Bib. done, footnotes nearly cleaned up.

Have to pull two translations from another paper done longer ago (do NOT feel like re-doing them, although I could).

Probable send-out to friendly readers by noon tomorrow?

The mini-article squib is done and has been sent to two pairs of friendly editorial eyes before submitting...

Back to the previous works-in-progress.

After lunch.

January Goals

  • Finalize revision with two colleagues for recent rejection
  • Finalize revision with colleague and student for rejection from Fall
  • Continue working on long-term project with students
  • Submit conference proposal due early January

filologos

Conference paper:

  • Present it!

Dissertation:

  • Prospectus: update for distribution
  • Chapter 1: begin revising
  • Chapter 2:

    • write 3,000 words for 9,500 total
    • begin incorporating conference paper

One goal checked off -- an intentionally low bar. I just added 3,000 words to my dissertation by pressing CTRL+C and CTRL+V! (Which I'm not counting toward the January writing goal, though I'm tempted . . .) And I've made the appropriate changes to quotations and citations. Now I shouldn't need to refer to my conference paper or handout as I revise and expand.

I don't often post on this thread, but I wanted to tell people I just submitted a letter-of-intent (the second of three stages of this specific grant application I've undertaken) that took two months and six people to put together. (It might be "only" a letter, but there ain't no "only" about it. Word limits of 500 or 1500 require a level of work I underestimate every single time.)

Whew!

Here's hoping we're invited to submit part 3.

Oof! Well done!

More sectioning today.

I wrote a few hundred for the more interesting section and 100 for the boring, then discovered that the boring topic also exists under a few other names. That's opened up a vast world of literature that is not boring, including an untranslated but quite important 18th-century treatise I might like to translate (as if I needed another project).

So I've spent the rest of my time reading. I'm now optimistic that I can finish both sections in a few days.
I know it's a genus.

Bien fait! Allez-y!

I've sent out the mini-article for a few folks to read and am starting back on the longer one I dropped briefly...might just cut out the longer section that seems to be bogging it down, just to finish it and get it out.

Curses: my translation gold mine was mined in July 2021. Oh well.

Today, more sectioning: I'll try to pull one of the two I've been working on into a state nearing completion. My time today may be limited, however.
I know it's a genus.

Don't cha hate it when someone does that book/article/translation you were planning to do, behind your back!?

Scoops should be for ice-cream, or journalism, not academic work.

Humpf.

Alas and alackaday! But I wrote to a friendly acquaintance who's in charge of book reviews for a specialist journal to ask if they wanted a review. That way, I can get my mitts on a review copy instead of paying a million billion dollars. And maybe it sucks and will need a better translation someday?

I managed to read two articles and write about 1000 words. The boring section will be done in a day or two!

Book review secured.

Today, I'll come as close to finishing Boring Section as I can.

I've been struggling to get back into productivity mode this week. Ugg.

The Future

It was a struggle for me to get back to the research/writing as well, but what helped was doing one small thing at a time and finishing it - even if just a sentence.  :)  Best of Luck, rota, and Happy New Year!

Article, abstract, word counts and cover letter done.

Sent to an eagle-eyed friend for one last go-over, will send it out later this afternoon.

No teaching until 6:30 PM so I have time to get back to the other article and Ppt now.
