Got an email from the journal about #1 today which caused brief panic that they'd decided to desk reject it fast, but it was just an auto-email to say it had been assigned an action editor.

In the meantime we got an acceptance of another paper that all my grad students are on-- not a top journal but still nice.

Today was a round of revisions on #6. Getting writing out of this grad student is still like pulling teeth, but we are making progress. Hope to get this out to our collaborators for comment soon and then finally submit it.

That's probably it for writing this week, as I have an online conference starting tomorrow.

1. Big collaborative paper: final round of revisions and finally submit the sucker
2. Grad student #2's R&R #2 revisions (submitted)
3. Recently graduated student's R&R revisions (waiting for final 2 co-authors to comment, revisions due to journal 9/27)
4. Get recently graduated student's other paper submitted (bug co-authors to get us their comments)
5. Get grad student #1's R&R resubmitted (in her writing plan-- keep following up with her on progress)
6. Get CSS paper submitted (another round of revisions done-- hopefully one more than off to other co-authors)
7. Start new paper with favorite collaborator and her student
8. Comments on other collaborator's R&R
9. Comments on other-other collaborator's paper

Just September Chapter today, since I fucked up and missed my conference presentation.

Oh no! This is my recurring nightmare come to life, especially as I have a virtual conference talk Friday and feel paranoid I'll get the time zone wrong (even though I've double checked and no I haven't). . .

Just September Chapter today, since I fucked up and missed my conference presentation.

Good progress today, it's now presentable and I added 400 more words. Gonna have to convert citations to the right edition and put the other references in the right style soon. Next, I guess?

It's hardly my best work, but not bad under the circumstances!

I missed a presentation once because I was stuck in France and the conference was in the US....(I called, of course).

Got back the next day and discovered they had found a cancellation slot that worked "well enough" for thematic continuity so I could give the paper after all.

I was both impressed and grateful.

Congrats, puget!

I got an acceptance tonight on the special issue manuscript after one revision, so I am about to celebrate!
Yesterday I led the annual editorial board meeting for the journal I edit, and tomorrow I am leading a webinar to train future discussants for an organization. I have to work on a conference presentation that is due 10/1 - at least the manuscript was submitted on time so I have something to work with because my coauthor just had a baby and is not available before we present.

I have my research award materials ready to submit at the end of the week, and I am so pumped because I got the acceptance tonight. I am going to wait until Friday before I submit because I have a good feeling about the other R&R under review. Maybe it will get a good decision too!

Congrats, Puget and darkstarrynight!

Gonna work on the citations for September Chapter today.

Just found out I might have someone interested in talking about the book the Ppt is supposed to grow into.

I think it will be next week, so I want to have at least an in-my-head draft to talk about (I do have a developed outline, of course)

Typing in all the handwritten notes and shuffling them in place now, for the first two chapters....just in case.

It's going to be an interesting weekend, but I'm glad to have the impetus.

Halfway through converting the primary sources from the older to the newer edition. Ugh.

Got some things typed in.

More to do.

Some sadist decided that we should have a 4.5 hour IRB meeting today, so I doubt I'll get anything done.

Torture, indeed.

Will they pull out individual participants' hairs by the roots for their encore?

Yuk.

I had a very exciting meeting today with my student research assistants and the librarians here who are helping us. We can finally start with the big project next week! Let's go!!!
I submitted my research award materials today.
Next week I need to put my presentation together for the conference, or else we just present without slides.

You know what to do...

My goals:

  • Revise paper #1 (recently rejected) and get it back out
  • Make progress on paper #2 - possibly split it into two papers
  • Make progress on invited book chapter
  • Write and pitch op-ed
  • Work on data collection project - mostly this means managing my RA
  • Think about two book ideas and about drafting proposals

I also have a paper with colleague on the backburner, but doubt I'll have time to work on it (colleague is too busy to be interested and I'm not sure where to go with it).

Over the last two weeks I made substantial progress on the dataset for paper #2 (even have some positive preliminary results) and also kept chipping away at the book chapter. My RA is working away at the data collection project - which is soon going to be more of a "doing something with this data" project.

Maybe this week I'll start thinking more seriously about the book ideas that I mentioned above, although those seem to be the things that I never get around to.

I also have three fresh things on my plate for October:

  • Get rejected paper back out - hopefully next week
  • Start new project with colleague
  • Make revisions for small journal/newsletter article

mamselle

Type in all the rest of the intro notes
Edit/boil down to something like an Intro chapter

Tomorrow:
Ditto the Chapt. 1 notes, type 'em in
Edit, distill, get a chapter-shaped thing going.

Then read both together, see if all the pieces are in the right places
Then boil down, distill again.
Add spices, make a tangy tomato-sauce like 1-2 series that reads well and is accurate.
