Congrats!!

Just finished another paragraph.

Slog, slogg......through the bog!

OK, I have a very messy, still-needs-an-editorial-comb-out, shaggy dog of an article, but all the pieces are where they belong, until they have to come out.

It's maybe two pages too long in the text, and the notes can come down another page or two, as well, and there are a buncha yellow-and-green splotches for the citations and fact-checking that need to be finalized--but it's closer to done than it's ever been before, and I'm relieved to be able to say that.

OK, rake, fork, flea comb, let's go....

Today I finish this section.

Did it, and wrote my abstract/proposal for another collection. I'm super-excited by it! (Hopefully they are too.)
I know it's a genus.

Monthly report:

It's crunch time for finishing the book. 13 more sections to go. So, in March:

  • Write 8-10 sections.
  • Write and submit chapter abstract for a fun CFP I saw.

Wrote just 6 sections, unfortunately. Still, I'm now 86% done. And I also did some refereeing for journals and the REB, so there's that.
I know it's a genus.

The month of March in review...(based on February's work: when you've got a good list, don't waste it!)

1. Two paragraphs to go on the article-in-process; start overall edit and a revision to finish it off. Send to friendly-readers, do a final revision, and submit. Just done with full-messy-finished version; aiming for distillation and send-out shortly.

2. Did enough more on the 3/28 Ppt updates (quick and easy) that it's done; might tweak once more before giving it, but it's essentially finished. To be given Monday PM upcoming.

3.  Started the Ppt for the 4/29 talk; it combines previous work from two different strands of resources (verbal and visual), have to blend and explicate.  More to do, now! (Did locate online resources needed, yesterday.)

4. Invited to do a book review by the group for which I did an earlier blog-post, due July 1. Started a file on that, got the book, now, to start reading. Not due until June, 1-3 have priority.

5. The shorter version of an article based on the above invited blog-post was suggested in January and submitted in Feb. for a different group's quarterly;
it was bumped up for consideration for the annual (better) journal: re-doing to meet greater length and more precise submission standards, due Aug 1.
Not due 'til later, have done some desultory work here and there, lining up resources.

6. Finish the plan (started) to work with an IT support person to post the Ppt, whether as a podcast, teaching series, online course, or some combination
of those. I want to post it and have it be seen...have been taking notes on those I've attended or watched online for ideas. Keep going.
IT person has ghosted, looking for another. Have more ideas about options from other channels, now.

7. The book chapters tied to the above have been bumped down due to two more recent deadlines upcoming; still need to be done.
    a. Finish typing in all the hand-written analysis from readings for Intro and Chpt 1, the two chapters I'll submit on query
    b. Go through Intro and Chpt 1, put in order
    c. Send out to friendly readers for input, revise, and re-revise again.
    d. Do query letter; send chapters to #1 choice, see what happens.
    e. (Probably) Repeat, rinse, repeat until I get a bite (hopefully earlier on the list rather than later)
Other stuff has superceded these, but they will be back to the top by August.

It's interesting to see how things developed (and some grew) over the space of a month's work. This is more precise than I've been able to be in awhile; I  find it encouraging for an unattached/independent scholar in the humanities, although it may seem like small potatoes in the wider academic universe.

Still moving along. Worried the article is going on and on, but it has a home, so it's a wanted child, not an orphan, with a timely completion still worth aiming for.

Also did two short music Ppts which didn't take long, helped hone some mad online skills for more things later.

Excelsior (onwards and upwards)....again, for April.
