More concise disciplines seem to be called for now, there are a few things on the horizon....

  1. Q article - revive, revise, and submit to new possible journal

  2. M bklt - no reason but it seems to want to be done, so do it.

  3. ChdSM article - probable home awaits it, send it there.

  4. OCBG bk - transcribe notes, organize, get 2 chpts tog, send out

  5. Tour vids - finish, post, and announce, trying a new thing.

Also, for others:

  A. JD vid - edit, insert/PPt, other visuals yet to come?

  B. MJ Add. list  - finish, send in, results s/b vis. soon.

Think I'll try the octo/faith copy box thing again, so:

Quote
  1. Q article - revive, revise, and submit to new possible journal
[ x ] - Looked up submission info, found old files, pondering new approach
[  ] - Order book, re-read past articles, update lit rvw.

  2. M bklt - no reason but it seems to want to be done, so do it.
[ x ] - Cover drafted, music tx'd, sent to reader for checking
          [ x ] - Note to those involved for permissions/credits if needed
[  ] - Finish commentary text, prep as .pdf in one document

  5. Tour vids - finish, post, and announce, trying a new thing.
          [ x ] - Started all pages, 2/3 done, maybe
[  ] - Do the rest for #1, post to channel, notify adoring public, see if any nibbles
[  ] - If nibbles for #1, do #2, #3 as well, post, notify, consider follow up options?

I need to make progress on quite a few fronts this month. Book sections might take a back seat:

  • Start July R&R
  • 1 Referee Report
  • Finish New Co-Authored Project (I'm bailing out a friend on his book chapter contribution)
  • Start work on Collaboration 3
  • Start work on August Chapter

Stretch:
  • Write one new book section
  • Write a second new book section

I think it can be done. I'm finding my feet post-hatchling.
I know it's a genus.

mamselle

Thanking of you, the hatchling, and all the complications!

Pity they don't pop out ready to type.

Here we go, June! I had an article published yesterday which is exciting. I cannot wait for the next one coming out this summer, as it is incredibly timely with current events so I think people will read it!

Short-Term

  • Review 2 journal manuscripts, 1 as guest reviewer due 6/25 and 1 as editorial board member due 7/1
  • Finish special issue manuscript due 6/15 ASAP
  • Analyze data for project with subfield colleague who already finished initial analysis without me because I am behind, manuscript due in September
  • Develop manuscript reviewer training for new editorial board members before end of the month

Other Goals

  • Continue data collection with first-year colleague in my department - not my top priority
  • Work on sabbatical application and research goals for it - due in Fall
  • Continue long-term project that has stalled because of pandemic (probably my sabbatical goal)
  • Make small edits to accepted article with former student due at end of summer

I boosted my friend's confidence and he's going to finish his project himself, so that's one scratched off the list!

No research today, since I have to prepare my teaching demo for the dummy interview.

Well, not from what I hear (I'll never actually know...!)

All good thoughts for the presentation tomorrow.

I've realized I'm re-adjusting, from the mindset that plans performed presentations and PowerPoints, to whatever different frame of mind it is that's needed to do publications.

I've gotten fairly decent at the former (strains arm, patting self on back) and at writing acceptable abstracts at the drop of a hat, but it's harder somehow to imagine a reading audience than it is a listening one, especially having hit so many recent roadblocks in those endeavors--and for now, I'm deciding to focus on those rather than on more presentations, since I'm backlogged on getting those written up.

And I've had academic work published, and I've written for other focused situations, so I'm not a newbie in that sense. But creating pieces out of whole cloth is feeling a bit amorphous now that I have time to do so. (Suggestions welcome!)

Anyway, let's see:

  B. MJ Add. list  - finish, send in, results s/b vis. soon.
          [ x ] - Most done before
[  ] - Finish the list, send out

And two weird additions:

  C. FD oral history project, contact participants and supporters and put 'em together
[  ] - Write to 6 possibly interested archives so we plan the work in a way it will be acceptable at the end
                { x } 2 written to; 4 to go
[  ] - Connect with potential participants, set up triaged lists per email/proposal draft
[  ] - Zoom meeting, discuss all options (including no interest, drop it)
[  ] - Grant options, discover and draft proposal

  D. ED project, might be a lot like C. above, same ideas, goals
[  ] - Write to same 6 possibly interested archives so we plan the work in a way it will be acceptable at the end
{  } Identify order and start writing
[  ] - Connect with potential participants, set up triaged lists per email/proposal draft
[  ] - Zoom meeting, discuss all options (including no interest, drop it)
[  ] - Grant options, discover and draft proposal

And finish up final N/P stuff so it's off my plate:
[  ] - Dontn ltrs, lists, and spreadsheet tallies
                {  } Do draft text,
                {  } Do merge files
{  } Merge and send n.p. to create final copy, mail
          [  ] - Figure out why dispersmt entry didn't take, re-do, tell n.p.
[  ] - Any last-moment fixes before they ask for all psswds t/b chngd
[  ] - Drpbx files done, ready to share, sent, off my list

Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding.

Reprove not a scorner, lest they hate thee: rebuke the wise, and they will love thee.

Done, and answered some emails. That's probably it for me for today, unless I read a bit.

It went well. But I hasten to add that the outcome is a foregone conclusion--it's a totally fake search conducted to satisfy HR.

I worked a little on the manuscript due 6/15 but I need to do a lot more tomorrow. I am nervous because of time constraints but my co-authors and I are writing up a storm. Stay tuned!

Just including the first part for now...I set up a time frame and it worked, at least today.

Goofiness with the still-dragging-on N/P transfer has arisen (somewhat expected...) but I'm determined not to let it take over.
