Gonna brag a little here. I got the reader reports back for a book manuscript I submitted in July. One reader said straight up "accept," without revisions. Now that's an ego-boost!

The second said "accept with revisions," but it's clear the reviewer is an expert on my topic from whom I actually have a lot to learn. So that ain't too bad either!

This is amazing! Congrats! I have been sluggish on research-related activities mainly because I had to get my courses ready for the semester. I will hopefully get back to research and writing activities soon. I did, however, receive the copyedited version of one of my accepted manuscripts today, and made some minor changes. I sent that back to the editor today also, so I will count it as an activity!

Woo-hoo!

And to Para, extra tickles to the hatchling, who must have been behaving at least somewhat well for the progress that has been made recently to be possible.

At least...somewhat?

I don't think I can finish it today, but I'll do what I can.

Just finished. On to the next one.

Thanks! He always behaves, it's just a question of how long he naps (which is always on me). =)

Oh, it later occurred to me--can hatchlings experience tickles through all those scales?

(Or do they take awhile to harden, first?)

Anyway...

I quick-fixed the abstract, so that's been sorted (no word back yet, but they're usually looking to fill sessions so I think I'm safe).

a. Theory ppts for students to go over in their lessons so Friday's class will be coherent and well-paced--I count these as research because at some point I expect to put them all together and make a teaching instrument from them, whether online or on-paper, or...who knows, these days!?

b. Article wants to be done in two weeks (it told me so.) So that's the other thing.

Teach at 4.30, Folk dance at 7.30, so this is the time.

NOW.

January tasks:

  • Finalize and submit book chapter draft - due January 31
  • Submit paper #1
  • Submit paper #2
  • Work with co-author to figure out framework for paper #3 and, if we can agree, outline and begin drafting
  • Get my RAs back to work on two projects that will, I hope, become books; and on my end, make some progress on developing/drafting book proposals

Stretch goals for January:

  • IRB for ongoing project
  • Explore literature on topic I've become interested in to see if/how I can make a meaningful contribution
  • Deal with any rejections/R&Rs that come my way

Paper #2 has been submitted.

Puget

  • CPS R&R- draft cover letter with co-authors, do actual R'ring when they respond- still waiting on them
  • MA student #1's R&R- get her feedback on cover letter- need to do this tonight or tomorrow!
  • PhD student 1 & 2's R&R- feedback on drafts as they work on revisions- they are making good progress, new analyses done
  • Final steps for grant due 2/5: update biosketch, update budget, proof and finalize refs, consortium docs
  • PhD student 3's 1st year proposal-- keep working with her on drafts- 1 round down, on to next round
  • MA student 2's thesis proposal-- keep working with him on drafts- 1 round down
  • Reviewing: fellowship, DPP-1, DPP-2, CPR

Making a start on a new section today.

Read four articles, did a tiny bit of writing. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but for today the section's on schedule.

They're ticklish through and through.

Tee-hee.

Ppts for students nearly done, enough I could test-drive two pages on the upcoming student.

A quick glance and a couple of edits on the article, so I'm back into it.

Dinnner.

Dancing.

Bed.

(I have a meeting with my writing accountability person tomorrow at 10, this is the first time in awhile I could talk about two things submitted since our last meeting. More to do, and it feels on track. Nice change!)

I completed an IRB review and finished reading the book On Revision today.

Parasaurolophus

I'll try to get some writing on this section done today. It'd be nice to finish it tomorrow, though that seems over-ambitious right now.

    • PhD student 1 & 2's R&R- feedback on drafts as they work on revisions- they are making good progress, new analyses done
    • Final steps for grant due 2/5: update biosketch, update budget, proof and finalize refs, consortium docs

Read three articles, wrote 700 words.

Good consultation with my writing person.

More work on the article, got another paragraph wrestled to the ground--for the moment, anyway!

Teaching now.

I would have liked to finish the section today, but various constraints make it seem unlikely.
