Got a rejection on Sunday night, but with substantive feedback. Our team will take the feedback into consideration and rework the manuscript into something more narrow than what we did so we address the issues reviewers mentioned before we submit to another journal. I feel optimistic still. I also now have the information about updating a book chapter for a second edition of a book that I did not contribute to previously, which is due 12/1.

I was notified by my colleague that I was nominated for the college-wide research award (given every two years). I was nominated two years ago, and the person who won then apparently nominated me this time. I started putting my materials together for that, since my "packet" is due next week.

Congratulations on the nomination!

I've had a busy morning, but more on the chapter later, if I can.
I know it's a genus.

I'm going to go ahead and submit an abstract for a conference I promised myself I wouldn't participate in this year in order not to have it interrupt my work right when I'm in the midst of other things.

It's on a topic that keeps coming up and I keep having to explain about, and I wrote a reply to a presenter in the last conference that she apparently liked.

She asked if I were going to do it, at the time, and...

...vanity of vanities, all is truly vanity.

(Oh, well, I hit a spot on the Ppts where I could take a breather for two days and then come back to it. Plus when I looked at the comments I'd sent, and some other stuff I've written down for my 'splinter file,' before, I could see how it would be fairly easy to turn them into something reasonable, so...)

Many encroachments encroached, but I finished all my primary source reading.

Got second round on #3 done, so RGS can send them off to the other co-authors.
Got 8 done over the weekend.
Did IDP with grad student 1 today, in which I accomplished the bugging her about 5 and 6.
Tomorrow: 9 which just got added to my list, plus a review I'm over-due on if I can swing it.

1. Big collaborative paper: final round of revisions and finally submit the sucker
2. Grad student #2's R&R #2 revisions (today!)
3. Recently graduated student's R&R revisions (did round 2, off to co-authors)
4. Get recently graduated student's other paper submitted (bug co-authors to get us their comments)
5. Get grad student #1's R&R resubmitted (bug her about progress on this)
6. Get CSS paper submitted (bug grad student #1 about discussion draft progress)
7. Start new paper with favorite collaborator and her student
8. Comments on other collaborator's R&R
9. Comments on other-other collaborator's paper

Woke up to an article rejection this morning... oh well, on to the next journal!

Slowly cranking up the gears to get this abstract written.

Finding more notes on the topic than I remembered I'd written, so there's definitely enough to go on.

Teaching in 3 hours, need to have a draft done by then; will revise and send in by MN tonight, after teaching.

My motto is, "One should always be able to write a serviceable abstract in a day, or you don't have your research plan in hand."

We'll see....

Done and in. It may not get accepted since they have a sort-of ryle about only presenting every other year, but at least I put it in.

If you can't not do something, you might just have to do it....

Gotsta try to make real progress on September Chapter today.

I haven't made very good progress this week so far due to other somewhat uncontrollable interferences.
Definitely trying to get back to work today.

Got Ppt in good-enough shape to send to some friend-readers who can comment on length, usefulness, and so on.

Back to the article now...and maybe go through some of the things that showed up when doing the abstract, to be sure they're filed and easy to find if it does get accepted.
