Received an R&R today from a good journal, on a paper that has been rejected more times than I care to count.  This will be a secondary priority in November, and the top priority in December.

Congratulations!

I just submitted a letter of intent for a grant. I always get nervous pressing the "submit" button in case I later realize that I, like, missed an entire section that I was supposed to include or didn't explain something well enough or something. So I'm trying to put this out of my mind and focus on other things for the rest of the day.

Hurray!

I have been experiencing a little anxiety over my two accepted pieces that are due to come out "this Fall" which is pretty much over given the weather where I live. A colleague who has an article accepted in the same issue already went through proofs and copyediting last week with a deadline of this week. I have not heard from the editor yet, but am refraining from bugging hu. I just worry I will get the request with little turnaround time since my colleague had a strict deadline last week already.

Additionally, the same colleague and I received an acceptance in another journal for a different project, and it has been five weeks since the editor mentioned we would hear from the copyeditor. Both of these journals have only one issue a year, so I know our work was not forgotten since they have not published anything else in 2020. I just need to be patient.

Congratulations on your accepted articles, darkstarrynight! It is hard to wait so long for them to appear but so much better than if they were at earlier stages in the publication process.

I drafted a section of a grant this morning. Now on to grading and meetings for the rest of the day.

Okok. For real today: finish one of the two remaining referee reports.
I know it's a genus.

Done! If I have time and the energy later, I'll start the second report. This is actually a pair of papers (parts 1 and 2), and they're both excellent, so it's not too hard.
I know it's a genus.

Parasaurolophus

Today, I start and finish Report 2. And then I'm done with the things I owe, and can do the other things I need to do instead!
I know it's a genus.

I read this thread a lot but have never contributed, in part because this semester I'm teaching one more class than usual, and everything is online, which is proving to be a lot of work.

But reading week has just ended, and I wrote an article, the whole dang thing from beginning to end, 5k words. (It was in response to a CFP for shorter papers, which is about all I can manage, and it's really just an extended version of a conference paper I didn't get to present because of Covid.) It might be terrible (I haven't even reread it yet), but it's written!

And all you who are getting writing done -- you have my admiration.

That's fantastic! Well done!

Finished the difficult R&R and sent it off. So 1/2 of my October goals done. But 1/2 is better than none.
Happy halloween everyone.

Done!

So, for the month:

    • Finish Book Proposal revisions
    • Write commentary
    • Write one report on my activities
    • Work on Co-Authored Paper 1

Plus three referee reports!

There's more work to be done on Co-Authored Paper 1, however. Much more!

traductio

I'm reading through my draft article now. Because I wrote it quickly, it has every single one of my writing tics in abundance. Otherwise, it'll do fine. A friend of mine once told me I didn't need to hit a home run every time. Doubles are good, too. This one's a double.

You are awesome, traductio! If you can put together 5,000 words for a call, that is really impressive to me. I did give into my anxiety and wrote an editor yesterday for one of the accepted articles, on the premise that my colleague had already submitted hu's proof and I figured I missed communication. The editor responded immediately that my manuscript is still with the copyeditor and I had not missed any e-mails from hu. Whew! I might wait another two weeks to bug the other journal's editor if I do not hear something, since I think two months after acceptance and short time left before the end of the year will warrant an e-mail (since the article is due out in the only 2020 issue of the journal).

Happy Halloween!

mamselle

I got more good reading and writing done today.

I also just found out I'm getting severance from the non-profit job that's been driving me nuts (translate: delayed combat pay!)

I'll bank it and use it for two month's expenses once the job itself ends in late December, and see if I can get more writing done.

I'll keep teaching my private music students, but it will free up all that other writing/editing/handholding time that's kept me tied up through the week.

Feels more hopeful!

You're too kind. I'm usually the tortoise rather than the hare when I write -- 5,000 words in three days is possible only because I had lined everything up well in advance (and it's material where I know the background well). But I am rather pleased with myself!

Don't think of it that way--think of it as one article in one month, which is amazing regardless of how pre-prepared you were!

For myself, I have to send back proofs today, so am proof-reading.
