I met with one of my student research assistants on the big project today. Hu asked to meet in person to pick up materials, so I went to campus. Thirty minutes prior to the meeting, hu emailed that they were exposed to Covid because they work with a lot of undergraduate students who were returning and tested positive, so we moved to a virtual meeting. We made some plans to continue working on the project in the near future, so that is good.

I've gotten a bit more done on mining previous presentations for a slide here or there that might feed forward to the presentation whose abstract is due the 15th.

Sometimes I have to see the slides before me to write about them.

Seems like this is one of those times....

On to other work, now.

I'll get as close to finishing this section as I can.

I read an article and wrote 1500 words and finished it. The book is now 50% done! Hurray!

Unfortunately, that leaves just three and a half months for the other half. I started on a new section composed of new material to me; read two more articles, wrote a tiny tiny bit.
I know it's a genus.

No time to do anything today, so I'll just read a little now, while I can.

Gonna brag a little here. I got the reader reports back for a book manuscript I submitted in July. One reader said straight up "accept," without revisions. Now that's an ego-boost!

The second said "accept with revisions," but it's clear the reviewer is an expert on my topic from whom I actually have a lot to learn. So that ain't too bad either!

Woot! (Is that how it's pronounced?)

Wow, that's fantastic! Congratulations!

Gonna do a spot of writing and a pile of reading so that I can finish this section by the end of Monday.

Read a couple, wrote a couple hundred. That wasn't quite the 'pile' I had in mind, but what can you do? It takes the time it takes.

Abstract done and in.

Next up....um....back to the medieval article.

After a good amount of relaxation during the holidays work is piling up, and I'm finally starting to feel motivated again.

Goals for the week of Jan 16:

1. Finish final section of book chapter revisions.
2. Complete copy edits on forthcoming article.
3. Continue to draft new article.
4. Begin peer review request.
5. Read, read, and read some more (so many books).

If I can finish the reading today, I can finish the writing tomorrow. Dunno if I can finish the reading today, though.

Blah, only read two.

I don't think I can finish it today, but I'll do what I can.

Three hours before I have to teach.

Lunch to inhale and at least two pages of article to smooth out.

Ready, set...go!
