Practicing now, then lunch.

Then three hours' blissful writing/editing and (maybe, really) finishing up this first-drafty-draft pass at a starter loaf to be kneaded and punched down.

All mixed metaphors intentional.

Two more paragraphs fixed, and bearing down hard.

Teaching now.

Much more reading to be done today.

Didn't manage 'much', bur I did read 2.33 articles for the section (including a monstrously long and difficult one), wrote about 400 words, and read a paper I stupidly agreed to referee (it was pretty good).

I've missed this board! I was at a conference out of state last week so I was away from my computer much of the time. I had a poster and a presentation on Friday that went well, and connected with a lot of wonderful people in my niche area, which draws scholars from different fields. My spouse came along since it was a new city for them, attended a panel, and came to the social with me which was nice. We had lunch with colleagues from the institution that hosted the conference on our way out of that city, and then spent the weekend with one of my friends (who was also at the conference) in another city in the same state. Now that I am back, I need to return to my goals!

The friend I stayed with is working with me on the "fun" piece in my stretch goals, so we finally talked about it briefly and that may not get going until next month when a conference proposal deadline approaches. My rejected paper with a student and colleague will hopefully get wrapped up soon as the student asked us to meet next week to finalize it, which is awesome. I reserved equipment next week to continue working on my long-term project tied to my sabbatical next semester also.

More on the section today. I'd like to read 2-3 more and write a few hundred more.

OK, after yesterday, may just have a bit more to get through to get everything in the place it goes pre-distillation.

Student at 5.

Here's hoping.

M.

Yea, more done, and one of the harder ones nearly disentangled from its neighbors.

Student shortly.

The light at the end of the tunnel is the lamp of the horse-and-buggy that will pick me up at the end of this thing...

Read 4, of which only 3 are useable.

More writing, more reading. Gotta be in position to finish tomorrow.

Got a bit more done, then had to attend to a time-necessary task that took two hours instead of 15 min. to fix.

Student 1, then student 2, now dinner....have a feeling it's going to be done tomorrow instead of today.

Hmmmmmm.....

Wrote about 500, read 3.5 (only .5 left for the section). I should be able to finish tomorrow.

March Goals

  • Finalize rejected manuscript with colleague and student to submit to target journal
  • Keep working on long-term project with student research assistants
  • Complete review of manuscript for journal
  • Make progress on conference presentation and manuscript for new study recently completed with colleague and former student

Stretch Goals

  • Work on "fun" commentary piece with colleague, consider for conference proposal due in April
  • Possibly work on conference proposal due in April for long-term project
  • Start on new project with superstar research team (was invited to join)

Where has this month gone?
I worked with my friend to submit our manuscript yesterday to a third journal, which got an overnight desk reject. I fixed it up and sent it to the fourth journal on our list. I also got an email from two people I met at last week's conference asking me to join a new research project. I have such a hard time saying no. I also am more knowledgeable about this topic than they are, and feel obligated to join to make sure things are "done right" in reference to the topic, which is often perceived differently than "how things are."
Next week, our team will finalize the rejected manuscript or at least make a plan to get it done before April is over. I am hoping to get reviews back any day now on a revision and an initial manuscript submission. I also having been talking more with people about my potential book proposal that I plan to submit for consideration after the summer. That is looking more plausible than it did initially.

Editing to add we got our copyedited book chapter back for the book coming out this Fall. We barely had any inquiries or changes, and hope to get that back in before the week is over.

mamselle

Yes, I agree.

March marched through too fast.

Putting in extra time today to make up for yesterday, and to try to finish this by month's end (or at least the end of this week).

Vrroooom, vroom....put-put-put....

Ugh, yes.

Today I finish this section.

This morning, however, I got an email confirming that August Chapter (last August) will be included in the collection, and asking for only minor edits. Not bad, considering I'm not an expert on the subject, just an interested party!
