I took care of proofs for a book chapter over the weekend. This week I'll spend some time finalizing my work on a paper that I thought was dead but, thanks to my plucky co-author, will not stay in the ground. I hope to have it under review by this time next week. Once this paper is submitted I can begin putting together two conference papers, both of which should be drafted by mid-April (data collection ongoing for both, but I have enough to start putting together the papers). I want to get started soon, because the semester is lopsided for me, with the first half being relatively light on teaching and the second half being quite heavy.

Congratulations! Nobody likes proofing!

For my part, I'm just gonna get this other report done today. Leave the real work for Wednesday-on.
I know it's a genus.

Done, plus $0.67 worth of freelance copy editing.

Today, I should start work on drafting a new book section.

I opted to nap instead. Oh well.

I think I can finish my spring course preparation before the end of the day (which is truly a miracle)! Yesterday my writing team met to discuss how to finalize the manuscript. It is possible to submit by our self-imposed deadline of January 31st, but I think we might get into February since I sent them entire book to consider relevant to our topic (that I need to read as well).

Managed to squeeze out 500 words for a new book section today. That's good enough for me!

Today I'll try to finish up the draft of the book section I started last week. If I'm lucky, I'll start another after.

Today, I'm finally getting around to doing final edits on an article that I started many years ago. This article is a classic case of a failure-to-launch project.

Well, I did something. I didn't finish last week's section (did a tiny bit of work and got tired/bored), but I did start another and got 500ish words in.

January goals:

  • Finish and resubmit R&R
  • Continue data collection on project #1
  • Continue data collection on project #2
  • Submit manuscript that co-author raised from the dead

Stretch goals:

  • Make progress on papers that draw from project #1 and/or #2 (mentioned above)
  • Do some public writing (one or two op-eds I've been thinking about)

I've accomplished all of these goals, although I won't be done with data collection or the accompanying papers for quite a while yet.

On the public writing: I wrote something up and have been shopping it around a little. One nibble from a major outlet, but seems like it won't work out. A little frustrating, but it has been nice to play with a different type of writing.

Congrats, Sun_Worshiper! That is great news!

Today was the start of the semester. I managed to work on my team's manuscript a little bit, and also tried my first use of Microsoft Word 365 to transcribe a recorded interview, which was successful! I have many more to do over time, but I was pleased for getting some stuff done today outside of teaching. I also submitted a proposal for an upcoming virtual conference, with a promise from the organizer that our panel would have a live slot, so that is good news!
