.  If nothing else, because we actually saw an INCREASE in summer enrollment when we made all summer classes online in 2020.  Not having to pay to be on or near campus makes summer credits pretty cost effective.

My university deleted the calendar and important semester dates page from their university website three days after fall final exams ended. It is still gone. I have no idea whether to use the dates from the old version (via Internet Wayback Machine) or to anticipate a change to the schedule. Ugh.

Our academic calendar has not changed (it's published several years in advance). We are still having Spring break because, according to admin, our students do not go on vacation during Spring break, they work instead.  I am curious to see if they polled students about their preference/plans, as this decision was theoretically made for their benefit.

Did you get any notification about this? This sounds hugely problematic.

No. We had a survey about Spring Break halfway through fall semester, so when the page disappeared, I assumed they were revising the schedule. But now it has been gone for a month. I am hoping the dates will be clarified in our faculty meetings next week and posted for students shortly thereafter, but who knows? The Fall schedule was revised (to omit fall break and all other days off) three weeks before classes began, so they should be announcing something soon. Fingers crossed.

I'm delighted to see that our spring calendar is finally published on the website. We still have Spring Break, as well as a few days off for a major partying holiday on a separate week. Students have lots of opportunities to leave/party, catch COVID, and return to campus. But at least I can finally enter semester dates into my syllabus!

We were just told that "Fall classes will return to in-person instruction!"*

*with small caveat about state/county/local case numbers & vaccination availability

I don't know when/where they expect all of our students to be vaccinated, but the county isn't done vaccinating all our health-care workers, let alone offering it to otherwise healthy young adults that don't have to work outside their homes.

But Fall is a long ways away so, maybe?
