I'll try either the August chapter or Collaboration 3 today. Probably the former.
I know it's a genus.

I moved nearly 1200 research-related photos off my phone and onto my hard drives (two for backup).

More to do, but at least there's more space there now.

Congratulations! I recently had a paper conditionally accepted subject to adding in a requested analysis. The analysis, hmm, weakened my claims a little bit.  Not a lot, but a little. I spent the next month anxiously avoiding email as much as possible because I just knew, in my heart of hearts, that the editor was going to write back and say, 'well, now that I've seen this . . .'

I started getting anxious the day after I sent in the revisions Of course the editor would look at them immediately and make the decision the next morning! No way would he send it back to the reviewer who had requested the additional analysis, or put in his to-do queue to get to later, or consult the associate editor, who also had to put it in her to-do queue. No I would get that rejection the very next day! Or if not then, the day after.

A month later they accepted the paper and all was well. It's such a relief! I definitely bounced in my seat too.

Congrats, ergative!

Today I cleaned up the R&R manuscript I got from the first author. My next task from the reviewers was to add in more international literature. I requested a lot of articles through interlibrary loan, which is very fast here. I already got half of them so I need to read those and see what applies to our manuscript. I am trying to wrap up revisions as soon as I can so we can get this in before the deadline 8/8.

Did the former. Progress is still slow, but there's time.

These are summer goals (some will probably spill into fall), so I don't plan to get all of them done by the end of July:

  • Finish draft of paper #1 with colleagues and submit to journal
  • Finish draft of paper #2 and submit to journal (or figure out how to revamp it, if I decide I'm not happy with it yet while finalizing draft)
  • Revise paper #3, which was rejected in June, and submit to journal
  • Make progress on paper #4 with colleague
  • Start putting together dataset for paper #5 with colleague
  • Go through IRB for paper #6 with colleagues and make some progress on the framework/data collection
  • Start outlining invited book chapter

I submitted paper #3 this morning.

I'm hoping to finish the IRB in July and also perhaps to make a little progress on paper #4 (finish the outline and send it to colleague for his two cents).

There are some delays on paper #1 (co-author moving slowly), so it probably won't be ready for submission until August.

Nice work!

Today, I'm plugging away at August Chapter.
I know it's a genus.

Wow, I had my first media interview (virtually) with a national news outlet regarding my research! I was really nervous but the reporter complimented my lighting and we had a good conversation. My article connected to this is due out any day now, so I am really anxious and excited once the journal releases the issue. It ties to current events and as I mentioned in previous posts, people might actually read it! If it gets some news coverage, perhaps more people will read it!

Today I got more articles from the library so I added them into the manuscript revision. I am waiting on two more articles. Once I get those and read them, I can finalize the revision. I have already updated all responses to reviewer comments. I feel quite relieved that I am making progress on both manuscripts with impending deadlines.

Did it, but I'm not really feeling it yet.

Busy day ahead without much time for stuff, but I'll try to do a bit of August Chapter.

I got another article from the library today so I added that into the manuscript and updated our responses to reviewer comments. There is one more article I am waiting on before I finalize my revisions.

My subfield colleague just emailed me to ask if I want hu to work on the manuscript before hu travels without internet/phone service for a week. Of course I said yes - do what you can so I can work on it while you travel. I cannot work on it when hu has the document since hu will not use a shared document. I am hopeful hu can do something before hu leaves!

The deadline I put on my research assistant posting to graduate students is tomorrow, and no one has applied. It is a really nice scholarship for pretty minimal hours per week, so I am surprised at the lack of interest. Since I reached out to any graduate student in our department (which covers a lot of different fields), my chair suggested we next consider hiring an undergraduate student from the college (my department does not have undergraduate programs). I hope someone will help me with my big project or it will take me years (but I suppose my sabbatical application for next year can still include this project as ongoing)!
