Just wanted to send my condolences.

Thank you. I'm sorry to blub on about it so, it's just like a huge breakup. Ugh.
I know it's a genus.

mamselle

Totally understandable.

If it weren't for the fact there's a hatchling involved, I'd have kept the cat and ditched the partner, frankly.

Goals for the first second week of March:

1. Continue with steady work on the journal article (this is developing nicely).
2. Read and write notes on the rest of my potential primary sources for book 2 chapter (I'm making decent progress here).
3. Work through very long potential primary source addition for book 1 chapter revisions (I keep neglecting this project).

I have the same goals for this week. Things are progressing, just not as quickly I'd like. I do seem to always have one project that gets pushed to the side.

But, I'm feeling a bit of job market pressure and am coming to the end of my postdoc, so I need to use that as momentum on my research.

Have a nice week everyone!

March Goals

  • Finalize rejected manuscript with colleague and student to submit to target journal
  • Keep working on long-term project with student research assistants
  • Complete review of manuscript for journal
  • Make progress on conference presentation and manuscript for new study recently completed with colleague and former student

Stretch Goals

  • Work on "fun" commentary piece with colleague, consider for conference proposal due in April
  • Possibly work on conference proposal due in April for long-term project
  • Start on new project with superstar research team (was invited to join)

Today I did set up some documents for the conference presentation/manuscript for recently completed study and also did automatic transcripts via Office 365 online to get us started, though we will need to clean them up.

Oooh I forgot to check in since the first day of the month, oops! On Thursday, I finished my manuscript review. Over the weekend, I furiously worked with my coeditor on a few pieces for our forthcoming issue. I also supported several authors who submitted. On Friday I met virtually with a prospective doctoral student who was interested in my research. I also found out in two emails, one last week and one today, that my book will be translated into Japanese! The professor in Japan who has been working on this secured translation rights from my publisher and a grant from the Japanese government to make this possible! Today I completed 10 proposal reviews for a conference this Fall.

mamselle

Wow, you have been busy!!

I have started the boil-down process and have distilled out one page of precious wisdom from the 30-page mess so far. Just 10 more to go.

And just in time to start consolidating work on the Ppt, to be given at the end of April.

Faster than thundering turtles, I be...

Gotta do a spot of conference refereeing today, and try to work through more of the dreadful boring crap.

Did the refereeing, wrote a few hundred, managed an article and a half. I'm behind on my weekly quota, but, well.

M.

Yeah... ordinarily, I'd probably choose that route, too. But the partner's feelings towards the cat--just this one--changed as a result of the pregnancy. Which is weird, but also apparently quite common.

I hope you get to see your kittyfriendmuse quite soon.

Happily, they don't mind me coming over any time. But I can't quite bear it yet, and he probably needs time to fully adjust to his new environs.

Today:

  • Prep for guest lecture tomorrow.
  • Get as close to done with this infernal section as I can.
I know it's a genus.

mamselle

Continued good thoughts kitty-wise.

No student today, nothing until folk dance at 7:30.

I wonder how much I can get done today? All? Most? A good deal?

Hoping...

Today I give the guest lecture, and try to finish the section (but I'm sure I won't make it).

Got a fair bit done yesterday, hoping for more today. Getting three pages boiled out would be a good day's work.

Did a 1-page drawn outline, figured out where the redundancies/cross-relations are, and where the cadences can go.

It's getting an actual shape.

I'm about 45 minutes from done the section.

Finishing that section and starting the next. I've wasted enough time already this morning!

The last two days were more about teaching, though I did do some journal editor things. I also was further encouraged to work on a book proposal to be considered this Fall. I want to solo-author the book but have students submit case studies that could be examples for the book. Does anyone know how that works (since it would be authored by me but with brief contributions by others)? I do not want it to be an edited book (for various reasons).

Today, I worked on the rejected manuscript more but my colleagues have stalled so it is moving along very sluggishly.
