I am getting this thread started in 2021!

I forgot to post yesterday, but I was really productive in my last day of the year. I completed an article review and finished my revisions to the manuscript due this coming week. Now I will wait for my co-authors to take a look and give me the go ahead to submit. My article that was due out before the end of the year which I was sent as a PDF several weeks ago was not released online by the journal. The web site shows a title for its only 2020 issue but the link is not active. It counts as a 2020 publication but I cannot share it quite yet. Whenever it pops up, I will be happy.

January 2021 Goals

  • Submit R&R due this week (it is ready on my end!)
  • Submit book chapter due 1/15 (it is ready on my end!)
  • Finish data collection for new study with subfield colleague
  • Start new study with college friend - our data request from an organization got approved last week within hours!
  • Finish second manuscript from initially rejected manuscript in summer with my co-authors - we meet this week
  • Return to recently rejected manuscript to make revisions from feedback and submit elsewhere

Thank you for starting this thread! Here is my current list:

- Provide feedback on paper for Post-Doc #1.
- Provide feedback on paper for Grad Student #1.
- Finalize chapter draft.
- Provide feedback on new experiment for Post-Doc #2.
- Provide feedback on different new experiment for Grad Student #2.
- Submit letter of recommendation for Grad Student #2.
- Submit referee report.
- Manage special issue proofs.
- Prep conference talk.
- Prep invited lecture.
- Make progress on grant that I've been drafting on and off since the summer.
- Make progress on newer grant that I just started thinking through over the break.

That is probably too much for one month, but I will do at least some of this! For today, I commented on the introduction of Post-Doc #1's paper.

nonsensical, That is quite a list! I am intrigued. There is so much you are doing to support students and postdocs, which is awesome. I am feeling inspired. I am taking it easy today and tomorrow, but Sunday I plan to work on preparing my spring classes.

Sun_Worshiper, the public writing projects sound fun!

January goals:

  • Finish January R&R (due the 15th)
  • Write 4-8 more Book Sections (BS)
  • Write referee report
  • April conference organization (ugh)
  • November conference organization (ugh)
  • Touch up and resubmit Rejected Paper (stretch)

By this time next year, I need to deliver a book manuscript. Ugh, we'll see. By then, I'd like to have started working on the book I actually want to write, and also have a draft of Co-Authored Paper 2 circulating (but that requires me to pin down my co-author).
I know it's a genus.

Thank you! The list is probably longer than I can accomplish in a month, but that's the stuff that's currently on my list to respond to, and it's helpful for me to see it all written out like that. I really enjoy the people in my lab and think their work is neat, so it's a pleasure to work with them. Also, all of this work is collaborative - everyone's name is on the paper, so it's supporting myself as much as them. But I've really enjoyed working with them, especially when their ideas differ from mine or they think of an experiment that I wouldn't have thought to do.

Today, I gave feedback on the methods and results of the first paper from that long list. Just the discussion section left now, which I may or may not get to on Monday. That will be everyone's first "work day" back, and I am a little scared about the number of e-mails I expect to receive then, but maybe my reprieve will continue for a bit longer.

Started pulling data together from the listing done over the past 3 weeks today.

Shortly, I will have more time open up.

I'm getting ready to think about how to structure my time and my work to make the most of both.

Finished the discussion today and sent my post-doc the comments. Feeling very accomplished right now.

All of my co-authors were working on the manuscript today; it was incredible. I submitted it tonight, four days early! I also collected data for my new study today, which continues to be fascinating. I have one interview with a participant tomorrow, and then a virtual conference will take up my time the rest of the week. I am really excited though because I should be able to submit the book chapter due next week soon. We sent it to the authors of the previous chapter in the edited book to ensure no overlap, and today they acknowledged my request to hear from them before the end of the week (sent them the file several weeks ago so this is a relief). I am excited to cross more stuff off of my list! Also, I sent my first manuscript acceptance to an author as a journal editor today! I could not help but think how that might be a great way for the author to start the year.

Congrats, darkstarrynight!

I spent some time yesterday working on the literature review for newer grant. Turning my attention to some papers today.

Also, the fora look wonky to me; there are a bunch of error messages showing up at the top of the screen. Is that a thing that's happening for other people? I'll take a look at the other sub-fora when I have a chance to see if this question has been asked somewhere else already, but I figured I'd check here in case any of you all are having this issue as well (this is really the only thread I have time to check during work time a lot of the time).

It looks wonky to me, too. I thought it was just me.

It's a known php issue, we've been posting about it on the log-in reporting thread, but the goofy parts don't prevent posting or reading, etc.

Eigen is backed up at the moment and will work on it at some point.

There's a reddit option (also posted on that thread) but people are pretty much just posting here and going on with it until it can be fixed.

R&R submitted. Now I can spend the rest of the day doomscrolling.

mamselle

Did you post that before or after you found out how much doom there was to scroll??

Curious minds want to know...
