Goals for the week of Feb 14:

1. Continue work on new journal article (which is progressing nicely).
2. Read and write up thoughts one main primary source book for new book chapter.
3. Read and write up thoughts on one new primary source added to other chapter in revision.
4. Apply for every fitting job for fall.

Last week went well except for task 3., and I've enjoyed spending this weekend re-reading really important foundational texts for my work. My goals for this coming week, however, are basically the same, but building upon last week's progress.

Goals for the week of Feb 20:

1. Continue work on new journal article (tightening argument/adding secondary resources).
2. Read and write up thoughts on another primary source text for book 2 chapter.
3. Read and write up thoughts on one new primary source for book 1 chapter revisions.
4. Continue applying to every fitting job.

Have a productive week!

Hmm. I'll see what I can do for this section today. I also have a bit of editorial work to complete.

Oops, didn't check back in yesterday.

Today: buckling in and getting this section as close to done as I can.

Didn't get there--things got in the way, and little was accomplished, just a couple hundred words and an article read. Sigh. Tomorrow, then.
I know it's a genus.

All but 2 students off this week on school vacation, so I'm going to dig in.

Mid-month-ish (2/3? 3/4?)  assessment:

1. Definite interest from the editor in article due for 8/1.
2. 4/29 paper started, and Ppt design in hand (les couleurs sont tout!).
3. 3/28 invited Ppt already done earlier, a few tweaks to do.
4. Want to get final draft of medieval piece done and in this week (having said so the past 2 weeks I mean it...)

The open window is now.

Gonna try to finish today.

800 words this morning. So close to finishing (a very rough draft of) this chapter.

OK, back on track!!

Got a whole section revised and in much better shape. (Whew, I was getting worried, there...)

Next section to go. Might be tomorrow....after dinner I might be too tuckered to take on more.

Gonna try to finish today.

Wrote about 1500 and finished.

The next two sections will have to be on a compressed timeline though. Ugh.
I know it's a genus.

Getting there!

This month, I am determined to finish revising and resubmitting an article that due to the pandemic and lack of library access has been lingering for-bloody-ever.

- incorporate material from book 1
- incorporate material from book 2
- incorporate material from article 1
- revisit and smooth entire narrative
- resubmit

I have errands to run first, but have three things to do today:

1. Add in the transition phrases I thought up (and emailed to myself) as I drifted off to sleep last night for the August article (which I'm realizing I might be able to finish up early and get it off my plate...it's a revision with text to be added from a later version that's already written, so...dithering).

2. Do what's needed to finish up the proposal-to-myself on online materials to be posted and linked up, so I can consult with my IT person and figure out next steps

3. Get the next section of the medieval article done.

There's a 4:30 student to reckon with, and folk dance after that, so all of this has to happen in the next few hours.

Yesterday my friend and I decided to withdraw our article from the journal who has ignored it for over three months. There was no way to do this in the portal, so hu emailed the editor who ignored my emails, and copied both the portal help email and the publisher of the journal. We got a response minutes later from the editor who wrote they would "withdrawal" it. Ok...so we submitted to another journal with similar aims and scope and feel a lot better about it. Hopefully this will be a more smooth process.

I need to get back to the rejected manuscript revisions but have been really busy with journal editor work. I am not thrilled with what the copyeditors are doing to our manuscripts so I just had to ask our managing editor to connect with the copyediting company and address some concerns.

In a few minutes I am participating in a recorded "guest speaker" conversation with a colleague at another institution whose class is using my book for a text. That should be fun! The students submitted questions in advance and they are very thoughtful.

My coeditor for the journal submitted a conference proposal on our behalf yesterday for later this year.

Starting a new section today.
I know it's a genus.

Now that I have reached the integrating and checking the writing part, I begin slogging through my own writing, making sure everything is in the right place and flows well, which is very weird for a manuscript that had been in R&R status for so long due to pandemic restrictions.

I am also reminded of why I put this stage in my checklist: years ago, a snarky blind reviewer who disliked my style wrote that I should have someone who was a native English speaker check my work (and I'm a native English speaker).
