July Paper was accepted this morning in a very good journal. Yay! That gives me 8 for 2020.

Ooo, congrats!! Seeing this news made me happy this morning.

I spent my morning giving another student comments on an empirical paper, different from the one I wrote about above, that I also think is pretty ready to submit. We are aiming high for both papers and I expect rejections for both, meaning that I will be pleasantly surprised if that doesn't happen and ready to move on to the next journal on our list if it does.

Hip hip hooray! I somehow got more people to do their part on the grant manuscript, so my aim for the end of October may actually be realistic! I need to finish my part too, but I feel motivated now.

My subfield co-author has been understanding about my slowness on that starter draft. I attended a virtual conference last week and now am drowning in advising meetings when I am not teaching. I put that on my schedule for next week though and hope to make more progress.

As for the second half of the originally rejected mega-manuscript, we had our first team meeting last night between my co-author and new grad student that is joining us. He seems very excited even though he did not know much about the project besides that it related to his interest area. That one should be fun.

Thanks, everyone!

But I'd like to plug away at Co-Authored Paper 1.

Got a 560-word chunk of explanation done. I also got a new referee request this morning (the third one this month! I kinda thought I might be done for the year...), and I read the paper because it was short. It's very bad, so it'll be a quick report to write--and better that I write a kind report quickly than that someone else get the assignment, dither forever, and tear the author a new one.
I know it's a genus.

Today:

  • Small final edits on July Paper, plus submission of final draft.
  • More work on Co-Authored Paper 1
I know it's a genus.

Only did a bit on the second because I got exhausted answering the million billion emails in my inbox this morning, and dealing with various teaching-related things.

So: not super happy about it, but whatever, it's good enough for today.

Nice!  Congratulations!

Still plugging away at writing.  October manuscript still on track for submission in the next couple of weeks.

Today:

  • Read friend's draft paper.
  • Work on November Commentary.

Did some reading today for the paper with co-author and student team. Everything else will have to wait because I have advising meetings all day. I blocked out time this week for the other projects, and I really hope I will stick to those and not move that around on my calendar again.

I spent hours on hold today trying to resolve a tax issue (which is not yet resolved, even after all that time), and then some more time on hold trying to resolve a different issue also related to finances. Bureaucracy is crazy-making and makes me feel like banging my head on my desk sometimes. So, not too much progress on writing, but I did draft a grant section on the intellectual merits of one of my proposed aims. This grant is extremely slow going because I'm writing it in between other things, but it's nice to see some progress happening.

Blech. Did some of the first, none of the later. It was a bad day.

Finished responding my subfield colleague's comments and added some lit into our draft, and sent it back to hu. Tomorrow I blocked off a lot of time to finish the manuscript for the grant project. I am still waiting on two other people to do their sections, and am committed to trying to get it into the journal before November. I spoke with the editor last night and hu is very interested in this manuscript, so I am motivated!

That is a very encouraging sign from the editor. Congrats!

I just sent a post-doc comments on a letter of intent for a grant. I think we have one more round on this, and then it needs to be done, since the deadline is coming up in a few weeks.

Awesome news!

Just gonna try to squeeze in some time to work on my commentary today. it's already pretty late in the day, though, so we'll see how it goes.

Snuck some decent work in at the end of the day. Gonna try to sneak in enough to more or less finish it during my office hour tomorrow, but that's probably unrealistic.

Still have to finish three referee reports in the next week and a half. Happily, they won't be too hard: two will be glowing, and one a kind but very firm rejection.
