Bari Weiss is a moron who has spent inordinate amounts of time trying to cancel people herself (and now pretends she didn't). The NYT editorial board is overwhelmingly right-leaning. She's a snowflake if ever I've seen one.
I know it's a genus.

Clearly a lot of people with terrible views (in my opinion) are associated with this, but so is Nadine Strossen, who - unless she's gone off the deep end lately - is pretty fabulous (in my opinion).

The ACLU used to be pretty fabulous.
That's not even wrong!

The good news is that UA now has a philosophy dept

Well, that would be entirely consistent with what they've said so far about their intended mission.
The Spirit himself bears witness that we are the children of God.  And if children, heirs of God, and co-heirs with Christ, if we suffer with him that we may also be glorified together.
For I consider that the sufferings of the present time do not compare with the glory that will be revealed in us.

She is also someone who has tried to cancel people who she disagrees with, making her a weird person for supposed proponents of free speech to line up behind: https://theintercept.com/2018/03/08/the-nyts-bari-weiss-falsely-denies-her-years-of-attacks-on-the-academic-freedom-of-arab-scholars-who-criticize-israel

She sounds like a typical hatemonger who is typically hurt and amazed when she gets the hate thrown back at her.

Really, this is just what gets me about these (generally these days) conservative "commentators" who spew the bile.   What do they expect?
Come, fill the Cup, and in the fire of Spring
Your Winter-garment of Repentance fling:
The Bird of Time has but a little way
To flutter--and the Bird is on the Wing.

Hah. Right. Whereas the thoughtful commentary from the left is stuff like 'Republican candidate for Governor, Trump, so-and-so was, Trump, able to get out the massive white racist vote, Trump,  while making it look like, Trump, there was some issue with, Trump, concerned parents.

Well, I guess Bari, taking sides about the Middle East, is going to get people aroused. No way that ever changes, over the last thirty plus years.

Parasaurolophus

She tried to get people fired for disagreeing with her. Is that not "cancel culture"?
I know it's a genus.

I'm not really familiar with all of this. If you're referring to the Columbia Unbecoming movie, etc. she certainly is a live wire. She was around 20 years old at the time. Anyway, after a brief glance at the story I am suitably outraged. Can't we get Merrick Garland to send the FBI after her?

Sun_Worshiper

Mahagonny is all for cancel culture when it is someone he doesn't like, such as NHJ. And when the canceler is one of his heroes (BW) it is nbd. Almost like he doesn't actually have any principles...

20 years ago I said some ill-informed things about feminism. I was wrong, and today identify as a feminist. It's not so hard to disavow mistakes from long ago.

Well, I guess for some people, hate is a principle.

NHJ was never canceled. What did happen to her was one of her claims from the 1619 project came under scrutiny and was challenged well enough that even her cheerleading NYT published a correction-that-wasn't-a-correction-just-a-clarification, and her loyal fans are no doubt still sore about that, even if they don't say so. All that has happened to NHJ is she has exposed her ideas through self-promotion and they have come under scrutiny by other historians, which is how it's supposed to work.
If someone comes along and is declared, loudly enough, that they are the ultimate virtuoso violinist, then people will compare their work to people like Hilary Hahn or Pinchas Zukerman. If they turn out to be nothing like these people, in the view of esteemed judges, that comes out. That's called 'stepping into the arena.'

The ultimate in passive aggression.
