Adding on to my post earlier today - I got a R&R decision on the special issue manuscript we submitted in June! One reviewer said it was the first time in over three decades that they had no recommendations and "accept as is!" However, our friend Reviewer #2 had other plans for us. Nevertheless, I think we can get the revisions done, though we were only given three weeks to do so. Woohoo!

Busy day ahead without much time for stuff, but I'll try to do a bit of August Chapter.

Did it in the morning.
I know it's a genus.

Congrats! Great work. Good luck with R2 and the revisions!

Thank you! I am celebrating the small wins (though a completely happy reviewer is a big win)!

I moved nearly 1200 research-related photos off my phone and onto my hard drives (two for backup).

More to do, but at least there's more space there now.

M.

Still need to do these, but have nearly finished 8 very dense Ppt slides for a WordThread-like upload on YTube sometime in the nearer-rather-than-later (I hope) future.

Opened a text article file, fixed a few footnotes, and fell asleep last night, more to do there.

I have some editorial work to do today.

More footnotes done, teaching in 1/2 hour.

Then dinner and folk dance at 7:30.

A good day.

These are summer goals (some will probably spill into fall), so I don't plan to get all of them done by the end of July:

  • Finish draft of paper #1 with colleagues and submit to journal
  • Finish draft of paper #2 and submit to journal (or figure out how to revamp it, if I decide I'm not happy with it yet while finalizing draft)
  • Revise paper #3, which was rejected in June, and submit to journal
  • Make progress on paper #4 with colleague
  • Start putting together dataset for paper #5 with colleague
  • Go through IRB for paper #6 with colleagues and make some progress on the framework/data collection
  • Start outlining invited book chapter

I spent some time on paper #4 today and got a draft of the outline to my coauthor. Hoping to get into the zone on this and/or paper #5 (which I'm hoping to make at least a little progress on this week) in August.

I also got the IRB submitted, but review process still under way.

Goals:

1) Ppt:  More slides done, ref's found, streamlined/cleaned-up flow of narrative line.

2) Article: More footnotes edited, ref's found, more MS located online and comparisons made.

3) Do N/P entry and figure out how to mount online files to pass off to them

No students today (two in Calif. for the month) so all day is open!

Write that script

This is actually an update from last week, but man, that script was a thing of beauty when I got done with it, and deserves to be struck off the list.

Am currently looking at submissions venues. Journal 1 doesn't take LaTeX, only Word, and I've already posted somewhere here about how much I hate that. Journal 2 is an Elsevier outlet, and I don't love Elsevier and don't want to publish there if I can avoid it. Journal 3 is brand new open-access subject-specific outlet that is part of a broader venture that I support and want to contribute to, but it's so new that I don't want to send my Big Work there. Journals 4 and 5 have already rejected previous versions of this work. Hmmmm.

Short Term Goals

  • Finish data analysis with subfield colleague on project (manuscript due 9/1)
  • Finish R&R edits with two co-authors due 8/8
  • Hire a student to support my new project/start working on project finally

Long Term Goals

  • Work on sabbatical application
  • Work on project with new colleague (we had dinner last night and agreed it is not urgent to work on this, whew)

I finished my revisions on the manuscript due 8/8 yesterday so now it is back with the other two authors to review and submit soon. Subfield colleague went on hu's disconnected trip and sent me back manuscript with some additions. I need to work on this over the next week before hu returns. The manuscript is due 9/1 but we both have to get ready for the Fall semester and have other manuscript deadlines.

I also had one student apply for my research assistant position after 5:00 PM yesterday, which was the deadline. The student appears to be a good fit for the project! I am speaking with one reference tomorrow then plan to get hu hired so they can get the Fall scholarship processing!

I also have been thinking more about my sabbatical application. I will be working on that soon as well.

The R&R I got on Tuesday requires a revised manuscript to be submitted by 8/20. One co-author told me hu cannot work on it until 8/17, and the other has not responded to my email. I will likely do the bulk of the work, but fortunately the revisions are relatively minor.

On another note, I am anxious because my latest article still has not come out and the journal promised the issue would be released "before the end of July." I hope that is before the weekend because I assume the publisher will not be working then.

300 hard-fought words, plus lots of emailing. Not bad!

Can't say that I started putting together the dataset for paper #5, but I did work on the lit review and framework today, which is all key to thinking through the data collection. I'm expecting to spend quite a bit of time on this paper in August.
