Finishing the section, writing a report.

Got three conference proposals accepted, two for next month and one for summer! Yesterday the participant I was to interview for the summer presentation was a no-show and has not responded to reschedule, so I hope they are okay. Yesterday in reviewing potential textbooks for a new course I teach this summer, I realize there may be a need for a book on the topic, so I contacted the managing editor I work with at the journal I coedit to see what hu thought. Hu suggested I put together a book prospectus to be considered this year with a publication date of 2026. That gives me some time to think about it and bring on other potential coauthors or coeditors, though I am not sure I planned on working on another book after my first one.

The shorter article-that-was-forwarded-for-consideration-in-the-main-journal has reached the editor, who has confirmed they'd like me to re-format for their longer limits, including the omitted/newer material, and submit by their August deadline.

First really serious nibble I've seen in awhile.

Decent timing, a very decent journal, and an odd feeling of, "OK, it had to happen sometime," and "YEAAAAA!!!!! It did!"

Now, of course, there will be the work to do.

Still.

Done both. Also started working on my panel proposal.

I should try to hammer out a draft abstract for my panel contribution today. It would be easier if I'd written the paper, but hey.

I always write the abstract first, then use it as the armature for the paper.

Of course, my data come from sources between 800-300 years old, so I'm unlikely to get many last-minute changes....

Hehe, yeah, it's common in some parts of the field, but not mine. In this case, my materials are a few orders of magnitude older, but I had to figure out what the hell I wanted to say about them. It's hard to describe your argument before you know what it is! =p

650 words of abstract done, gonna have to cut a bit tomorrow. Will also have to write up the panel rationale.

Gonna take a stab at the panel rationale today.

Done, I think, and finished my abstract, too. All told, about 1000 words written today. I'll have a quick look tomorrow and send it all back to my panelists for their approval.

Goals for the week of Feb 14:

1. Continue work on new journal article (which is progressing nicely).
2. Read and write up thoughts one main primary source book for new book chapter.
3. Read and write up thoughts on one new primary source added to other chapter in revision.
4. Apply for every fitting job for fall.

Finishing the panel proposal and sending it to me panelists, and starting on my next book section.

Finished the proposal adn sent it (I'll submit it at the end of the month), wrote 200ish words, and read 3.25 articles. Not bad!

I'm especially pleased about the proposal, though. It took less time than I feared, and it looks really fantastic. Plus, it's gonna set me up for books 2 and 3 (one edited, one single-authored), which I plan on putting out at about the same time. It's a bit of a crackpot passion project, but man, I think it's gonna make some ripples (if only because everyone will think it's both unexpected and kinda cool, even if they don't think there's much more to say on the subject afterwards).

Got a mini-brainstorm about one paragraph, did that, and a bit more.

Getting there.

Gah, I forgot to update last night. It wasn't a great day: I wrote a few hundred, only read two.

Gotta do more today. I was hoping to finish it today, but that's not gonna happen. Gotta set myself up to finish tomorrow, though.
