NSF course buyout?

Is it possible to shift faculty summer salary to a course-buyout on an existing NSF grant? Scope and time spent on project shouldn't be affected. I am dreading having to teach one of my courses again next year, and for my mental health this would be tremendously helpful and worth the effective salary cut.

It should be, assuming that your department and university are ok with that. Not sure if you need to "officially" re-budget though.

Usually you can, hours in a summer month and hours associated with a course buyout are usually different. So the $ amount will be different. Your institution will have the exact hours calculated for each of those, but your effort % will change slightly. Well, in my experience anyways.
